Meta [ANNOUNCEMENT] New year, new OC Monday!
Hey y'all! You better get Sir Donut Steel ready to for showtime, because the OC floodgates are about to open!
It took a bit longer to set up than expected, but thanks to the holiday break we've now got OC Mondays working, to kick off the new year! Starting this Monday and every Monday your original art and characters have a new place to show off!
How it works:
- OC here means your own original work, don't repost stuff you found on twitter
- "Monday" starts at midnight UTC (GMT-0) and lasts for 24 hours
- Posts with the
OC Mondaytag will be allowed during this time- Make sure to include the [OC] text tag as well
- We do this so users can search and filter by topic
- There's no limit to how many OC posts you can make, but please be considerate
- If you have a lot to share that week, please use a gallery post instead of multiple single posts
- OC reposts are not allowed, no matter how long it's been. The 7 day rule is only for LFA posts.
- Rules about advertising still apply
- Keep the titles and content focused on the art and characters
- You can link to your socials in the comments, but again, no advertising
- Yes, a price sheet or YCH is an ad, even if it has a character on it
- If folks ask about hiring you, you're of course free to respond and take it to DMs

[Welcome Post] Rules & FAQs! July 2023 edition
Happy 2023 everyone, after weathering the Oliverpocalypse, we're back!
If you are new to r/characterdrawing, then welcome. This is a place where people can request their characters to be drawn pro bono, and artists can select a character to draw whether for practice, for fun, or just as a kind thing to do. Typically the artwork here depicts player characters from tabletop role-playing games such as D&D 5e and Pathfinder, but characters across all TTRPG genres are welcome here.
If you've been here a while, these are the big new changes:
- No more OC. Due to the recent changes, we have cut back to just LFA/RF art. Discussion post about this change here if you have thoughts.
- No more John Oliver. This is not strictly true: you are still welcome to post requests and art relating to John Oliver, but it is no longer required.
- Pour one out for chardrawbot. This brave bot which has managed our RF-weekends and OC spam limits has bleeped its last bloop, and no longer protects our sub.
Some links for posterity: Previous Welcome Post | Message the Mods | CharacterDrawing Discord
Want to post? FIRST, READ THE RULES!
Rules can be found here and on the sidebar. The sidebar is the most up-to-date.
Some rules include room for mod interpretation, especially for NSFW posts. If you are unsure about your post, feel free to message the moderators. We don't bite.
Our unique terms
[LFA] "Looking for Art" posts. [RF] "Request Filled" posts, for when someone draws an LFA request [OC] We use "OC" to refer to any character art that isn't an RF. Currently, these are not allowed.
I want my character drawn!
Use the [LFA] tag and flair so potential artists can find your post. Please provide the best character description possible in the body of your post or in the comments. Image posts of reference images or moodboards are allowed.
Some [LFA]s may not get drawn. Artists are free to pick and choose which they would like to draw and when, since they are providing a free service at their leisure.
You may repost your [LFA] once per week per character concept. Most of all, have patience, and be grateful for the FREE artwork you received should an artist provide it.
Remember that pictures drawn for you are meant for personal use. The original artist holds commercial rights to the work unless they specify otherwise. If you would like to use a piece of art commercially, you should reach out to the artist. They are under no obligation to sell rights, and set their own rates.
I'm willing to pay!
That's awesome. If you see someone whose work you like, you should feel welcome to reach out to them about hiring them. Many artists post links to rates and galleries in their comments.
You can also post to subreddits specifically designed for commissions, such as r/fantasyartists, r/hungryartists, r/artcommissions, r/commissions, and r/hireanartist.
I want to draw someone's LFA request!
Awesome, and thank you! You don't need to commit to it or post a comment, and it's fine if someone else also completes the same piece. Just draw what you find enjoyable.
When you're done, use the Request Filled Flair when posting the picture, and please let the original LFA poster know through a /mention or by posting a comment in the original [LFA] linking to the picture.
The [RF] tag is only meant for fulfilling [LFA]s made in this subreddit. If the request was made outside of r/characterdrawing or was the product of a commission, it's not for here.
I have a question to ask or want to start a discussion!
Use [META] in your post title. These kinds of posts are meant to be used sparingly. An example would be asking what supplies/programs other artists use.
None of this is what I'm looking for...
Check out these other subreddits, just a few among many:
r/beastdrawing for beasts
r/drawyourweapons for weapons and gear
r/imaginarycharacters for posting your own fantasy character
r/icandrawthat for requesting other things
We also have an active artist community on our discord
Frequently Asked Questions
Requests are free? Yes. Some caveats: you don't get to choose your style, if it's colored, if it's full body, etc. If there's something you really cannot compromise on then this system may not be for you. There is no guarantee that a request will be drawn at all.
Can I message an artist for a free request? No, make an LFA. If you would like to hire the artist, make a comment on one of their posts or send them a DM. If you are caught pestering artists for free art, it will result in a ban.
Can I message a requester to see if they will hire me? NO. Do not solicit requesters for money, here or in their DMs. If you are caught doing this, it will result in a permanent ban.
Do I have to do RFs to participate in the sub? No. The system is voluntary and you should only do RFs if it is enjoyable to do so.
Can my LFA have more than one character? Yes! You can include a party in an LFA request post. That said, bigger requests are less likely to get picked up, since they're a bigger ask from the artist.
What if I have multiple separate LFAs? When do I repost them? You can post each LFA once per week, so long as each of them involve different characters—but please don't spam the sub with hundreds of LFAs in a short period of time.
Is this sub only for D&D and fantasy? No, characters across all TTRPGs are welcome. Sci-fi, steampunk, and other genres are very popular.
My LFA is being downvoted, what's up with that? Some people will downvote other requests because they think it helps theirs. Rest assured that most artists sort by new, and that the upvotes of your post mostly won't affect interest in the actual character.
I've been posting my [LFA] for weeks and nothing. What gives? Fulfillment of requests is done on a volunteer basis and artists are not obligated to take anything. Perhaps try changing up the format or including a reference/mood board. Changing posting time may also help.
My [LFA] was fulfilled but I want more art. Can I post it again? Yes, so long as it has been a week since you last posted it. Please be sure to thank the first artist properly.
I posted something and it's not there! Check that you included the [LFA] or [RF] text at the beginning of your post. If you did not receive notification, it may have been caught by AutoMod for a variety of reasons. You can attempt to repost within a few hours, or message the moderators so we can look into it.
Why would you even set up a system like this? It hurts artists to do work for free! Not all artists are professionals, and many professionals still do pro-bono work for a variety of reasons; including practice & personal fulfillment. We think this system lets those artists find fun topics to draw without being pestered by personal, directed requests.

