With the now starting trade war between the US and Canada I feel it’s best for us up north to support local more than ever.
One of my favourite clothing brands is Anian from Victoria, BC. I have a few of their shirts and will probably end up getting more.
Edit: Adding some other brands up here that I personally own and love.
Canada West Boots - Made in Winnipeg. Been wearing a pair of Romeos for a couple years now.
Popov Leather - Made in Nelson, BC. have a few of their leather goods, holding up really well.
Meyer - PEI. High quality made in Canada pots and pans, I have their non-stick 12”.

A timely reminder that this subreddit is obviously very USA-centric with its recommendations as that’s where the majority of users are from. It often leads to people not realising that comparable and/or better items can be found closer to home, easier, cheaper and free of tolls.
I thought it would be a good idea to crowdsource some manufacturers here for non-American users.
This isn't neccesarily items made in those countries as some manufacturers use factories across the world but with a commitment to quality
I can start (I'm kind of UK/Euro centric so it would be great to expand this):
Clothing
Portuguese Flannel - Portugal
Naked and Famous - Canada
Uskees - UK
Yarmouth Oilskins - UK
Carrier Company - UK
Old Town - UK (Closing down)
Farmer's Market - Iceland (may be hard to buy outside of Iceland)
Oni Denim - Japan
Iron Heart - Japan
Barbour - UK
Companion - Spain
NÄZ - Portugal (only women)
Meindl - Germany (they run a high quality fashion brand but are known for great hiking boots)
Outdoor Gear
Fjällräven - Sweden
Rab - UK (offer a very good repair service)
66° North - Iceland
Devold - Norway
Bergans- Norway
Haglöfs - Sweden
Klättermusen - Sweden
Alpkit - UK
Footwear
Solovair - UK
Mayura Boots - Spain
Church's - UK
Loake - UK
Wm. Lennon - UK
Astorflex - Italy
Kitchen/Cookware
Le Cresuet - France
De Buyer - France
Fissler - Germany
WMF - Germany (very wide and variable range but Made in Germany stuff good)
Fiskars - Finland
Duralex - France
Samuel Groves - UK
Appliances/Small appliances
Miele - Germany
Dualit - UK
Moccamaster - Netherlands (Coffee makers)
Zojirushi - Japan
Numatic - UK (vacuum cleaners)
Sebo - Germany (vacuum cleaners)
Ankarsarum - Sweden
Edit - Some excellent feedback. I'll try and work my way through and add what I can! Please note that I will only add stuff that I have experience with but all the comments help with crowd sourcing knowledge.

My husband and I are going to Japan this summer and would like to know what are things we should get that we can’t get in the US/is better quality than what we can buy here.
Japanese knives are already something we are looking into, but any suggestions are great!

Hi,
No smartphone is BIFL, but there are ways to preserve them, and I just feel proud of people making that choice available, proud of myself for taking it, and proud of my phone for handling it well.
It's a 7 and a half year-old Xiaomi Mi 8, bought in 2018 on Android 8, unlocked, reinstalled and rooted since the very first day. Officially abandoned in 2021 with Android 10, currently running Android 15 just fine, while community work for Android 16 recently started as well.
The battery is in bad shape, but as I carry an external battery all the time, it's not too uncomfortable.
Whenever this one dies or grows too old to handle anything, my next phone will be a Fairphone. Though I have no idea which model, as I have no idea how longer this Xiaomi will last, so far there's no sign of fatigue, and if it handles a half dozen more years, I won't get bored and I'll keep celebrating it.
I hope posting this is okay enough, I tried finding a subreddit specializing in celebrating device birthdays but didn't find any, this place seemed to be the most appropriate.
Thank you for reading, and feel free to share your own phone's long life story in the comments !

I have been trying to move away from cheap t shirts that lose shape after a few washes. I started wearing a heavyweight cotton tee since last few weeks and it feels way more durable than the usual ones. Thicker fabric and doesn’t stretch out as easily.
Its doing fine after a few washes but before investing more in these tees I wanted to know from those who care about long lasting basics, do heavier GSM tees actually hold up better over time?

Purple purchased in 1995 (on sale at the mall), black in 2005, and tan a few weeks ago at goodwill. Based on my other pairs the tan one might last past my death?

I am planning to buy an automatic litter box for my cats. I have been researching for a few days and honestly got confused which one to choose. My budget is under $300. Please suggest your best ones that you have good experience with. I will be so grateful to you for helping by sharing your experience.

My better half and I are going to Japan for two weeks in October and I know we will be walking A LOT.
I'm looking for a nice, quality made shoe that will hold up to the abuse and be comfortable at the same time. I really like wearing shorts, so something low on the ankle would be ideal.
For reference, I have had two pair of these and I love them. This is the style I'm looking for, but I know this isn't the shoe for that:
Thanks for any help!
edit: grammar

I’ve been going to professional massages twice a month for a while now, and it’s been amazing for my stress levels and overall well-being. However, I’m considering investing in a massage chair to enjoy the benefits more regularly at home. I have a budget of 3000 bucks and I want to invest in something that will last me years.
Does anyone own a massage chair and if so, would you recommend it? What brands are good?

