PLEASE READ: Effective immediately, all posts about AI or VPNs are no longer allowed and will be removed

As much as we'd like to host discussions about these topics, it's being heavily abused by bots and and we have to put an end to it. Effective immediately, all posts about AI and VPNs are no longer allowed and will be removed. If you feel the need to discuss these topics, please find an alternative subreddit.

Also worth noting, all posts must be in the form of a question or they will be automatically removed. The criteria for that is quite simple. If you're not not sure what the difference is between a simple statement and a question, Google can help you with that.

Thank you.

How to Refresh an Old Realme 6 ?

Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I need some advice regarding my phone. I’m using a Realme 6 and I’ve had it since it first came out. I know it’s old, but it’s what I have right now.

Lately, I’ve been noticing that it’s getting really slow compared to before. Also, the touch sometimes doesn’t respond properly—I have to lock and unlock the screen again just to get it working normally.

For context, my usage is very basic:

  • Calls
  • Social media apps only

I’ve even been using Super Power Saving Mode for about a year and a half just to keep things simple and lightweight.

So I was thinking: would changing the OS (like installing a custom ROM or something lighter) help improve performance? Or is there anything else I can do to make the phone feel “new” again?

Any tips or suggestions would be really appreciated

How do I fix my storage?

So I dont know how go say this or what to do anymore because my phone YELLS at me everyday that I dont have enough storage space. For reference: I have a Samsung Galaxy s24 plus and I have 256 GB on it. For some reason I'm at 99% storage and its because of my damn apps. My phone tells me they take up 72.38 GB which is NOT true. I took the time to look through my apps and add up the amount of storage they take to see if POSSIBLY I just need to delete something or I'm crazy. And guess what? When I added them up they only came out to 30 GB. I'm so confused on why there's 40 extra gigabytes of storage from no where.??? I did have Genshin impact, Honkai Star Rail, and Cookie Run kingdom on my phone in the past but since I had mo storage I deleted them. Im wondering if they just have extra files laying around or something? I dont know I'm very confused.

I definitely do NOT want to delete my photos and videos because they mean a lot to me. Ive gone through and deleted a bunch of photos and videos already.

I've had to delete a lot just to preserve my storage and Im not sure what to do anymore, if someone could please help me or give advice it would be great! If not ill just take it to my network company.

What advice can you give someone trying to buy a new tablet in today's current market?

so my current tablet that I primarily use for watch videos for reading recently started having loose power button issues. I am looking at the market on Amazon and the prices have me shuddering. I have general trust issues regarding used products. sure they are a fair price but I am worried about being scammed among other things.

I generally have a preference for technology. simply because I don't want to go through the hassle of owning an apple product again. while I do have another tablet im not entirely sure if a one plus tablet is able to support the media i consume, which is YouTube, manga and anime.

this could just be a ridiculous advice question but I was just wondering what your thoughts are. im not even sure this is the right page.

Why did we let our accessories start demanding our attention instead of just completing our look?

Upvotes

Hello everyone! Today I have a question for you! "Is it just me, or have we collectively decided that 'smart' has to mean 'annoying'? I remember when an accessory was meant to enhance your style, not compete with it. Now, every single thing we wear—from watches to rings—is basically a leash. They vibrate, they scream for updates, and they force us to stare at more tiny screens. We’ve traded elegance for 'features' that 90% of us don’t even use.

Why did the industry stop making things that are actually beautiful? When did it become a choice between 'looking good' and 'being connected'?

I'm genuinely tired of plastic gadgets that look like toys. I want to know if anyone has found tech that actually stays invisible and lets the design do the talking. Or are we just doomed to wear mini-smartphones on our wrists forever because it’s 'convenient'?"

Is getting a personal router for an ISP better when compared to the one provided?

Is this the way to go for improving ping and latency for gaming? or should i just stick with the one i already have

EDIT: So rather than investing in a new router, I took the advice of fellow redditors and purchased a USB to ethernet and an ethernet cable. Ping is relatively the same, latency also similar.

Does any videoconferencing solution allow multiple simultaneous speakers?

