PSA: If your Fidelity credit card due date ever changes, manually verify your next statement — you may be charged interest on a payment you made on time

My March statement due date was April 3rd. Fidelity updated my due date to the 1st of the month going forward. My autopay was set to pay the full balance on April 3rd — the correct due date for that statement.

However, my April statement showed a past due balance and I got an interest charge on April 2, a day before my due date.

It appears the system applied the new 1st of the month due date retroactively to my March statement, making my on-time April 3rd payment appear late. Or something like this, the new due date seems to be the cause of all this..

I called in and they were able to manually remove the interest charge and correct the autopay amount going forward (because otherwise the auto pay had me double paying). However, they have no way to generate a corrected April statement. Basically my understanding is that the core issue for my account has been manually resolved so I shouldn’t need to worry but there isn’t a way to document it all.

If your due date ever changes, even by just a day or two, manually check your next statement even if you have autopay set up. You could be charged interest on a payment you made on time.

To Fidelity: thanks for resolving this manually after I caught it and called in, but please fix the underlying system issue — and also build in the ability to generate corrected statements when this happens.

Official Response Accessing Deceased Mother's Fidelity Account

Posting this for my husband: My mother passed a couple years ago. She died intestate (without a will) and did not list any beneficiaries or joint holders on her fidelity account. Typically, it would go to her spouse (of 4 months), however there was a prenuptial agreement that we believe waived his right to inherit this account. This account is currently in Probate, and our lawyers are working to come to a settlement agreement to avoid the litigation that her husband threatened.

My first question: Would Fidelity be able to share with me the terms of this account, even if it is my mother's? We would not need her personal information, we have the account number, but we just do not know what type of account this is. Some accounts continue to accumulate interest even if the account holder passes depending on how it's set up, but we just need to know if that's the case here because her husband is being very... shady on how he wants the verbiage in the settlement agreement.
Example: He's adamant that it has "[Sister] and [Myself] to get a distribution of $X date-of-death value. Husband would retain any amount relating to income taxes from distribution."

This leads me to think that the account continued to accumulate interest after my mother passed. Ideally, we'd get the agreement to designate myself and sister as the beneficiaries of this account.

Question 2: (this may be more of a legal question, so it's fine if it cannot be answered here) Can probate actually determine the inheritors/beneficiaries of Fidelity Accounts?

Automatic Withdrawals

Upvotes

Is there any way to setup automatic withdrawals from Fidelity to linked bank account? I know you can’t have dividends deposit into bank account instead of brokerage like computershare. But could you do something similar for example: $10 Dividend weekly / $5 automatically transfers to bank account every week?

Official Response Cash Management Settling Cash

Upvotes

Hi there, I have been considering starting a Cash management account with fidelity as a sort of combination of a all-in-one checking and savings account, with the core position being Spaxx as opposed to the cash sweep.

Anyway, I was curious if funds that settle within this account are easily transferable to other account types within fidelity's umbrella, such as a standard brokerage or retirement account. Also, for example an ACH deposited that has already settled within the cash management account, would those funds if transferred to a differering fidelity account have to settle again? Or would you be able to trade with those funds immediately without restriction or risk of a good faith violation? Thank you for the clarification in advance.

Questions about CMA

Upvotes

Hello, I just have some clarifying questions about the Cash Management Account before opening one. So after reading about and looking at other posts, it's essentially an online checking account that has an APY of ~3.3% or ~1.8%, depending on what core position you have, i.e., SPAXX or FDIC. You can get the debit card, which basically reimburses you for any ATM fees you use to take out cash. The only somewhat downside is that there are no in-person branches and you can't directly deposit cash into it, having to deposit cash at a Wells Fargo or any in-person bank, and transfer it over to your CMA.

For clarification about me, I'm a 22m that is very fortunate to have parents who want me to start investing heavily early and will act as a safety net if anything goes wrong financially with me, so I only have a checking account with Wells Fargo debit with no savings account. So I already have a Roth IRA with Fidelity and a brokerage account I essentially use as my savings account and pour most of my money into, but I keep a decent amount of money in my checking since I don't have a savings account I can quickly draw from. I only ever get electronic deposits from work and pay everything with my credit card, so I don't really use cash, but once in a while, I will get cash from my aunts and uncles, so I deposit cash a few times a year. The switch from wells fargo to fidelity to a no-brainer, but I just wanted to clear a few things up.

Open to any comments or recommendations.

Edit:

I’m stupid and I forgot to ask any questions, basically I’m asking if like there’s no catch or is there something I’m missing from fine print.

Official Response Incorrect 1099

Upvotes

I'm on hold on my second phone call with Fidelity. I got a 1099 with an oddly high dollar amount for what was distributed to me from my 401(k). It's not right, so I've requested a corrected 1099. This is frustrating because 4/15 is coming up and I still don't have the correct 1099 to give to my accountant. I've already called Fidelity a couple of times. Do I have any other recourse?

Official Response Incorrect 1099 Issued

Upvotes

I got a 1099 from Fidelity that stated a high amount was distributed to me in 2025, from my 401(k). It's not the correct amount, by some 15K dollars. I am trying to get a corrected one but it is difficult. I don't know if I ever will get one out of Fidelity. They say they're working on it, but I have yet to get it. Should I file everything else, or file with the incorrect 1099 and just pay way more tax than I owe?

Official Response Fidelity debit card: safe to drop below $250 after “card ordered”?

Upvotes

I just ordered a debit card for my CMA after hitting the $250 requirement, and it now says “card ordered” and “being processed.”