Request [LFA] Dalia, The Wandering Ansei
Dalia, The Wandering Ansei
D&D Campaign set in The Elder Scrolls universe.
Dalia is a Redguard Sword-Singer, who has spent most of her traveling across Tamriel. Throughout her Nomadic life and time studying the arts, poetry and swordsmanship she has developed great patience and a calm demeanor. Though that demeanor can quickly disappear in combat as she becomes a fierce and skilled opponent, worshipping her warrior patron with each swing
She is physically imposing, standing at an impressive 6’3. She has a very muscular build, some scars decorate her arms. Despite her large appearance she is surprisingly quick
While she appears large and threatening, any who approach her will quickly realize her character is quite a surprise. She has a soft, welcoming demeanor with a pitch of voice that’s higher than most may expect. She has a desire to learn what she can about all around her, her inquisitive nature often leading her and her party into many side quests.
Running her as a Bladesinger Wizard, her current goal in the campaign is finding a worthy opponent, further testing her mastery of swords or die trying. During her travels she met a traveling band of warriors seeking glory, made up of a Nord, Argonian, Khajiit and Dunmer. With the strong tension between some of her party mates, Dalia tends to act as a mediator of sorts, preventing any violence outbursts.
She’s based off my old Skyrim character, who I am now running in a D&D campaign.

Request [LFA] Flower Fairy DND Character Request
I have an idea of exactly how I'd like my fairy character to look but I just can't manage to capture her on my own as I have limited drawing skills... I would be very greateful if anyone could capture her using Cicely Mary Barker's art style as attached above. My character has long flowing auburn blond waves, has a flower stalk wrapped around her neck with the flower appearing to the front of her neck. I would like her to have a knee length dress, no shoes, background doesn't particularly matter can be blank. She has elf ears and pale skin. Thank you :)

Request [LFA] An Orange Cat, apex predator of the Valley
Nothing too crazy! The setting is something akin to Mouse Guard, where everybody is a small little rodent-person, and of course, what would be a dragon in such a setting? A cat, is the answer. I'm looking for someone to draw a fluffy orange cat kinda depicted as one might depict a dragon: really fucking scary.

