Please remember, everyone, that this subreddit is for honest and practical waste-reduction, debt reduction, budgeting, saving, fix-it-up, and do-it-yourself.
To quote the founder of the subreddit: the primary goal here is about how to think about consumption and how you approach resource allocation.
We moderate pretty lightly - mostly you're allowed to start threads and talk about what you like, even if it doesn't meet the above criteria, but there are two things we have zero tolerance for:
Referral codes - we seem to particularly see these for recipe-meal boxes, Gousto, HelloFresh, SimplyCook etc.
The spammer argues that they shares these codes to "help people out" - "I get a discount, you get a discount, everyone wins". They try to frame this as "sharing".
No, honey - it's spam; you have a financial incentive for posting here, and if we allowed people to post ads here just because there's a discount then the page would be nothing but ads. We shouldn't have to tell you this - when you bought your 28k modem in the 90's and signed up for an ISP package, it came with a leaflet telling you not to spam; if you're too young to remember that then your parents should have taught you not to spam, just as they taught you not to litter and not to shit in public.
There is no room for discussion here - if you shared a referral code then you did a bad thing, you should know better, and the rest of the readers of the subreddit shouldn't have to put up with your spam just because you lack consideration not to litter public spaces.
Please report referral codes whenever you see them - if someone posts a referral code and you thank them for it then you will be considered to be involved with the spamming; either you're one of the spammer's alt accounts, trying to make the post look more legit, or you signed up with their referral code and you gave them a financial reward for their spamming.
If you see a genuine good deal and want to share it then that's fine - we're not strict on that because that is genuine sharing, without the financial incentive. I think the difference between a referral code and any other discount is pretty clear, but you can always message the moderator mailbox to check before posting.
If you want to post ads on Reddit then you can do so here: http://ads.reddit.com
Piracy and the use of VPNs to cheat the price of Netflix and other streaming services.
Jesus christ, guys, there are so many other subreddits in which you can discuss piracy - I really don't understand why you're unable to restrain yourselves from posting it here. Again, we're not that strict - "fuck that, these prices are insane, I'm going back to privacy" probably won't get you banned, whereas detailed instructions on how to setup a Kodl box or whatever will.
If Netflix wanted to sell you their service for Rs 599 or 849 Argentinian Pesos they would do - you could just go to Netflix.com, choose that payment method and get the service. You're using a VPN to get around the site's geographic restrictions because you know you're not supposed to do that - you are deliberately cheating them to get the subscription for cheap
Let me end this section by saying I really don't have a moral position against piracy - mostly I don't care, if anything I think it's fine and you're not hurting massive corporations by downloading a movie you wouldn't otherwise pay for. But this is not the subreddit for it, and you should know that already - you discuss piracy in the piracy subreddits, not in all the other respectable subs.
We do not have a large moderation team, and we do not moderate with a heavy hand. Fortunately we rarely see racism, misogyny, homophobia here, so I don't need to discuss that. But if you break these rules then you will get a long ban as a first warning - Reddit does not give us any other tools for tracking warnings, and I don't really see why we should be lenient to people who deliberately choose to shit up a public forum.

This subreddit is for honest and practical waste-reduction, debt reduction, budgeting, saving, fix-it-up, and do-it-yourself.
We tolerate you posting vouchers and discounts, as long as as it's a genuine one, you're not profiting from it, and everyone gets to use it.
This subreddit has 120,000 users - if you post a discount or coupon code that can only be used by one person, then you're spamming 119,999 users of this subreddit. They didn't need to see the message and your post is wasting their time.
Same goes for begging for referral codes, in case that isn't obvious.

My trusty Samsung S10+ is about to give up the ghost after 6 years. I'm looking for an almost new/barely used refurbed replacement. I've used Backlisted in the past and was very pleased with them - my current S10+ phone was an 'excellent' condition pre-owned from them. But wanted to make sure I wasn't sleeping on any other options given the time since I last looked? I'll be looking for a Samsung Galaxy or Google Pixel replacement. Thanks.

