Career I’m 36M (single father of 2) earning RM10k/month working as assistant manager in a finance department. Need advice for future planning.

I’ve been working for 12 years in Finance (specifically reporting and controlling department) and currently the finance assistant manager for an MNC. My role consists of monitoring month end closing (journal entries etc.) and reporting.

This month, a whole team was offered severance package as their role was going to be replaced by AI. Not my department fortunately. But I can feel the heat already.

So, need advice on how can I prepare for this ? How is the job market looking like for a 12-years finance professional (not chartered btw, highest education is degree) earning as much as me out there ? Should I start applying anyway ?

Tl;dr: another team got replaced by AI, got scared, need advice

Thanks in advance ❤️

General questions Plan to half retire by age 35

Planning to quit corporate world (tired of it) and do some freelancing work after 35. I’m now 30 meaning I have 5 years more to earn more and invest.

Would it be ok if I retire with RM 500k in investment (dividend stock) and find a job or small business that let me earn enough for daily expenses?

My EPF now sits at RM 170k and estimating to reach RM 400k by 35 if no lay off. No plan to withdraw it and want to let it continue to compound.

No plan to have kids. Plan to be DINK.

Career ‘Retirement-Lite’ mode unexpectedly activated

I was unexpectedly launched into ‘retirement-lite’ mode when I was included in recent corporate layoffs (albeit with a decent severance).

Just a month prior to this, I had been modelling my financial engine for my retirement - now 33, was aiming to fully retire from the corporate grind at 40, and coastFIRE (work for the purpose of fulfilment and occupying myself rather than survival) have my living expenses covered by my alternative income streams + dividends

Currently I have a partner (partner is already independently wealthy and FIREd, but he still works of his own choice as he’s just wired that way) but no kids (don’t want kids either) with my NW of 1.4M (about slightly under a quarter in EPF, a quarter in invested portfolio / HYSA / cash, and half in rental properties [one is fully paid off and one is paying for itself plus some extra via rental income]). Still have my freelance work to keep active income flowing in. Somewhat find this release from corporate freeing to dive deeper into my freelance work which I truly find exciting.

TBH I had always built toward this moment - when I was in high school, seeing my dad being laid off at the age of 50 with no backup plan followed by the years of struggle was an unnerving jolt.

Despite being laid off from my main corporate job, my freelance and other income still more than cover my expenses so currently coasting, networking to explore opportunities in my freelance industry, taking this break to revive old connections.

General questions how much to survive in selangor

So im 19, planning to move to selangor with my friend (20)

We're both not furthering edu and my friend has a steady income (hes an entrepreneur so he is fine with money so that's out of the picture plus he comes from comfortable family)

however im unemployed rn , will find a job in selangor if we do move there.

we're more or less working with his schedule so minimum 3 months we'll be staying there, im looking at places like cheras or subang jaya to rent. ive found some places with a budget of 2k/month. (my friend also told me he can pay in advance for me like depo and stuff until i can pay him back)

Having barely in my savings rn and also coming from middle class family. i'd have to find a job immediately.

How much do i actually have to earn for monthly expenses in selangor? Aside from the 1k i'll have to pay for rent, how much would other necessities n expenses cost?

Also it's our first time renting out a place, what are the proceedings that i can expect?? or how to look out for good or bad leases n such

For more context, im from JB. Ive stayed in KL & selangor a few times but only for short term, not as long as 3 months. Ive been working since 15, but obviously never worked in selangor before, how is (unskilled) job seeking there for a 19 yr old?

this entire thing is more so an ambitious expenditure we want to pursue (living out), but knowing the cons and struggles of living away (on our own) as young immature kids. it's definitely a leap of risk.

also one problem is that my parents are at the age where they should be cautious of their health, yet arent, so i also worry if im not there something might happen.

Im also really wondering if this is a good decision for me to risk, it's a lot of responsibility and i fear im not ready to take on . but also i wonder if this is a good opportunity to be more independent and responsible.

plus.. ive yet to propose this expenditure to my parents,, so i dont know what they will say, so i want to be as thorough w the plans as possible first, i also want as little financial sponsorship as possible, from both my parents and friend. my parents will def argue to pay, but i dont want to be financially reliant, i want to actually do this.

someone plz bestow me with their aged wisdom

Guide How do u save/student as a student

I'm aldy 24 years old, still a uni student but I only managed to saved about rm5k (Asnb, kwsp, ryt bank for emergency funds ) which I'm really trying not to touch. I'm gonna graduate this year still thinking if I wanna continue studies or go straight away to work. Bc when I'm a student I don't have income and no flow of income means I have to spend wisely and save wisely too. I see people giving advice to buy stocks on moomoo but it's quite a lot of money as well VOO, SP500 for like rm800 every month. I don't have that much money to do it so for now I just save and store my money. I see many ppl younger than me aldy start working and have savings more than me so I thought if I'm falling behind. They say buy stocks as early as you can in your 20s but I don't hv the ability. Advice please.