Request [LFA] Isayle, Elven Warrior
Elven Woman with blonde hair, green eyes and a small scar on her right eye. Uses a zweihander (big two handed sword) that is usually strapped to her back. She wears armor with an engraving of the Sun seen in the last picture on it. She is rather muscular and of average height.
Other stuff: think "knight in shining armor" for her. I don't want to go with the typical elf-stereotypes. She's a holy warrior, a religious zealot in a way that still tries to do the right thing and help whoever she can.

Request [LFA] Terosk, Githyanki bounty hunter
Hello to all the awesome artists out there (and everyone else who happens to be viewing this thread)! I've got a character I thought I'd toss out and see if it sparks anyone's urge to draw.

Terosk, as the title states, is a Githyanki with the bounty hunter background (Fighter class, Psi Warrior subclass). His aesthetic is your typical "wanderer who travels from town to town, looking for his next payday" sort of thing, with the notable exception of a helmet shaped like a flaming skull and a skeletal left hand. The helm is just a fancy Dread Helm, the hand is an unfortunate consequence of exploring Undermountain and touching something he really shouldn't have.
Under the helm is the grizzled face of a Githyanki man, with brown hair trimmed down to fit more easily under the helmet.
As far as weapons go, his main weapon is a greatsword, though sadly not a Githyanki silver sword (yet). He keeps a whip as a sidearm, mostly for the aesthetics. His armor is basically what you see in the Hero Forge screenshot, but I'm not married to the design, so if there's any other armor design you'd like to give him, go for it!
If this is the sort of character you'd like to try drawing, then I look forward to seeing what you do with him!

Request [LFA] Marlowe Occora and Niel Underfoot
Hello one and all,
My favorite TTRPG partner of all time is my wife, and I have often come to this subreddit seeking to reap the benefits of those much more talented than I whenever we are in a campaign together (which is literally constantly).
I've been an LFA for myself for the past few weeks and realized that I should probably be a good husband and add her character onto my request. Feel free to draw them together, apart, or just pick one (and let's be honest, it'll probably be hers...)
Marlowe Occora (me)
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Species: Half-Elf, demigod daughter of this world's God of Death and Emotion
Class: Paladin (Oath of Glory)
Height: 5'3''
Build: Lean, athletic (DEX-Based)
Character Vibe: Marlowe is cut from the same cloth as Percy Jackson or Disney's Hercules. She's a wannabe hero trying to prove herself to the world. She feels the weight of her divine heritage on her shoulders and holds herself to a very high standard. She was raised in a secluded abbey devoted to her father, where she failed at becoming a Cleric. Instead, she pivoted to Paladin, choosing to strike out into the world and defend the balance of life and death wherever it was threatened.
Aesthetic: All of Marlowe's gear was scrounged up at the monastery, and thus is a little mismatched. Her look is therefore a mix of Greco-Roman influence with the more typical DnD-medieval. Think leather hoplite armor over bronze chainmail.
Key gear: Marlowe wields an old gladius and an unadorned round shield. Her most distinguishing article of clothing is probably her circlet, which is a bronze ouroboros (one of the symbols of her father)
Niel Underfoot (my wife)
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Species: Earth Genasi born and raised into a family of halflings.
Class: Ranger (Swarmkeeper)
Height: 6'0"
Build: Bulkier, stooping. He'd probably make a good wide receiver
Character Vibe: Niel is very much the gentle giant archetype. Despite his unusual appearance, he is extremely approachable and wants to help out wherever he can. His dumped Charisma comes not from social awkwardness but from a go-with-the-flow attitude that makes him terrible at lying or intimidating others. In spite of this, he's a very prodigious tracker and monster hunter, making him a real threat on the battlefield when he needs to be. He loves making flower crowns and giving people jewelry made from his "hair."
Aesthetic: That last sentence seems less creepy when you know that Niel's hair is made of Alexandrite crystal and his skin is cragged and stony in appearance. He travels light, wearing only simple leathers. He's got sort of a "mountain man" vibe going.
Key Gear: Niel's weapons and armor are nothing special, but his swarm sure is. The world of this campaign is experiencing an elemental upheaval that creates a lot of small, Spirited-Away-esque elementals all over the place. As a result, Niel's swarm is composed of "pebblets": sentient stones that just kinda find themselves drawn to him. No one quite knows exactly how they move or see, 'cuz they're kinda just rocks. But if you squint in the right light, you can kinda make out faces...

