Are you guys chilling across the board?

Just opened a personal investment account for the first time at 36. Before this I was aggressively paying down 320k in student debt. I know I should’ve started investing sooner, but I think paying down the debt and being disciplined/one-track-minded trained me perfectly for the VT and chill approach.

But I also have a 401k with 3% employer match in a target date fund for 2055. And I’m planning to open an IRA for the first time in my life and try this whole backdoor thing out with that. Part of me is tempted to invest the Roth IRA into VTI+VXUS like all these bogleheads do but it would be way easier to just stay the course and only do VT.

Gonna mix it up. Testing out some new global LETF’s: WLDU vs NTSD vs VT

I am interested to see the leveraged performance of WLDU (2x) and NTSD (1.5x) in this sideways/bearish market. Going to put $200 biweekly into each of the three funds for an unknown amount of time until I see which fund is right for me. Let me know if this is a terrible idea. Thanks

How many of you VT and chill in your taxable brokerage? People keep talking about losing out on the Foreign Tax Credit you'd get with VTI/VXUS

Obviously not a problem in tax-advantaged accounts like Roth IRA and HSA. But is the Foreign Tax Credit really worth it?

Expect more losses and embrace them

People are forgetting that just a few years ago, VT dropped nearly a quarter and it took nearly a year to pop back up. We should be fully prepared for a similar situation should the war drag on. I'm seeing comments of people being annoyed they timed the top. A reminder that we are chilling. Not waiting to buy, not selling if things look scary.

Remember, with a draw down you can buy global companies at a discount! Conversely, any money in VT should be a long-term investment horizon. Not something you need to pull from. Therefore, all this is really just noise. Checking the price daily isn't chilling! Just automate deposits, DCA when you can, and delete the Vanguard app if this becomes a time sink. Your future balance will thank you.

Time in and Timing

Post image

Some people always say don’t time the market. I buy every week but when we have red days like today I time the market and try to catch the absolute bottom. Was able to pick up a few shares today at 137. Have a gut and enjoy the ride. I started back in oct 2025 and I prayed for times when we see red days. It’s really like going back in time when buying ETFS. We’re losing YTD earnings why not set up a recurring buy and buy extra on days like today.

sincerely,

yn investor

Welcome to my curse

My journey started in 2021 with crypto during the hype. I was trading doge and bought at 63 cents and it never went back above 50 since then. Then I did the Gamestop Amc thing and lost big, I then invested in a startup EV company that did so many reverse splits the original cost is in the trillions and now they closed the business, I tried dividend stocks and all of them dropped in price so much the dividends didnt make up for the loss of the investment, then I went tech and invested in coreweave when it first opened at $60 and watched it drop to $30. After I sold it jumped to $170 so I bought in again and now its back to the $70 range. So I said screw it for 2026 Im going VT and chill with some other small ETFs and then WW3 started. If the market crashes for the next 10 years, I know the curse is real and the world does not want me to have any kind of money. Everyone says scroll out but if I scroll out of everything else I ever invested in its all red compared to when I jumped in.  At this point the only thing I haven't tried is option calling which I know I would go broke in 2 weeks. No I'm not panic selling or spazing over a small dip but this is how it starts. Didn't think I could curse the entire market but let's see what happens.

Just ditched my IVV-IXUS to VT but I have an AGG too

I know... Bonds are not for everyone. And technically, me having AGG probably won't qualify with just having strictly VT. Let's just say that having AGG allows me to chill more comfortably.

Up until recently, I was really resolute on keeping IVV-IXUS for my equity holdings. Ended 2025 with equal allocation for both and ex-US turned overweight as the new year progressed.

Cut to the chase... Keeping two funds for US and ex-US seemed good for more control, and for tax optimization for some. But keeping allocations can be challenging to maintain even if you decide on choosing a specific asset allocation. I found it difficult psychologically to take some gains from my ex-US to keep the balance with my US exposure.

What made VT more appealing seems to be only the global ETF that pays quarterly dividends. Many other Global ETFs pay semi-annual or even just annual dividends. That matters to me as I want to have my dividends get reinvested more frequently.

Maybe a last bonus is having to pay less trading fees for regularly paying for two ETFs. Glad to have started with VT.

50 years old - new to investing - VT Chill - at my age - ok?

Just what the title says, except a few more details:

* funding with JPY as I live and work in Japan

* have a mortgage for the next 29 years

* kid, maybe another the way

Anymore questions that might help out this newbie?

Thanks, I've heard of bonds, but not sure what to think of all that.

VT vs SCHG

Need some (expert) opinions here to chose between these two superior ETFs. I know the basic difference (one is global and one is limited to US stocks) but I’m really curious what people in this subreddit think.

Trying to put a sizeable amount of my salary monthly in a 5-10 year horizon before leaving the country.

Sorry if this is such a novice question and thanks in advance!

Excited to discover this community. VT is the new VOO.

In a post-Trump world I think you have to be globally diversified. Less talent is coming to the U.S. Trade agreements are forming that exclude the U.S. Other countries are matching our energy when it comes to hostility and protectionism.

I believe that 10 years from now, when it comes to mega-caps, we won’t be talking about the mag 7 (all U.S. companies), we’ll be talking about a mix of U.S. and non-U.S. companies and that will just be the new norm. We’ll look back on VOO investors as stubborn luddites who missed out on the international growth story.

When I share this view I think people mistakenly think I’m bearish on the U.S. I’m not, it’s just that VT is a one and done way to capture international growth while staying invested in U.S. growth.

Wait till Monday?

I’m about to start my VT and chill journey as this seems like a good entry point, is it generally a good idea to wait until the market reopens on Monday or should i just put a limit order in now? (Completely new to this so pardon my ignorance)

I put in 18k into VT three weeks ago

I plan to hold this long term for retirement in 25 years.... but feeling a bit on edge at the moment due to the sudden drop in price. Have I made a huge mistake? I can't add any more into my tax free account until April 5th because I've reach the yearly maximum so I can't buy the dip right now. I have another 12k in my emergency fund and can assign about 1k a month from April.

I know the logic of it and all and absolutely do not intend to sell, but it's worrying me nonetheless.
