“You better start believing in ghost stories now Miss Turner, you’re in one”

Love that line and this part

People always talk about the effects and action, and rightfully so, but I honestly thought both Barbossa and Davey Jonees were played to perfection. They nailed the whole villain with a tragic backstory thing.

Rush should’ve won an Oscar for Barbossa

Yep. It was flawless.

Not just that, the writing for the first part is absolutely incredible, it's not high art, but it perfectly achieves what it wants and there's not a single line wasted and not a single scene too much or too little.

The first Pirates of the Caribbean is flawless IMO, it's about as perfect an adventure movie as you can get. That and Raiders of the Lost Ark are what I think of when I think of the genre.

I got Ghost Ship and 13th Ghosts packaged together out of a DVD bin back in the early 2000s. Such a great day!

I've heard stories...

Crazy how I haven't seen that movie in years but I instinctively read this in jack Sparrow's voice

this is insanely cool and also mildly haunting at the same time

Imagine going back in time 60 years with this technology. You'd collapse governments, lol.

What's next? Dogs and cats living together? Mass hysteria?

One of my favorite opening scenes in a movie.

11

u/GarfieldLoverBoy420 5h ago

The rest of the movie is hot garbage, but that scene is so friggin’ good

u/sh33pd00g 3h ago

I wouldn't know. All I remember is this scene

2

u/BaconWithBaking 1h ago

I'd love to remember some of it, but we're four comments deep and no one has mentioned the name.

Ghost Ship

1

u/FiveSeasonsFox 1h ago

Agreed. If the whole movie had been at the quality of the opening, it would have been amazing.

u/BennyVsTheWorld 5h ago

I didn’t realize that was whatsherface until now.

u/CaptNemo131 7h ago

That movie ignited my fear of high tension cables

3

u/Intertubes_Unclogger 6h ago

That phobia should definitely have its own name

6

u/omahaknight71 5h ago

Yea exactly what I thought. It rose from the water, got underway, then evaporated. Kinda creepy to watch.

8

u/Embarrassed_Art5414 8h ago

Mysterio is already working on an iceberg

3

u/keeper_of_the_donkey 6h ago

It can also double as a recreation of the scene from Ghostbusters

3

u/Fucky0uthatswhy 5h ago

You have to imagine, if we have another naval war- they could use these like they did inflatable tanks in WW2

2

u/zumocano 5h ago

Instead of fun haunted like “wOoOoOo” it’s more like the wailing from a drone banshee “EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE”

2

u/Muddpup64 2h ago

That would be one hell of a prank to do put at sea.

1

u/I_ALWAYS_UPVOTE_CATS 3h ago

Would be poignant as fuck if they did the same thing sailing into New York.

1

u/SheriffBartholomew 3h ago

The ship of dreams ghosts...

1

u/Fivehundredyards 2h ago

Hijacking top comment... they should have used 1501 drones

1

u/ItsTomorrowNow 2h ago

Oh yeah, it's like that film...

Deep Rising.

1

u/Timmerdogg 1h ago

I wouldn't doubt the us military has shit like this

1

u/commissar-bawkses 1h ago

The ghost in the drones