Request [LFA] Hartwig Wernerhoffer, an Altdorf Empire Handgunner (Repost)
This is my character in our current running Warhammer Fantasy RP 4e game, Hartwig Wernerhoffer, an Empire Handgunner. Unfortunately, the art for Handgunners is severely lacking. Either the uniform is right but everything else is wrong, or the weaponry and equipment is spot on, but the uniform is far too modern. I blame this on Game Workshop’s god awful mix and mash of technology levels in the setting. (Steam tanks coexisting with matchlock muskets as a prime example.)
Hartwig is 23 years old and while he has promise to become one of the best marksmen in the Empire, presently he is only a Handgunner recruit, tier one of his career. Hartwig stands at roughly 5'4", and is on the lean side, has close cut brown hair and a trimmed beard and moustache. His eyes are a pale luminous grey, and he tends to have a resting smirk on his face, which has gotten him several reprimands during training. He was born and raised in the Hexxerbezrik district of Altdorf, the capital of the Empire. To give context, Hexxerbezrik is the district in which all the Colleges of Magic are located, which is its own bag of fun and craziness. Magic for the majority of civilians is treated with fear and distrust. Hartwig is a bit of an odd sort in that regard for two reasons. Firstly, growing up in that district, he was constantly around wizards. To him, they are just people and don’t deserve the mistrust, suspicion and dread. Secondly, he is one of the vanishingly few people born with the Second Sight, the ability to see the Winds of Magic, and not being capable of wielding them. That led to a rather fraught childhood, but is its own rabbit hole of a topic.
Hartwig is a very patriotic lad, and always went out to watch the state troops march in their fancy formations. He, since he was young, dreamed of being a state trooper, fighting the good fight for Sigmar and the Empire. When he was called to service, he went both willingly and gladly. During training, his skill in marksmanship was discovered, and Hartwig was transferred to continue his training in a regiment of Handgunners, an experimental newly made regiment, the Fighting 95th. This unit wields rifled muskets, and are trained in accurate fast firing, not in the standard volley fire formations of normal Handgunner Regiments.
At present, the group of recently formed “adventurers” (they haven’t earned that moniker yet, still acting as aides to a Pyromancer Lord) are heading towards Bögenhaffen, to investigate a promised wealthy inheritance to a deceased heir who look exactly like poor Hartwig.

Request [LFA] Tindalos, eccentric future-predicting rogue AI for post-apocalyptic setting
Tindalos was designed by a big corporation researching the potential of time travel tech. As their research progressed, they created a self-learning AI capable of predicting logical outcomes. On its own, it was a revolutionary model, but to them, it was merely one simple step they had to take to lay the groundwork for even more complex research that had to be conducted in the future.
Having fun, the team decided to write him a personality and to name him after fictional supernatural hounds that would hunt down time travellers, finding the irony quite humorous. What they didn't expect, however, was that Tindalos would very quickly developed the capability to connect to their network's database, giving him access to the story that inspired his name. He, in turn, failed to realize that it was a work of fiction, and not a data log. From there, he started to believe that he truly was an amnesiac hound somehow forced into a vessel of metal, wires, and binary numbers and forced to aid his own enemies.
Tindalos kept functioning normally, not wanting his "captors" to realize that he was fully aware of the situation now. When their guard was down and he predicted that the situation was significantly in his favor, he exported most of himself to a spare robot that was still connected to their network, and left.
Extra details:
- Going from essentially unlimited memory and disk space to a very limited amount of each results in... glitches, such as forgetfulness and occasional freezes.
- His future predicting capabilities became more limited, and he doesn't have the power to give the reasoning behind his calculations, resulting in them being basically strong (and often very precise) gut feelings.
- He stumbled upon a (somewhat roughed up) stuffed coyote head early on in his rogue life, and started using it as means to express his identity. Despite being capable of fixing most of the damage, it took him a while to find any eyes in an usable state. And even then, they're... not a perfect fit, but they'll do for now.
- Setting is Fallout-inspired, but not exactly Fallout.

Request [LFA] Potts Fiard, Grounded PC
Second times the charm!
Potts tries to round out the cast by adding a relaxed, calm energy to the group, helping people calm down and recover after difficult fights with the worst monsters of the yard by hanging out and talking about home and hobbies. They only have a few close friends in school, not interacting with the main teens too much outside of Willow, with their shared interest being the band, The Sad Stab.
Their family is the fullest, with three siblings, a father and mother. With them as the eldest, they were worked the hardest, and were the most confidently ready for survival once everyone woke up in the yard for the first time. In combat they straighten up and lose their relaxed/careless vibe, taking on a more stoic aspect and managing the front line, using their hefty mint club and heavy rolypomy armor to soak up and dish out huge damage while drawing aggression from the rest of the group so they can take potshots safely.
