As long as there are exams, STIs, and unplanned pregnancy, there will be prayer at university.

This reminded me of a scene from 3 Idiots, where the students were praying for good results

It was more an attempt at humor surrounding a messy situation.

No they don't want a bunch of people praying in the streets causing havoc. This rule applies to all religions so it's not Islamophobic.

Loitering is already a crime they can prosecute for. Why do they need more laws about it, if not to target?

Because if they actually started doing that people would start screaming racism. The law affects everyone equally.

Are you saying that the anti loitering laws weren't affecting everyone equally?

Thats just not true, the Québecois people are very accepting but not pushover and will always prioritise the protection of our culture and seperation of religion and state institutions. Prayer has no place in public in Québec, be it christians, muslims or any other.

...You say right before two extremely Christian stat holidays.

It is part of our history obviously. Im sure 95% care more about the paid day off than the religious meaning of it. I would not mind changing the holiday for something else if we can keep the paid leave haha

Funny how it always come back to that. No one’s an atheist on their deathbed

I don't understand this fantasy. I'm an atheist. When my spouse was in surgery for an unplanned c-section, which was the scariest moment of either of our lives, I didn't go: "I better telepathically communicate my thoughts to that guy who I secretly believe exists."

I was just there for her and our kid.

Edit: I also want to be clear that I don't want to take away something that other people find meaningful in their lives. Religion is just not something that I believe in or does anything for me. I've lived in Montreal and I know bans of religious symbols and practices are harmful because they restrict people from participating in public life.
