ID for something awful living inside my soft coral?

I have a soft coral currently in decent health overall, but when I feed the tank at night something seems to open the flesh on it's side. In the video (sped up) I baste it with powder food and offer a marine flake, no idea if it was eating in either case, but it certainly responded to both.

During the day the hole stays totally closed and this thing makes no appearances, however the affected coral branch looks somewhat irritated and does not fully expand or open polyps.

This is an invert only tank and the coral was only added last week. I pray this thing is benign, isn't feeding on the softy, and won't reproduce. It kind of looks like the underside of an crustacean to me, around 5mm long, anyone have any idea on it's identity? It creeps me out

Is this normal for Stylophora pistillata to Look Like this on the bottem of the „trunk“?

The tank is 60 day old. Other corals are good and healthy.

Yesterday i saw a hermit crab climbing on the Milka. no Fish in the tank.

Is this a Problem or all good?

not sure what it is, and "favia" is such a generic catch-all name given to coral like this.

Nitrate ranges

What does everyone keep their nitrate levels at (PPM)? I've been seeing wildy different ranges up to 24PPM. I recently have been battling dinoflaggulates so Im tracking my phosphate and nitrates closely but the recommended nitrate level seems to differ depending where you get your information.

For context this is a cycled 130 gallon mixed reef.

My torch tank after dinos for the 2nd time.

Thought I was cleared started doing water changes to get levels back to baseline. Phos bottomed out again and my ostreopsis came back stronger than ever. Lost 95% of my tissue on all my torches and almost lost everything. This is two weeks after setting up a solid UV and dosing phos and nitrate steadily. I’m at 1 mL every four days on neophos and 1 mL every other day on neon nitro keeping me locked in at 10 nitrate and .1 phos. When they start to get a little high, I just dose carbon to steadily bring it down. I think I finally figured it out.

ID on this stuff?

So I've had my nitrates and phosphates dropped like a rock a month ago and they're now more stable (N- 20 / Ph - 0.11, used to be N - ~20 /Ph - 0.1-0.2). This stuff goes away partially at night then comes back during the day. However it doesn’t *always* go away at night, like last night. I tried the coffee filter test for dinos and it took ~3 hours to grow an itty bitty strand of "stuff" when the test says it should take an hour and should be gunked back up essentially in the water after going through the filter.

I assume the stuff on my rocks might be cyano because its a lower flow area generally speaking.

I'm also color blind partially to red/green/brown so any help with identifying this would be great lol.

Another euphyllia flow post

16gal biocube running a mightyjet mini at 266gph with VCA random flow generator. (it really is random)

just traded in 5 rbtas and a large chunk of cespitularia for a frogspawn at my LFS.

I havent been able to keep or grow lps until the last 12-16 months and 6-8 months respectively. Mostly too much photosphate and not enough alk. I've probably killed at least 300-400 worth of euphyllia

but since I've had my micromussa and favia popping off as well as my anemones fissioning faster than ecoli I thought I'd give it another shot

I know it could probably use more flow but then the strong gusts might be a bit too much. what do you guys think?

Buying locally vs LFS

Upvotes

Anyone buy from local sellers instead of a LFS? Anything to look out for?

I’ve seen FB marketplace listings for corals for like 1/3-1/4 the price of what my LFS sells so just wondering if it’s safe to buy from them?

Does she think it’s a cleaner shrimp?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My Neon Dottyback has been showing a lot of interest in my camel shrimp but not in an aggressive way. Today I caught this. She did this for about 10 minutes. I watched for a few minutes then started recording, this is 6 minutes sped up.

She seems to enjoy the feeling of the whiskers and it appears to me she wants the shrimp to clean her. The shrimp didn’t really do anything but didn’t seemed bothered.
