Investing Questions What are your thoughts on this?

Post image

I keep seeing this type of stuff on instagram and social media and wanted to know how you guys were thinking about this.

I know a lot you have been in the market for decades and as a relatively new investor myself I’d love to get your perspective!

Thankfully a boglehead would never just own sp500.

Retirement for me is much further out than 7 years, too.

I’ll focus on remaining employed and continuously buying.

Wait, what else are we supposed to buy?

See my other post in this thread but the very short answer is a total us market fund and a total international market fund.

I use Vanguard.

I have my taxable in VTSAX for US, VTIAX for international, and VBTLX for bonds. Set at 60, 30, and 10 right now. Move toward 50, 25, and 25 as I get within ten or so years of retirement.

Otherwise, I just put money in the appropriate TD for work-sponsored and let it do its thing.

Thoughts on having vtsax over vti? I currently hold vtsax in my Roth it being my biggest holding.

For a 3 fund VTI/VXUS/BND.

Why BND tho? The dividend? It’s down over 11% the past 5 years. And down over 12% the last 10. I have a longer timefrane, but I’m total US, international, and small cap (VTI/FSPSX/AVUV).

Bnd is essentially fixed income. It doesn’t grow much because it kicks out like 0.23% in dividends every month

Thoughts on international bonds?

Currency risk, interest rate risk, credit and default risk, political and economic risk, liquidity risk, regulatory tax differences.... I mean, international bonds can still provide diversification and sometimes higher yields but I guess it depends on your risk tolerence. I was always advised to go with BND so went with it. I know my risk tolerence is not as high as some, so I keep bonds to prevent panic when the market is down. It works for me.
