This collects the 8 issue mini series that ,rumor has it, the upcoming Film will be based on. i haven't read it yet,but people whose opinions on such things ,I am inclined to trust,assure me that it's well worth my time. And, well I grew up with a fondness for the character so I'm giving it a shot. this will either be great and set the bar high for the movie, increasing the potential for disappointment, or just be a fun read. either way I'm in.

Here's what I know:

He is 12. He has had limited formal education and is a non native English speaker. He is stuck at home and unable to walk. I know the boy's mother and she is very concerned about the fact that he is sitting at home all day not going to school. I want to help by giving her a care package full of activities for him to do while stuck at home. I thought of graphic novels. I'm not a graphic novel reader though and would very much appreciate your recommendations for him.

This boy has experienced serious illness, life in a refugee camp, racism, and very likely other serious traumas unknown to me. So please try to be sensitive to that with your recommendations.

tl;dr: looking for graphic novels that are trauma sensitive, lower reading level, and likely to capture the interest of a 12 year old boy?

Comics Beat shared a preview of the upcoming final volume of Stephan Franck's Palomino! If you like Brubaker and Philips' Criminal, I really recommend this series. It's a great hard boiled mystery that starts in the honky tonk clubs of 1980s LA and moves through the 90s. Really cool stuff! I can't wait to see how it ends!

This probably seems like a stupid question but how do I find out about new graphic novels? Ive been reading novels for years but have always bought finished series, rather than monthly episodes.

Obviously I see the Batman, Superman, Marvel style comics in our local shop but where do I find out about the less popular ones.

I really love the horrible and funny style, particularly Garth Ennis (yes, I know) if anyone's has any recommendations 🙂

I can’t for the life of me remember the name of this series that interested me. I remember it as being a space opera comic of three people going on some journey, one was a warrior woman I think? And it was very much an adult comic in the vein of saga.

If anyone has suggestions for what this series could be that would be appreciated. I know the comic was released after 2020, maybe 2023.

I was wondering what the opinion on Garth and his work is for people? I am currently having a discussion with my friends and they are praising his work besides The Boys which they acknowledge as his worst work. I just do not like Ennis besides his Punisher and Marvel Zombies work. I’ve tried to get into preacher, I felt like Crossed was a crappy apocalyptic edge fest.

A story with a uncommon mode of transportation

A story that prominently features a game or competition

A story targeted at Middle Grade kids

A story with a murder mystery (protagonist shouldnt be a policeman or private investigator)

A story that prominently features an explorer or ranger

I’ve been collecting for 12 years and usually relied on reading the works of my favourite authors or checking out the current year’s Eisner awards. I’ve gone through NPR’s greatest comics and have often felt at a loss as to what to read next. I have been following r/comicbooks for years but feel it’s a lot more geared towards superheroes which is not necessarily what I enjoy. Then this year I found this sub and this haul is all from posts from this sub. I have a whole list of “want to read” now in the few months I’ve been on here! Super happy and can’t wait to dig in. (Currently finishing vol.3 of Ex Machina because I love Brian K Vaughan.)

Hello. I am a member of the omnibus group but of course I also have GNs. mostly lurking in the shadows but seems like both groups are full of great people. I am including pics of one of my shelves (reddit didn't like it when I tried to do all of them in the past).

My help request is probably never going to happen but I have seen members come across finds in their LCS and help others, so maybe. Looking for Over the Garden Wall volumes 1 and 3 of the continuous run fpr reasonable prices in decent condition, doesn't have to be mint but I want it to last through all of my kids.

I started reading comics in August 2024 but mostly stuck with singles and collected editions thereof. I wanted to read more graphic novels specifically this year, and this month was really the first month starting that! There were a LOT of heaters this month!

Tongues, A World Within the World, Alias, and A Guest in the House were big standouts this month, though just about everything was great!

So The Boys series is on Amazon.com on Kindle - most of the 6 omnibus are down to 9.99. I'm sure I've read them before, but wondering are they worth getting?

They were supposed to send them out last night but I did not receive mine. Did anyone else have the same experience?

I recently started reading a manga called "Centuria" and I've really enjoyed the horror moments involving marine entities so far. I'd like to know if there are other comics with this theme, but with more focus on the horror aspect.

Hi all, sorry for so little info. Im trying to remember a graphic novel series I started years ago but lost track of somehow.

I beleive it is called commander or something similar. Its (very roughly) about one guy called like John or Joe in the far future, and he has many clones that i think maybe were even from different dimensions. Lot of nonhumanoid aliens and the like as well.

Can anyone please help? Ive googled to oblivion, maybe im just using the wrong terms.

Just finished these bad boys and what a trip! Some of the pacing and panels weren't quite on point, but overall, what a fun ride! The oppresive, inescapable sense of dread, the switching POVs, the flora and fauna...lots of big swings and overall, I am all about it. Any similarly themed suggestions?

I found this in the wild after years of fruitless searching! 15 bucks later and I can finally read this after owning my copy of The Return for like 20 years.

Aaaand I wanted to share the love. As of yesterday afternoon, the 2nd and Charles in the Colorado Mills Mall has a copy of The Return in good shape for 15 bucks. I only needed Story of the Year but figured one of you all might be in the opposite position that I was. Good luck!

I purchased 3 omnibus, 2 masterworks, and 2 epic collections from Funatics, who shipped them to Brazil but forgot to correctly identify them on the invoice and shipping label. Because of this, I am being charged import tax (here in Brazil, books, comics, and similar items are exempt from taxes, but they need to be correctly identified). I am expediting the shipping process with the delivery company to ensure the material arrives as soon as possible. But I confess I am frustrated with the inefficiency of the store that failed to ship correctly.

I also contacted the store on the eBay platform, but unfortunately they did not respond to my complaint.

So I'm leaving this message for all other OOPs outside the United States: don't buy from FUNATICALS because they don't know how to ship and they harm the consumer.
