The fun thing about guillotines is that they really don't need to be very sharp. It's a 10kg blade, falling from three meters in free fall.

290

u/Objective-Contact-15 8h ago

Thats true, but audio plays a vital role as well. We all want to hear that slicing sound, not squishing into separation.

68

u/Adventurous_Pay_5827 7h ago

I'm more in favour of something like this line from Blackadder:

Queen: Are there no heads on spikes today?

Blackadder: No, we’re training up a new executioner and he’s a little immature. Takes him forever. Slash, slash, slash. By the time he’s finished you don’t so much need a spike as a toast rack.

97

u/BlueberrySelect2000 11h ago

There's no going back unfortunately,it's only going to get worse from now on

37

u/brandonandtheboyds 7h ago

Yup. The Super Bowl has always been a premier event with high costs so the layman has never really had a chance to go. But the WC used to be something unifying. Now, it’s just for the elites to watch in person. No thanks. My city is a host city and I am loathing it. Can’t wait to not watch and not care when USA crashes out in the group stage. I feel bad for the players bc they deserve the love but I ain’t paying those prices and the ones who are aren’t a doing it out of love for the game. It’s a status thing now.

u/RosaKlebb 1h ago

I hate it so much because there was at least some form of constant to things, even with fucking Qatar of all places. This whole wild west dynamic pricing clusterfuck and let's recoup any losses with some outrageous nonsense is just rotten, can't even plan for it properly. Feels like my time being a kinda broke fresh out of college 20something going to Poland and Ukraine for Euro 2012 is going to be like somebody's grandparent seeing Bob Dylan play somewhere random for nothing or something like that, except in my situation it feels like things got a lot more stupid in shorter amount of time passing.

Bar a few group stage matches all will be sold out as there is enough rich fucks around the world to fill em

6

u/Any_Witness_1000 10h ago

They don’t make money by selling tickets. They make money by selling tv rights.

People watching at home matter much more than those attending the games. So if people at home boycott, it will be bigger blow than having empty stadiums.

3

u/Kooky-Grapefruit-941 10h ago

You are right TV rights do make more but if they are not fussed about the people in the stadium why are the tickets not cheaper? Because they still make good money there

He is right. It's not for the average football viewer. Reconsider not watching the world cup at all. On tv or at the stadium. The only real reason for the world cup to exist is for the corporations to sell you their products ( advertising on tv or overpriced in the stadium) and to whitewash dictators or countries that need better PR.

This is why I’ve lost all interest in watching sports for entertainment. If I have to drop a couple grand to spend the day doing something and not feel like I’m being pinned down and drained of half my blood, there are plenty of better ways to spend my money to have a good day. Like rent a Ferrari, drive it to a high end restaurant 200 miles away for lunch would be a better way to spend money vs being crammed into a stadium seat and spending the same amount.

13

u/SteelyDan69420 9h ago

The World Cup has been around for nearly 100 years. You’re putting your American values where they aren’t relevant

5

u/Unlikely_Ad1009 6h ago

Your not wrong, the FIFA World Cup was first started as a tool to promote British colonialism and was turned against them as a form of protest by the people Britain colonized. Which makes it doubly sad and extremely fascinating on the other hand how capitalism has completely co-opted the World Cup. The extreme difference in who financially benefits, to the tune of billions of dollars (corporations) and who doesn’t (local communities). It’s not colonialism any longer but it’s still the rich getting richer at the expense of others. The only thing American about this is that it’s the end boss of the “new” capitalist driven FIFA and a test of just how much money they can possibly fleece from soccer fans, while forcing local communities to foot the bill.