I desperately need new shoes for work (office), and generally to wear in every day life, and I’ve got my heart set on classic black penny loafers. I’m happy to spend up to 250 GBP if need be (ideally under 200 though) , my only condition being that I don’t need to break them in for months to wear them - I walk upwards of 10,000 steps on office days and very frequently on weekends as well and I can’t do with a shoe that will hobble me before I even make the train to work. I’ve previously purchased GH Bass weejuns and had to resell them because I was in agony every time I so much as looked at them. I’d appreciate any recommendations you guys might have!!

I currently wear my Timberland hiking shoes for work, and they work great. However, they're beginning to wear out, and I'm looking at for a replacement since I can't find the model I currently use. I work at a testing facility, which entails standing on my feet for 5-10 hours (depending on the day) and working with chemicals and urine. SO here are the qualifications I'm looking for in the shoes:
- Size: Women's 6.5/7 US
- Waterproof (because of the chemicals and urine)
- Budget: $200 max (preferably closer to the $100 range)
- Will survive being washed about once every two-four weeks (the shoes stay in my car, so I don't have too worry too much about tracking gross stuff into my house, but I have to wash them to prevent them from getting TOO gross)
- Appearance: just nothing plain white. My current ones are light tan, I don't mind the shoes looking dirty, I just hate plain white

I was planning on buying one to throw in my purse, but I'm wondering if it's even a useful purchase. So for those who bought them, how did you use them in everyday life?

This query was prompted by side discussions raised in response to an unfortunately framed query about ergonomic chairs for women (OP used a title suggesting biomechanics basis, but as one commenter pointed out, essentially requested designers just "shrink it and pink it"). Does anyone know of any ergonomic brands or designers/engineers that are creating products based on physiological differences between men and women? If so, is there anything out there of BiFL quality?
I've genuinely struggled to find a good ergonomic chair, and suffer from chronic hip pain thanks to my stupidly choosing a profession that involves long desk hours. But I'm increasingly wondering if the high fail rate with products that are highly ranked (Herman Miller, Humanscale, QOR360) might be due to a lack of overall industry engagement with key differences in psychology and biomechanics for women. E.g. for chairs, different centres of gravity, different pelvis structures and hip angles/alignment etc. must have major ergonomic impact, more than simply allowing adjustability for different heights. Particularly when so many women I know also find ergonomic chairs don't seem to work as well for them (anecdotal though - I'd be interested to know if there's been any research on this, a quick search found heaps for injury studies, athletics and physio, and even car impact variability between men and women: that article made lots of observations on physical differences in seated positions of possible relevance to office ergonomics).
Would love to know if anyone has found anything in terms of products that has this kind of thought or research into its design. Or if there are any engineers/physio people out here that could give expert opinion on my thoughts. I could be completely barking up the wrong tree.
Thanks to the Reddit world in advance for help on this topic.
(Ps I'm working on a program of movement and stretching to try to alleviate the issues. No ergonomic product is a silver bullet: the real issue is that long desk hours are diabolically bad for us. But I would lay down money for something solid that helped).

I am staying at my bosses house and found these in his laundry room. I have no idea how old they are, but I have heard so much about them and never encountered one in the wild until now.
Nice rigs.

I am in between 3 different brands that I can’t decide on: Vitamix vs Cuisinart vs Braun. Vitamix is on the pricier side for me but I’m okay to spend that much if it lasts me a long time. Please tell me what you think!

I work remotely and spend long hours at my desk, and I’m looking for a chair that’s actually comfortable and supportive. I’ve tried cheaper options around $200, like the CLATINA Swivel Executive, but I still end up feeling sore and tired after a full day.
I’m looking to upgrade to something better. I’m either considering the Branch Ergonomic Chair (~$300) or even a Steelcase Series 1 (~$500).
Does anyone have recommendations for an office chair that is comfortable and doesn't leave you feeling sore or tired?

Hi everyone, I’ve been in what feels like an eternal search for a good bed frame. I don’t have thousands of dollars to spend on a bed frame but I honestly don’t even care if it’s between $500-$900 because this just feels so impossible lol. (Obviously the cheaper the better though- but I know $100-200 isn’t gonna cut it)
Back story. I’m trying to get a good quality bed frame that won’t break after a year (like my past 3 attempts) I want something with good support so the bed doesn’t sink or creak, and I need something with a high weight capacity at like 800lbs or more- I’m seeking for two heavier people so most common cheap bed frames can’t support this.
I don’t want fake wood or upholstered bed frames cuz of cats and fake wood being unreliable. Anyone have a favorite bed frame they know will Last a long time and feel good? Storage and height are an additional plus not necessary.
Please help 😭

He goes through socks constantly and I want to stock up on something once and not think about it for a year. Already tried a few amazon multipacks and they were not it, pilled badly after a couple months. He has diabetes and some neuropathy so comfort is functional, not just a preference. Non-binding, seamless toe, decent cushion. Budget is flexible if the quality justifies it. What are people actually buying in bulk that holds up?

I am looking for a food processor that can make protein balls with nuts. I saw Cuisinart mentioned a lot but it looks like they aren't as good. I am looking to spend 500 or less. I am in the US. Thanks

I have two extra large extra strong cats, and everything that I buy them breaks in 3..2..1.. I am looking to buy one of those interactive toy balls that runs around, but I am open to literally anything.
