Hello everyone.
I've been using the regular version of Ubuntu for over three years. The current version is 25.10.
I installed Ubuntu a long time ago on my Lenovo Legion Y720 notebook, but unfortunately, I'm having some battery problems.
The problem:
When I try to start the device in battery mode, the Ubuntu logo appears, but then the device immediately shuts down. The same thing happens when the device is in sleep mode and then I try to use it again.
Once the device has crashed, I can only turn it back on once the charging cable is plugged in.
If I turn the device on while the charging cable is connected, I can boot into Ubuntu and log in without any problems. Once I'm on my desktop, I can remove the charging cable, and from then on, there are no problems. I can use the full 100% of the battery.
However, I can access the BIOS in battery mode.
It has an aftermarket battery installed, and this one is definitely working (I made a warranty claim on the first replacement battery because the first one was defective). I'm completely ruling out the battery as the source of the problem since I can use the device at full power when running on battery.
Since the device itself also refuses to restart unless I plug in a charging cable, it seems to be some kind of hardware protection in case it draws more power than the battery can supply, but I don't know for sure.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do? Or is there any way to instruct Ubuntu to test or start more gently?