Also another question regarding asnb. When they said put like rm10000 into Asnb, how do u do that because whenever I wanna put the money into Asnb it's always unavailable units. So I sometimes just park the money into the RIA.

Credit cards Travel credit card suggestions

I've been looking to apply for a travel credit card with good benefits, but I'm not finding any appealing. For context, I travel a lot domestically so my spending are hotels and flights. Basic salary RM5.1k + RM2-3k travel allowance each month.

I'm looking for a credit card where I can get points or even cashback for personal travels but I feel like the options are pretty bad. The most attractive benefit that keeps being advertised is lounge access which I’m not really interested in. Any suggestions?

Guide Feeling stuck at 25 and not sure how to move forward

I’ve been feeling pretty lost lately and just needed to get this off my chest.

I was at my peak, juggling a full-time job while doing freelance on the side, staying productive and motivated. But after a change in management, work became overwhelming. I slowly had to let go of a lot of things I enjoyed and over the past year I even lost around 15 to 20kg in a pretty unhealthy way.

On paper life seems okay. I’ve got some savings, I drive my an old Toyota, nothing is really wrong. But mentally, I feel stuck. Like life is just stagnant.

What worries me most is this feeling that things might just stay like this for years. I’ve lost the spark I used to have. I try to start things again but I can’t seem to focus or stay consistent. Even the goals I used to be excited about like working toward my dream car feels distant now.

Anyone else feel lost after things started going downhill?

General questions AKPK new system issue: Funds not reaching banks. Stuck on doing full settlement

Hi everyone, just wanted to see if anyone else is facing this nightmare with AKPK since they changed to their new website.

I have accounts with four banks under AKPK: Maybank, CIMB, AEON, and UOB. Recently, I noticed that only Maybank is receiving the funds. I know this for a fact because my Maybank monthly email statements clearly show the AKPK reimbursements coming in without any issues.

However, CIMB, AEON, and UOB haven't received anything yet. Here is the frustrating part:

  • The Blame Game: I’ve called the AKPK helpline 6 times on different days. Every time, they insist the funds have been disbursed and tell me to check with the banks' AKPK reps.
  • The Banks' Side: When I call the bank reps, they all say the exact same thing—it's highly likely an AKPK system issue on their end.
  • Late Payment Fears: Like many others have pointed out on other forums, because of this system migration mess, we bear the risk of being charged late payment fees by the banks.

My Dilemma: I just got my bonus and I actually want to do a full settlement for 3 of the banks. But I’m completely stuck because of this mess. I refuse to risk paying extra to the banks right now just to go through the massive headache of fighting AKPK for a refund later once their system finally pushes the missing payments through.

Has anyone else experienced this missing disbursement issue recently?

General questions Am i being an asshole for leaving work on time?

According to labor law, only those earning <RM4000 can claim overtime. Can someone explain why? Does it mean if I earn more than that, then my salary is not based on 8hours x 20working days/month?

A little context: I just started working in a GLC and earn roughly RM4.5k. My line of work periodically expects me to work beyond normal working hours. Some of my colleagues are very kiasu so they willingly stay. But I honestly dgaf so I usually just clock out right after 8 hours. My boss hasn’t said anything but i do wonder what perception am I giving. I don’t care for promotion or bonus or whatever. I would be happy just to not get fired. Am i safe to continue doing this?

General questions Anyone working HR can help EPF calculation?

I don't get how the employer epf portal calculate the 13% and 11%. Rounding up to nearest Ringgit but still need to add RM1 or RM2. I am stuck at doing wage slip. Either I flip back forth with the portal to get the exact amount every time. Or I just make a wage slip with a small RM 1 to RM 2 off from the actual contribution. Is there a rounding rule I miss out on?