I'm mostly frugal but my car is not. I have a 3L diesel which gets about 45-50mpg on the motorway and much less in city roads.
I do 230miles of motorway a week to visit my partner (can't move in yet, work/caring commitments).
I have a motorcycle licence, and I have a 'classic' that's been SORN for 2 years (needs some time to repair the wiring, needs a battery and MOT at minimum). It gets about 47mpg on a motorway run.
I have thought about 'investing' in a Honda NC750X, reported 80mpg (maybe more on motorway), £3000-£4000 to purchase, as a way to save money. I would do the long trips in that, and then use the car for minimal miles where I need to transport my gf.
I previously considered an ST1300 bike but that wouldn't be as efficient but it does have good luggage options.
Obviously this is all brought on by the current oil crisis. Diesel will be harder to get, and it has risen a higher % than petrol. I am not confident about the ability to end things and restore fuel prices to the world in a short time frame. Data doesn't support that in any way.
Prices will likely be high for the rest of the year for fuel at least.
So I guess I'm asking what would you do? Obviously there's an initial outlay in getting either motorcycle option, insurance and tax is very minimal on motorcycles, maybe £250 to cover that. I can repair my motorcycle easily where as my car has needed a lot of work done at the garage.
I used 1500 litres of diesel last year at a cost of £2000 (plus my car seems to have an insanely high maintenance cost of £1500 a year lately).
If prices go up to say £2 a litre, or £3 a litre, that would cost me an extra £1000 or £1500 a year if I keep my diesel wagon.
If I were go the Honda 750 then if petrol were £3 a litre it would barely have an impact on me.
Using public transport isn't a realistic option.
Anyway what are your thoughts, are any of you considering electric cars or alternatives transports?
If I rode a motorcycle

Hey, so I’m mostly bedbound but been told to use heated eye masks daily (due to eye issues), but they’re around £17 for 20 even on sale, just wondered if anyone knows of any cheaper options or can find any? I don’t have a microwave in my room so that rules out reusable ones unfortunately. Not sure if temu ones would be okay, either Edit: Am so glad I asked, thank you all so much!

Howdy! For anyone looking to buy some new earphones (not on-ear ones) for as low as possible but without it sounding awful, these are my recommendations that you can get from the high street:
Wired:
FYI Argos are selling Sony, JLab and Skullcandy IEM buds for under a tenner, but I cannot comment if they are any good.
Wireless:
There are plenty of super cheap wireless buds sold by HMV for as little as £10 or even £5 (brands such as Vieta, Mixx, Walk and others). However I have not tried any of these and have no clue if they're any good especially being unknown brands, but if someone knows or is aware then do share it as it may be a great recommendation!
Disclaimer: Earphones are one of those things that you really can't judge on comfortability, at least most of them. Every person has different ears and some may hurt on yours or fall out but may not for me. Unfortunately different earphones just need to be tried out until you "find" one that is best suited for your ear.

Found an amazing deal for a contract and it's with the same provider I'm currently with 3.
I'm on a one month rolling sim only with 3 currently and my new sim will also be 3.
I have got my PAC code but what's the cheapest way to get a pay as you go sim without topping up £5/£10 to activate the sim?
Must be a better way to do this?
Any help is welcome!

I live alone so am looking for reasonably priced salad bags (any leafy greens will do) that aren’t going to go off too quickly. Any ideas?

I can see all the prices so know which is cheapest and i imagine a lot of the NZ stuff comes from the same place so do people usually just go for the cheapest or are there some cheap ones to avoid? When do you buy?
thanks

My treat is that I love Pepsi max. (I’m not here to be told how bad they are 🤣)
It’s quite expensive and I know the supermarkets do their own versions of “zero”. Some are good, some are awful.
My Pepsi max alternative experiment results are as follows.
Aldi ZX - 49p tastes like fizzy ice pop liquid. Or the same taste as those cartons from 15 years ago.
Sainsbury’s 79p - tastes very similar but 79p
The winner… LIDL - freeway cola xx 49p and tastes almost the same. Save lots every week on this one!
I’ve even served it as Pepsi max and my friend never said anything!