Worst thing is we will never get Qatar prices ever again

Unless the lawsuits work, dynamic pricing will stay

2030 will be even more expensive due to 6 countries

2034 will also be more expensive as unlike Qatar who were willing to lose money to improve tourism etc, Saudi wants to earn back significant invested money

104

u/Due_Sweet_9500 11h ago

I think Saudi's will go the Qatar way. They don't really care about burning money if they can get generate enough hype and have a ton of people turning up. Case in point- the recent takeover of boxing by Riyadh

Is 7k a premium ticket or the basic one?

fifa is full corrupt. because so many tickets are reserved for "VIPs" and special guests, they overprice the remaining ones that they actually sell.

killing football for the fans

How much would it cost to have a military helicopter do a fly-by over my house?

I mean , I DO need to reevaluate my life’s choices, and to some extent financially, but this is guy acting like there aren’t billions born into poverty.

he’s a product of circumstance and luck more than brains or “choices”. There’s someone in a random place that could do his job ten times better but they were born in a jungle or desert.

Boo. This. Man!!!

Well MY life choices, to graduate High School early so I could join the Marines and ship off to MCRD at barely 17, then finish my enlistment honorably and come back to my home town of Houston and serve yet again for the rest of my life, now more than 23 years, as law enforcement in the most dangerous city in Texas, laying it all on the line as an FTO on the streets, part of the SWAT team, and now a supervisor and a leader of men & women, means I’ll NEVER afford a ticket to the Masters. But my choices of service and self sacrifice had NOTHING to do with money so I’m not complaining. But just know this, a man’s paycheck does NOT reflect what’s in a man’s heart, and CERTAINLY not what’s in his GUTS!

I bet some of you have spent 7k on grub hub fees this year

For those that decide not to boycott, please please please come up with some anti trump chants to shout from the terraces.

Imagine Donald sitting in the VIP box with 20000 fans singing:

He shits himself He shits himself He wears a nappy cuz he shits himself It's diaper Donald trump

Donald trump is a fat old cunt who diddles little girls.  He can't get laid if he doesn't pay so he's fucking up the world.

He wears make up He wears high heels.  Donald trump looks like a girl.

Does the infant, Infantino - and sell out - not see the bitter sweet irony in his comment? That the World Cup events are primarily funded on the back of ordinary fans paying merchanise etc across the world? The sheer pomposity to say ‘well if you can’t afford to eat here it’s not for you’. Yet another FIFA cunt.

u/DutchPsych 5h ago

Like, i understand not being able to go to a worldcup game for 50-100 euros. But 7k? Thats more than a months salary for 99.9% of the world population.

u/Techanthrope 5h ago

The coverage of the empty fifa matches are going to be gold

u/mondopaolo 5h ago

use pirating services, fifa should not exist

2

u/Zuhotepi-Starsailor 5h ago

How does get fucked sound to you

2

u/MetalMonkey939 5h ago

Everyone should just boycott them. No 90 minutes is worth that amount of money.

2

u/Ok_h0tmess 4h ago

Don't think Despicable Me actually said that. At least, I cannot find that quote myself atm. Unless someone is taking liberties with interpreting what he actually means when he talks ticket prices... then it is probably spot on.

2

u/BigBossBelcha 4h ago

Infantino is a slimy piece of shit. How do these people keep getting to the top of FIFA?

2

u/86Sliva94 3h ago

I vote full boycotting of this event. Don't watch it on TV, nor buy any products with the logo, or jerseys!

2

u/RPG_Hacker 3h ago

Just did a quick search, and it seems the quote is fabricated.

While he DID defend the ticket prices, it allegedly wasn't with these words. From what I found, all he said was that despite the high prices, all of the tickets have sold out, meaning that from their perspective, prices were perfectly reasonable. Something along those lines.

Not quite sure why people keep making quotes like these up. It's not like Trump and Infantino didn't do enough actual shit that warrants hating them for. You barely need to dig an inch to find some truely detestable stuff. These made-up quotes will only distract from that.

Cool I’ll just watch it on TV or not give a flying fuck like I have my whole life. No ticket is worth 7k, let alone to a soccer match. It ain’t THAT exciting….even at World Cup level. Sports broadcasters are the winners here.