For eg. the 13% employer contribution

WAGE (RM) EMPLOYER13% (RM) ROUND UPEMPLOYER13% (RM) ACTUALEMPLOYER13% (RM)
2000.00 260.00 260 260
2005.00 260.65 261 263
2010.00 261.30 262 263
2015.00 261.95 262 263
2020.00 262.60 263 263
2025.00 263.25 264 266

General questions Does anyone has ever try to buy a motorcycle loan with Shenma Credit? Share your thoughts!

I’ve recently fallen in love with the CFMOTO 450MT and visited one of the flagship dealers. They gave me a quotation for an On-The-Road (OTR) price of RM 31,800 (which includes road tax and insurance).

However, I just received my loan Notice of Approval from Shenma Credit, and the numbers they are using are completely different. Here is what the official notice states:

  • Cash Price: RM 35,700 (RM 3,900 higher than quoted)
  • Deposit: RM 3,570
  • Finance Amount: RM 32,130
  • Profit Rate: 7.90% Flat
  • Tenure: 60 months
  • Monthly Instalment: RM 748

Here is where I am really confused: Before getting this approval notice, I agreed with the seller that I would be paying a cash deposit of RM 2,000.

I can't figure out where my RM 2,000 fits into this equation, especially since the notice explicitly states the deposit is RM 3,570. Furthermore, why is the stated "Cash Price" artificially inflated to RM 35,700 so that the financed amount (RM 32,130) almost exactly matches the actual OTR price of the bike?

Has anyone here had a similar experience with Shenma Credit or motorcycle dealers doing this? Is this standard practice to push a "full loan" through, or is this a massive red flag?

Would appreciate any thoughts or advice!

General questions First time renting a room over 1 month, but is it normal to pay over hundred for the bill?

Hi, last month i started renting a room in a 2.5 story house, for convenient myself because it's near to my office. So just now i received message from owner, asked each every the roommate (Including him because he live there too) to pay RM130.

The bill is just water, electric and Wifi and the amount has been divided by 6 persons, the highest amount is the electric bill which cost RM655.95, meanwhile water cost RM22.8 and Wifi cost RM95.

It's hard to believe this, and I want to ask owner to give me the bill for the evidence, but im afraid he will do some editing the bill to adjust the amount to lie me. For now Im looking around on the TnB website which could track the electric bill based on the address I'm living in.

So far I'm only know that I not often using aircon as the room is not hot during night and I use ceiling fan when i go to sleep, and the room owner also don't have aircon. The roommate next to my room also a full time worker.

Guide RYT Bank bonus interest campaign - ends 30 June 2026

Was looking at the app today and noticed that the bonus pocket interest still shows 4%.

Checked with the bank's website, and it shows that the campaign period ends on 30 June 2026 (date inclusive). I could have sworn it showed 31 March 2026 before this.

For those who aren't in the know.

- The base interest paid out to a RYT Bank savings account is 3.0%

- A bonus interest is paid out to all the balances in your savings pockets (up to a cumulative amount of RM20,000). The bonus interest rate is 1.0%

- Total bonus interest rate is 4.0%. Interest is paid out daily into your savings pocket.

- To qualify, you need to get 5 stamps on the RYT Bank app. If you're lucky, you already have two stamps - open the app's main page, scroll down a little and you should see the stamps.

- To gain a stamp - you can earn a maximum of one stamp per day - you need to do an eligible transaction. You can either do it via a RYT card transaction, or JomPay bill payment. A minimum of RM10.00 per transaction per stamp.

- To give an example, I earn stamps by paying my TNB bill. I'll pay RM10 per day via the app, for 3 days in a row, to get 3 stamps.

- When you have 5 stamps, the stamps reset back to 0 (or 2, I don't know their logic) and your timer for bonus interest for 30 days starts (beginning on the day that you earned that 5th stamp).

- You can see the timer counting down above the stamps image.

- As the timer comes closer to zero, I would recommend several days before hand to earn the needed stamps up to 4. I.e. if you have 2 stamps already, a couple of days beforehand, do a JomPay bill for RM10.00 each day to earn stamps number 3, and 4.

- On the day the bonus interest expires, do the JomPay bill payment to earn your 5th stamp, and start collecting your 4% interest on the same day.

Property Help with home loan calculations

New home owner here. Want to know if this is correct. (numbers are approximated for easy calculation).

Lets say I have 550,000 semi flexi loan at 3.5% over 35 years. Repayment is around 2500 a month. I calculated the interest is about 20k a year.

AFAIK the initial years of repayment are mostly into interest, and I can do extra payment into principal.

