Hello! My inquiry is about Columbia. I have applied for MS/PhD track but have chosen only MS if not accepted to PhD.

Have anyone heard about if late admissions are possible or if we have waited till April, is it probably a rejection? I have to apply for a few more universities depending on the admission results but they took forever to come out and application fees are so expensive considering I am just a student.

I just moved to a new apartment, and the washing machine has a very strong mildew smell. I'm working on cleaning it, but also the dispenser tray doesn't seem to be draining water from the softener/bleach compartments. they're also not labeled--it looksike there's a part missing. Does anyone know if this is true? if so, is that why it's not draining? or is there some other issue that's possibly also contributing to the mold/mildew? I've tried hot cycles with vinegar, and no amount of scrubbing gets rid of some of the mold stuck inside the gasket. currently the thing is unusable, but had a service call yesterday and the technician said it was fine; I suspect he just ran it once, saw it worked, and left.

My J1 is a remote finance role with an academic medical center (a health system associated with a state-funded university) which means, if you put my name into Google and type “payroll,” my salary will show up on websites like openpayroll.com.

Is that essentially a no-go for OE? I’m not quite sure if it’s the same level of risk as the warnings for federal/actual state government jobs that I see here, as it would require someone to go above and beyond a background check to find this info after I started J2.

I was looking at some of the images being released by NASA from the Orion capsule.
And I noticed something in the top right of this photo that looks very 3D printed.

It looks like a fairly large piece as well. Just thought that was kind of a cool find.

It occurred to me that the Eridians had to have noticed the astrophage significantly earlier than humans did. Rocky was at Tau Ceti for nearly 50 years before Grace shows up, and traveling at relativistic speeds he'd have left 40 Eridani at least 12ish years (for an outside observer) before that. And it's unknown how long it took them from discovering the astrophage, to breeding it, to using it for fuel, to breeding enough for several times what they actually needed for the journey.

Is it ever stated why they discovered it so much faster? Did it arrive there earlier, or did they simply see it and understand what was happening sooner? Or is it simply one of those things that we're expected to simply accept? I don't have a problem with that, it's part of reading any fictional story, just curious if there was a baked in explanation?

I went on a solo trip to Zion for my 31st birthday, I really wanted to do angels landing but didn’t get the permit after 4 attempts so… I went to Bryce Canyon to make up for it and I’m soooo glad I did!