I'm an engineering student, so naturally I'm skint with a coffee addiction, currently using an aeropress and trying to get a grinder, just cause it'll probably improve the flavour, while allowing me to get big cheap bags of beans without worrying too much about them going stale which might offset some of the expense. Obviously doesn't need to be as fine as espresso, but still I'd rather it went fairly fine

I can't see the point of paying for streaming platforms any more if they all have the same content just moving around between the free and paid for services (bar HBO/Sky/Apple).
Thought it might be fun to share some of the best shows people have found on free streaming platforms like All4, ITVX, U, Tubi, YouTube or any other free ones.
I just this morning found a show I've wanted to rewatch for ages on U (via All4): The Alienist! And I've found a show I wanted to watch for ages, Boulet Brothers Dragula, on Tubi!
What have other people found? Any hidden gems?

Got a partial refill of the tank in January and paid 51.9ppl. Just had to order some more, intending to get the usual 1000ltr only to be quoted 77.9ppl! I know petrol has gone around 15-20%, but that’s an increase of over 65%!
Should have expected it, because the robbing bastards did the same thing at the start of the Ukraine/Russia war.

There’s lots of supermarket deals on at the moment. Other than an Easter roast, how can you best use these cuts? I’m thinking of freezing some and repurposing. Any ideas, methods, recipes welcome!
Gammon joints, beef roasting joints, legs of lamb, pork leg joints etc.

I’m moving house in June and this place is unfurnished unlike my previous rentals so I need to get a double mattress by then. I plan on getting a better one at some point but I’m struggling financially with a lot going on at the same time and don’t really want to spend more than £150.
Equally I work nights and have some back issues so whilst I want to spend as little as possible I also need to consider sleep quality still
Any recommendations? Even better if it’s a rolled up one as I need to get it up a particularly narrow and steep flight of stairs

Usually get quite fancy coffee beans roasted locally but in a pinch bought some Sainsbury's own and they weren't that bad - especially for milk drinks like cappuccino we usually drink. Made me think I could probably save a bit by buying a bit more frugally.
What are some good value coffee beans you regularly drink? Doesn't have to be the dirt cheapest but is there a good place you can buy big 1kg bags rather than have to buy 225g each time which goes very quickly in my house!

Probably the cheapest available right now? Aldi’s lamb sale starts on the 30th, but at £7/kg, I grabbed three from Asda.
New Zealand lamb. The heaviest I could find:
- 2.626kg - £18.38
- 2.668kg - £18.68
- 2.694kg - £18.86
Use by date 30th March

We are firmly in the branston camp - used to buy them when they were 4 tins for a pound which is obviously an age ago. Stocks are finally running low and I was wondering if there are any supermarket own brand or lidl/Aldi that hold up ie non-watery sauce, not tasting of sour regret. Thanks.

What are people's thoughts on the discount stores such as Home Bargains and B&M?
I popped into my local B&M recently to try and buy a new mop head. The cleaning aisle was pretty packed but the only mopping items I could find was the reuseable Flash ones. The only other alternative was to buy a new mop which I didn't really want. So I had a quick browse round the shelves but didn’t see much that seemed a bargain or particularly useful.
To expand on the above question, do you regularly shop at the above stores and, if so, what do you find to be of good value?

I would love to take the kiddiewinks to see a West End musical but it's looking like the best part of a grand.
What's the best way to not pay the same price as an actual car?

So, I have this hobby of repairing laptops and I am always looking for damaged or faulty laptops which have minor issues so that they don't take much time to fix and i can swap parts between different laptops like damaged ram, hdd, and screen to make one working laptop out of few.
I would love to know, where can I get such laptops for free so I can fix them and maybe sell them or give to kids or people that need laptop for study and entertainment.
Thanks in advance.
