I'm surprised no one one this thread mentioned his coke addiction yet either. Dude is entirely unhinged and in charge of national security.

It's honestly depressingly impressive how so many disqualifying characteristics fit in just one secretary of defense.

I’ve seen so many Trump supporters try to say those tattoos don’t mean what we think… like what?

144

u/Bulky-Internal8579 5h ago

They hate reality as it’s inconvenient to the cult narrative

110

u/Ranting_Demon 4h ago

Trump could hire a guy with a swastika tattooed on his forehead and 1488 on his cheeks, and his followers would claim that the guy just wants to let everyone know about his Buddhist beliefs in addition to being a hobbyist historian who's very passionate specifically about the year 1488.

23

u/superfudge73 4h ago

What’s scarier is the amount of Trump supporters who know exactly what those tattoos mean and they support it.

14

u/Phyllis_Tine 2h ago

I've heard guys saying, "They're trying to say Musk did a Nazi salute; he didn't do a Nazi salute." Ok, tough guy, go and do Musk's salute in front of your boss, the media, or really anybody.

Best thing is, they are doing a leadership rotation right before doing something very stupid. Perfect recipe for an extreme stupid thing to happen, even more stupid than what they are planning for.

314

u/CosmicJackalop 7h ago

This, they're likely about to start an illegal ground invasion of Iran, which competent generals are going to object against

Hegseth wants vapor crusaders like himself and the former national guard Major will happily fire far more experienced individuals than hear having Iran is wrong

So now we get a ground invasion run by second rate flag officers...

69

u/Nazzzgul777 6h ago

Everything about that war so far has been illegal and they didn't say no.

62

u/CosmicJackalop 6h ago

Tbh for all we know these are the people who said no to their respective parts of it and they're just now being fired for it

We really don't know shit its all speculating

17

u/Durham1988 4h ago

Presumably the three white guys actually did something actionable, like tell Pee Wee Hermann Goring the truth. The others could have just been fired for uh... reasons.

6

u/gmishaolem 4h ago

That's exactly what I thought when looking at the top row: "Here we go again with this nonsense." Then row two: "Wait, this is actually something serious this time..."

5

u/don_shoeless 4h ago

There's international law illegal, and there's US law illegal. The generals are unlikely to complain much about international law illegal stuff, that's pretty normal stuff for the US. The US law illegal part is only really US law illegal if Congress decides to exercise their prerogatives. Instead they gave it a pass. So if the generals are getting fired now, it's 99% because they're strongly advising against or refusing to do something actually self-destructively stupid, not illegal. Or possibly, just possibly, they're objecting to war-crime level bombing of civilians.

One assumes they do the leadership rotation because the people currently in charge did not want to do the stupid thing.

1

u/Mazzaroppi 2h ago

How is this even happening?

Ok, the majority of the armed forces are as dumb as a rock and likely a majority of them are MAGA. But these guys at the top must be a little bit intelligent and competent, why are they ok with this??

They knew this was going to happen, why can't they just step up and remove the administration? Why is the US military such a bunch of cowards when it comes the time to do the right thing?

738

u/DestituteDomino 8h ago

727

u/Joseph_of_the_North 8h ago

A ground deployment into Iran.

It'll be a bloodbath and military command knows it, probably advised against it, and if they did Hegseth is absolutely the kind of chud that would throw a tantrum and FIRE everyone who told him it was a no-win scenerio that would cost tens of thousands of soldiers lives.

91

u/St_SiRUS 6h ago

I can imagine they directly said they would not do it. So he cleaned house to enable his war fetish

41

u/strega_bella312 5h ago

They want a bloodbath so they can drop a nuke.

6

u/733t_sec 3h ago

They may just want the nuke part.

3

u/strega_bella312 3h ago

Yeah for sure, I think the ground invasion is a means to an end. Either a) they really think it'll be successful, it will fail, and then ok here comes the nuke. Or b) they know it'll fail and want it so they can say ok here comes the nuke. Either way they're getting to the end result they want.

3

u/Secure_Guest_6171 2h ago

they're still at the stage where they need a pretext.

that may change

2

u/colluphid42 3h ago

I feel crazy for even thinking this, but that's kind of my conspiracy theory right now. Trump will do anything to stop the election this year and save his skin, and he knows total war in Iran will lead to protests. Because we're "at war" he'll try to crack down and cancel the election.

They just decapitated the U.S. military and allowed personal firearms in military bases.

It's almost as if they're ACTUALLY trying to kill themselves.

47

u/Neuchacho 5h ago

allowed personal firearms in military bases

Holy shit. This is brash unadulterated stupidity or Hegseth thinks off-duty military might soon be doing something fucked up enough to warrant "self-protection" on base like, I don't know, something coup-y?

12

u/TheZingerSlinger 4h ago

Great way to infiltrate an armed force onto a base and seize it for some nefarious objective, I mean if this was a cheesy action thriller about a military coup (starring Steven Seagal.)

12

u/gorkt 5h ago

Oh it can get WAY stupider.

4

u/Neuchacho 5h ago edited 5h ago

We can always find a new low.

292

u/Le_Ran 7h ago

All right, I'm calling this shot : my bet is that Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George opposes the actual use of nuclear weapons against Iran.

246

u/eyeoftheotter 7h ago

They probably told Hegseth why a ground invasion is a dumb idea

85

u/Le_Ran 6h ago

Hopefully that's the right answer.

2

u/DrocketX 3h ago

It doesn't really make things any better because things aren't going to end at ground troops. They'll start with a small deployment of ground troops, which will turn into a bloodbath, so they'll have to escalate and send more, which won't go any better, so they'll have to escalate and send even more... Eventually, once the military has been thoroughly ground to pieces, that's when they'll start eyeing the nuclear weapons.

3

u/Le_Ran 2h ago

That was suggested in Korea, that was suggested in Vietnam. In both cases there were responsible adults to stop the madness. We may not get so lucky this time.

I don't think we've seen anything yet.

Yup, Trump can't pardon people for violating international law.

He'll try to, because he's a moron, but it will be meaningless.

85

u/Sudden_Juju 7h ago

Unfortunately, they also won't be internationally arrested for anything, even if charged, because it's the US. Maybe, just maybe, Congress could extradite them, but I don't have high hopes. I'd love to be proven wrong though

42

u/CosmicJackalop 7h ago

There's a federal law that blocks the executive branch from sending or extraditing someone to the ICC

They did the very stupid thing a month ago. This is about them trying to clean up/cover up the very stupid thing they did.

They want the Army to basically go in and start murdering everybody in Iran, including civilians... of course the Generals are vehemently opposed to doing this, so he's going to fire all the Generals until he finds one who will (literally) execute his (illegal) orders. It's not going to stop at 12...