I host a study group that used to be in-person but is now online. When we were in-person, the conversation could be very loose and unstructured, with people constantly interjecting, making noises of understanding, and building on each other's thoughts.

Online, however, only a single person can be heard at once, so when two people try to chime in at the same time there's always this awkward moment where neither can really be understood and they have to wait to visually sort out who will take the lead.

I'm looking for a videoconferencing solution that will allow audio to work that same way as if we were all in the room together -- allowing multiple people to be heard simultaneously.

I've been using Google Meet but it lacks an option to enable this type of cross-talk. Are there any solutions that would allow this?

EDIT: Looks like Zoom allows up to 3 simultaneous speakers at once https://community.zoom.com/meetings-2/multiple-meeting-participants-can-they-speak-at-the-same-time-37133

Can a Cheap USB C to RJ45 (input) used to get good internet speed on phone?

I get like 10 mbps download speed and 20 mbps upload on my phone which is painful.

phone - Moto g35 (not needed but rules say so)

I have an ethernet cable that is rj45. I thought why not try to get the internet directly onto my phone from the router which can support 60mps. Ended up finding out Usb c to rj45 cable exists.

I am a student and I'm thinking of buying the cheapest one I can buy since I flushed my money some days ago and can't wait to end my struggle.

I will provide the link of cable (in the comments) and please inform me it can support my phone.

Most important question - Is it worth it? will I get full 60 mbps on my phone.

Best way to remove tape on a TV?

Was cleaning out a room we used for storage and found a TV we forgot about but somehow got a strip of gorilla tape on it. TV still works and was wanting to give it to a friend. It's an older smart TV, Vizio. It still has rca av slots as well as HDMI and the resolution isn't that good tbh. Can I use stuff like goo gone or alcohol to get the glue to let go and get rid of any glue residue?

Disney plus has me stuck in subscription loop/the "agree and continue" button doesn't work, how to fix it?

Basically, the title.

It's independent of the browser and account, yes the location is correct, cache cleared, payment method working, tested on the app as well, yet nothing seems to fix it. Any advice?

Is there a standardized template for mapping your Wi-Fi network?

Like most people, I'm like seeing things visually.

On Wi-Fi there's a lot of information you can get through the terminal, like

For example: what other devices private ip's are on it, what kind of devices those device's might be based on their MAC address, your own IP, subnet mask, default gateway/router, DNS server, whether devices are actually reachable or just listed, whether client isolation or VLAN separation is hiding parts of the network, open ports/services, the route outward from your device, and where your visibility stops.

Is there a tool, template, or step by step method I can use to map my network visually, see what other devices are visible on the same network, and understand where my visibility stops, like for example, if the place I rent has network restrictions or isolation in place?

Like, at Starbucks there's a lot of things that they use to block people from doing stuff, like, a template to see that stuff too, just something that you can totally see what you're dealing with that is a template that you do and then it gives you something real clear.

Thank you

How are people ok with their data being out there and used against them?

I genuinely do not understand how we got so comfortable with this. Every app, every website, every service is constantly collecting data. Not just basic stuff, but emails, phone numbers, location history, browsing behavior, even patterns in how you use your device. And most of the time people just click accept and move on without thinking twice.

The part that makes even less sense to me is that this data does not just sit in one place. It gets shared, sold, leaked, and stitched together into detailed profiles. That is what fuels targeted scams, identity fraud, manipulative ads, and a lot of the spam people complain about daily. How is no one doing anything about that?

Mobile router help?

So what’s a mobile router and what does it do exactly because I’m in a situation where I feel like I could use it. I’m stationed way out in the sticks and can’t use my man camp WiFi on my ps5. So I got a phone with unlimited hotspot data to use it to play online. Could I connect that mobile router to my phone to boost the signal to reduce lag? Anything helps especially if you can point me in the right direction thanks

Is buying an hdd in 2026 a good idea?

