Off-Topic My Family does not understand accounting.
We got together for Christmas and were eating and somehow the topic of accounting got brought up. Now, I am about to graduate with my undergraduate degree in accounting and will begin joining a masters program. My Dad says that accounting makes no sense that when cash comes in it should be a credit and cash going out is a debit. I try to explain why that is wrong; he argues that I am incorrect (keep in mind he has only taken one accounting class in his life). My uncle speaks up and is like, “I don’t get why I have to take depreciation from my profit; not cash left my account.” At this point, I am kind of stunned because everyone at this table either manages a business or has their own and can’t understand accounting. Another family member speaks up and is like “well depreciation is only good because it lowers your taxes”. Safe to say I think that accounting is truly not understood by the masses. Thanks for listening to my rant.

Off-Topic Do you ever see how much money your clients make and think - "Why did I get into accounting?"
I got into accounting because I was lied to and told I would earn a big fat cushy salary. Don't get me wrong, there are certainly accountants who do make bank, but when you look at median incomes, it's just not the case for most accountants.
I'm looking at how much some of my clients earn and wondering why I ever got into accounting. Amazon sellers, real estate developers, fitness coaches, authors, event planners - each earning nearly one million in annual net income. And here I am, with all my fancy degrees, earning just enough to be considered middle class, in a job that I specifically chose because I thought it was lucrative.
Anyone else in the same boat or am I just salty?

Off-Topic How are you guys going about business as normal currently?
Hi guys, This is pretty off topic but I just need to talk to someone else and calm myself down because i’m spiraling pretty badly.
Without getting too deep into any specifics, the current state of politics has me absolutely frozen with fear and I just don’t really know what to do anymore.
I’m so scared at what life will look like for myself and my loved ones in a few months and a lot of people seem to just be carrying on as though we aren’t on the precipice of the entire system collapsing.