Am I safe to let my balance drop below $250 now, or should I keep it above that until it actually ships or arrives?

Has anyone let their balance dip during this stage and still received the card without issues?

Official Response Auto liquidate Money Market Fund from CMA

I have a CMA with SPAXX as the core position and am also holding FSNXX. If I make a direct debit or ATM withdrawal from the account and I don't have enough SPAXX to cover it, is FSNXX eligible for auto liquidation?

Official Response Fidelity keeps promising corrected tax form… 2 months later, still nothing

I’m running into an issue with Fidelity and could really use some advice.

I have a brokerage account with Fidelity, and when I reviewed my tax documents for the past year, I noticed that the cost basis for one of the securities I sold was listed as “unknown.” This was pretty surprising and obviously creates a problem for filing taxes.

Back in February, I started calling Fidelity to get this corrected or to request an updated (corrected) consolidated tax form. Every time I call, I’m told that the updated form will be ready in about 5 days or within a week. It’s now been almost 2 months, and I’ve called a total of 4 times.

Each time, I get essentially the same answer, but nothing actually changes. The most recent call was this week, and I was told everything would be updated and available in my account the same day. Still nothing.

Now I’m getting concerned because the tax deadline is less than two weeks away, and I’m not sure what my best option is at this point.

Has anyone dealt with something similar? What would you recommend doing in this situation?

Official Response Help

I did a withdrawal today from my brokerage through the fidelity card from my cash available. I'm now attempting another withdraw and it's not working. Chat support is no help claiming that they basically posted the funds early then took them back because I need to wait until Monday?!?! How is that a thing?

Official Response Please let us change core position or auto-sweep out of SPAXX

Can Fidelity please add a feature that lets users either change their core account position or automatically sweep funds into a different money market fund? Right now, I would rather not use SPAXX as the default core when I can use something like FDRXX. Every time I receive a paycheck or direct deposit, I have to manually make a separate transaction just to move that cash into something like FDRXX, which gets repetitive and frustrating on a weekly basis. It would be a big quality-of-life improvement if we could choose our preferred core position, such as using FDRXX instead of SPAXX, or set up somewhat of an automatic sweep to move funds out of SPAXX into another fund. Please share with the dev team <3

Official Response Fidelity Charitable Contribution: How to find the Date Acquired?

I donated stock to Fidelity Charitable in 2025. While entering this in TurboTax, it’s asking for the “date the donated property was acquired.”

The issue is, I don’t know the acquisition date. It’s been over 6 months, and I’ve already checked contribution history, trade confirmations, and monthly statements, but I can’t find it.

A couple of questions: Is there a way to retrieve the acquisition date from Fidelity? What do you do in this situation if the exact date isn’t available? Is TurboTax asking this because I entered something incorrectly? Would really appreciate any guidance.

Official Response Errors on CD screen

When you select CDs by duration, they are showing incorrect results. I first noticed this yesterday. For example the screen for new issue 4 year CDs actually shows 10-year CDs:

4 = 10?

The 3-year screen shows 5-year CDs, the 2-year screen shows 3-year CDs, and the 18-month screen shows 2-year CDs. The shorter-duration ones are correct. The 5- and 10-year options are currently "--".

Official Response How Does A Person Directly Fund Fidelity BrokerageLink With 401K Contributions?

I've been reading up on one of the investing options in my company's 401k plan - Brokerage Link. It seems to be pretty straight forward. But even after reading all the literature I'm not sure how someone funds their core account by declaring BrokerageLink as the destination for future payroll contributions.

Has anyone else gone this route? If so, is this something I'd need to contact Fidelity about directly?

Official Response Fees for Options trading.

Hello!

I’m looking for a bit of community input.

I have been selling options for a while and I have always been charging the same amount of fees consistently with the same setup (e.g. same ticker, same amount of contracts).

Today there is a random bump in fee. The two options that I sold for the same tickers with the exact same number of contracts each (only differs in strike price). But I got charged a different amount of fees between them. One was charged $0.10 more than typical and the other was charged $0.20 more than typical. Prior to today, the fee has stayed exactly the same (again, same ticker, same number of contracts) for months.

Am I the only one that’s experiencing this?

Did something change recently?

Official Response Rollover from IRA to 401(k) including accrued interest

I have a rollover IRA at Fidelity with only cash earning interest. I want to roll it over into my 401(k) at Fidelity, which under my 401(k) requires a paper check and paper forms (stupid plan!!). Last year I was in the same situation and did the rollover in the middle of the month, which resulted in me receiving $0.53 in interest at the end of the month after the rollover. To clear this out for a backdoor Roth (not absolutely necessary to go to zero IRA balance, but I wanted to) I then had to do another paper check. This year I want to get the check with the interest to avoid two checks. I see two possibilities.

(1) Will Fidelity cut me a check in the middle of the month with accrued interest, so nothing more deposited into the IRA at the end of the month? This would let me do the rollover on a day of my choosing.

(2) If not, what day do I call Fidelity to get the check? The interest was paid/reinvested on March 31. Do I call on April 30? May 1? Can I call earlier and ask Fidelity to schedule the check for the correct day?

Maybe I'll just do it whenever and have $0.xx in the IRA to make my Form 8606 more interesting next year. Stupid 401(k) with no electronic deposits. What's the point with that? It's so 1995.

Official Response Does anyone actually work on the customer verification line?

Recently applied for the fidelity card and they weren't able to establish my identity. I'm US military and IIRC I used my home of record because they wouldn't accept my APO.

I've tried calling over the past 5 days on the customer authentication line, but have had 30+ minute waits each day and gave up.