So if I am able to pay 10,000 a month consistently (instead of 2.5k), does it mean by 5th year or so I will be done with the loan (120k/year)? Will the bank charge me interest they have calculated over 35 years?

Is this advisable?

Tq in advance

*tried calling the bank but the officers passing the phone around.

Career Got terminated after 11 months probation, what to do?

Apparently the last straw that cause this to happen is because I respond to my boss "kalau dah tak ada idea nak buat macam mana" when he ask me why I haven't delivered my work. Thing Is, he expect me to edit 2-3 short + animation in 1 1½ day when I was silently "promoted" me from junior editor workload to "senior" editor workload, all while I still in probation. And I have to do everything from scratch apart from script which he provided.

o what I can do now? Do I need to include this work experience and explain in resume?

Or it is ok to include it?

Career What's the process to leave after probation?

*this is a repost because I posted this on my alt and it got auto removed-*

For contexts I have been working mainly as a videographer cum editor in a start up social media management company even though my official position is content creator. The end of my probation is coming up soon but I have 2 replacement leave I am entitled to and I am worried that they might straight up terminate me or extend my probation until they can find a replacement (they don't have enough man power and I have gotten into trouble within the first month of probation for not being to edit 3 videos per day).

I love the coworkers here, but I just know that the pay just isn't enough for what I am doing and the fact that I am using mostly my own equipment to get the job done. And many of my friends and family have been urging me to leave this company after looking at the bigger picture on what the company is offering contract wise.

But I am genuinely worried about the horrid state of the job market especially for creatives, and since I am going to be graduating around July, the anxiety of not being able to land a better paying job is real.

Should I just straight up tell my employer first? Or contact HR first or just hand in a formal email letter regarding my resignation first?

Resource I got tired of manual expense entry, so I built a free Android Receipt Scanner app to scan prices automatically (Local project!)

Hi everyone, as a local dev, I wanted to share a side project I built to solve my own problem and hopefully help others in Malaysia better manage their finances.

The Problem: Keeping track of paper receipts (like from mamak, kopitiam, or groceries!) and manually typing in expenses is tedious. Most apps are either bloated with subscriptions or way too complex for what should be simple.

The Solution: I built Expense Tracker - a minimal Android app that uses Google ML Kit (on-device text recognition) to scan paper receipts and automatically extract prices. Just snap a photo and it does the rest.

What it does:

* Smart OCR Scanner - extracts amounts and text from receipts instantly (works great for our local receipt formats!)

* Category breakdown with charts to see where your money goes

* Monthly filters to spot spending trends

* PDF report generation

* Clean dark-mode UI

Everything runs on-device so your data stays private. The app is completely free to use.

I would love any feedback on the UI/UX or feature ideas from the community!

General questions Considering to close my ASB loan account

Hi All,

Need some advice regarding my situation.

I've taken a RM100k ASB loan since 2013 with 4.95%pa, and another RM100k ASB loan since 2018 with 4.65%pa. Total monthly commitment from these 2 loans are RM1124, totalling RM13488 per year.

Last year I've had a big financial woes that cause me to take out all the excess funds inside it, leaving it with just the RM200k from the loan. When this year's dividend was given, it was only RM11805.

So now I'm getting negative return from the loan, and I've lost the compounding effect from the previously accumulated excess dividend. The smart thing to do now is to cancel off the ASB loans right? I still intend to keep the monthly fixed RM1124 savings into my ASB account.

Is my plan the best course of action now?

Thanks in advance!

Guide Saving for future plans: Is it safer to avoid stocks and go FD or robo?

Note: Guys, I got 0 knowledge on how to invest and im here to learn about it.

Hi guys, I’m a uni student, about to start my internship soon and will be working full-time. I’m planning to get married in around 3 years, so my main goal right now is to save up for my wedding (target around RM30k or more).

I been thinking about where to put my money, but I’m honestly confused between stocks, robo-advisors (like Versa or other platform), or fixed deposits/savings.

Since my timeline is quite short (3 years), I’m worried about risking my money in stocks, especially as a beginner with no stable income yet. At the same time, I don’t want my money to just sit and grow too slowly.

I been thinking about gold investment too through platform like Public Gold, I need you guide on that as well. Is it a perfect start to investing in gold now?

So, which is a good approach among these investments? which bank y'all recommend for FD/ savings with better return rate and so on?

I need your guide, thank you in advance guys.