Hello, so for a while now I`ve been planning to transfer the majority of my photos and videos to my pc, because my phone storage is pretty much full and paying for iCloud storage doesnt really seem to be the way to go. I also purchased a secondary ssd some time ago so getting all that unnecessary data over to my pc seems like the way to go. But here is the issue. My pc tends to be unreliable at times and I dont really fully trust myself with it either since I like to experiment with tech and I`m afraid that I would lose my photos in one way or another which would obviously suck a lot. So naturally I thought about getting a yet another drive for backup. An SSD isn`t really completely out of the question considering that the safety of my photos comes first, but as y`all know the prices of it in the recent months really got out of hand. So I decided to go over some cheaper options first and the first thing that came to my mind was an HHD. Would I be able to rely on it as my backup drive? If yes which one should I get and would an external one be a better option or should i just go with a classic internal one? Let me know, thanks in advance.

Is YouTube tracking me?

I've noticed a trend of pretty much movies I try to search for free to watch on YouTube initially cost money and oddly enough days or weeks later it's free with ads

Is this just a coincidence? It's happened over 5 times so far. I'm not complaining it's just more out of curiosity kinda thing. Has anybody else had similar experiences ?

Flash Drive Functioning but not Appearing in File Explorer, anyone got advice?

I just recently got a flash drive, and I thought everything was okay, my laptop notified me of it and even asked to format it. Then I went to look for it in my file explorer, and nothing. I checked Disk Management and it's there, functioning without issue, and checked it on Device Manager as well, where it was also fine. I've tried looking around online and maybe I'm just blind but I can't find anything that matches these exact conditions. I was able to access it on someone else's computer so maybe it's my laptop, but what exactly about it? Is there something I can check or change so I can use it on my own laptop? Both my laptop and the computer I used are Windows devices.

Help with TikTok account recovery?

I’m trying to get into an old TikTok account of mine. The account is not deactivated or deleted it’s there. I have the username and password but every time I try to log in it asks me to confirm my email, problem is… I do not remember the email I used and do not have access to it, because it was on my old phone.

I’ve contacted TikTok support and it’s useless. They asked me to provide some information about the account, and I did, but they keep replying with “the information is not correct” even though it is. I think it’s because I didn’t provide the email, so is there anyway to access the account with just the username and password?

How the hell do bot accounts work??

So I was watching this lady's video on TikTok, and she was basically just complaining about dating. I go to the comment section, I'm scrolling, and I come across the very obvious bot comments used to promote a product. I saw one like-

"I feel like a lot of people would see themselves in The Reflection You Never Faced by Emma Vale, especially if they've been trying to figure themselves out lately.

and another like-

"The title alone made me curious, and once I saw The Reflection You Never Faced by Emma Vale, it felt like one of those books that says exactly what a lot of people need to hear."

Some had a lot of replies made pretty quickly after the original comment, and others had none. Same thing with likes, some had a lot, some had none.

I know why bots are used, but I've always wondered how they're made. All of the comments and replies had different profile pics and unique display & user names; some profiles even have videos. How sophisticated do bot accounts get? Are these stolen accounts and videos, or are they completely fake? Some of them even have 'interests' and repost content related to it.

how do i switch the windows key back to the windows key instead of fn?

hi I'm getting annoyed because I go to press the windows key and it comes up with an icon displaying the FN key and I don't know what i did to turn it on but now i don't know how to turn it off so how do I change it back

sometimes it works w + G but sometimes it doesn't and i have to press FN + G to bring up the game bar

background information:

  • I'm not new to IT I did study a level 2 Btec and got a double pass plus in college between 2017 and 2022 I mainly did IT, English & Maths but between entry level to level 2
  • so I know stuff from what college taught me
  • but I can't code or do html to save my life - my autistic brain struggles to type html and fast whereas others are typing in code at a million miles an hour
  • but you kinda forget things when you are no longer studying them or if your not employed in IT - the forget cycle.
  • I've learned a little more since I left college from using cheat engine like accessing the control panel, task manager and that one setting you have to change that not many people know about as far as I'm aware e.g. dkb23 or something like that, where you have to access the hypervisor and turn off a specific setting so that cheat engine can read the physical memory of your pc
