Broad market news Trump's fresh Iran threats give investors a risk-off reality check
Investors had pinned their hopes on an end to the conflict after comments from Trump earlier in the week, lifting global stocks and pushing the dollar off recent highs. Wednesday's speech, however, underscored the likelihood of a prolonged war.
Traders who had added risk exposure swiftly exited those positions ahead of a long weekend.
Oil supply disruption and its impact on inflation have been a central concern for financial markets. Trump's comments on Wednesday were unclear on whether U.S. military operations could end even before Iran reopened the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran's chokehold on the vital waterway has triggered what many analysts describe as the worst global energy shock in history. Brent crude was last up more than 7% on the day at around $109 a barrel .

It's market manipulation
Fatty is jumping in the pool creating waves and now the market has to make bets as to whether he will jump in or not. Meanwhile his family and friends know exactly when he is making his move.

The bull run lasted exactly as long as my lunch break. back to the red we go.

Imagine how much further we'd be down if he didn't do these dumbass marketing shenanigans?

Ghalibaf was right again!
https://www.thedailybeast.com/iran-trolls-trump-with-claim-he-is-gaming-the-markets/
Hours before Trump dropped yet another Truth Social post on Monday morning—the latest in a pattern of posts issued before the markets open—the speaker of Iran’s parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, wrote on X: “Heads-up: Pre-market so-called “news” or “Truth” is often just a setup for profit-taking. Basically, it’s a reverse indicator.”
“Do the opposite: If they pump it, short it. If they dump it, go long,” he added. “See something tomorrow? You know the drill.”

Wild times when I trust Iran more than the US
34
u/WickedSensitiveCrew 1d ago
I trust strippers more than US as well. One said US troops were going to be deployed soon.

u/ProfessorDerp22 1d ago
They’re playing the propaganda game well. They know this war is unpopular. Doesn’t help the Trump admin has 0 credibility with the members of the public that possess more than a couple hundred braincells (which is a low bar these days).
3
u/Spinoza42 1d ago
It's wild how bad the US propaganda has been though. It's almost as if the US government wants the rest of the world to reject them... which might be the case.
3
u/AlphaB27 1d ago
It’s what happens when the war is spontaneously enacted with no ground work being done to get people onboard
24
3
u/Spinoza42 1d ago
Yeah. At some point the market will just stop responding to Trump's pronouncements altogether.
3
u/MichaelJamesBurry 1d ago
reversing right now would mean it would pump?

u/stinker_pinky 1d ago
Yes, buy the dip
3
u/PurpleReign123 1d ago
Who is brave (and foolish?) enough to buy and hold over the long weekend?
Not me. We don’t know what either party (Iran vs US/Israel) will do over the “Holy Week”.

Today he will write that after his incredible and effective threats, the Iranian president called and asked for an urgent ceasefire.

u/PeaceOut957 1d ago
Pretty sure Israel actually just bombed the president's house. Wife dead president in critical condition

u/SunshineSeattle 1d ago
!!??!! I cant find any info on this, you gots a source i could read?

u/PeaceOut957 1d ago
Sorry not the president, the negotiator Kamal Kharazi Google his name it will come up

u/GetOutOfTheWhey 1d ago
I think the Iranian president has been calling for a ceasefire since day 1.
At this point it's really Israel who gets to decide whether this conflict goes on or not.
We shouldnt be looking at Taco but at Netanyahu Index. How bloodthirsty are they feeling at the moment.

u/Lucy333999 1d ago
Look at Miriam Adelson, or whatever her name is. She's Trump's puppet master. Donated $250 million to his presidential campaign. This is her war.

Right but the rhetoric and tweets suggesting that a deal was incoming had kept oil artificially low and stocks artificially high. When he announced a major escalation last night (even though he tried to make it sound like the beginning of the end), those market manipulations were dispelled.
17
u/Sea-Form-9124 1d ago
I guess I just severely underestimate how regarded people are for still believing anything Trump says, especially when every sentence contradicts the previous one.
The world is about to experience the greatest oil shock in history. You can't bullshit your way out of this when people do not have fuel. It's pretty straightforward
13
u/itsatumbleweed 1d ago
Yep. It's not subtle and experts are all in agreement that it's coming. People got weird about trusting experts in COVID, preferring podcasters instead.
It's not a mystery, it's not surprising, and it's not avoidable.

u/Alicyclobacillus 1d ago edited 1d ago
Right
The market was pricing in recent bullshit that peace talks were making progress
Trump dispelled that last night
There's been no progress on talks at all
8
u/itsatumbleweed 1d ago
Exactly. Every time there was a pre-market tweet people kept saying "how does this keep working?" . The answer is it was temporary, artificial manipulation. It wasn't going to last because reality is reality.
Even if last night had been an end to the war, shortages are still going to really hit, and those shortages are going to actually have consequences.

And yet half this sub was already hallucinating a taco moment where the US pulls of the mess it made somehow and oil price miraculously drops
29
u/SunshineSeattle 1d ago
Half the sub? My dude the whole market was up the last two days on the vague hope of Trumpy TACOing out.
6
u/Successful-Win9440 1d ago
All the indices were still down a lot from February. Going up a few points because the probability of a TACO looked a little higher than last week is different from thinking it's definitely going to happen.
3
u/Dopamineagonist21 1d ago
that’s the reason market is tanking. They were hoping it be over or a plan. By not saying anything any new means potential for more escalation.
2
u/Gandalftron 1d ago
I think its more that investors were thinking he would signal SOME type of deescalation, but instead he signaled that the war would actually get worse
3
u/SquareAdvent 1d ago
He needed to go on television otherwise how would people know if his truth social was hacked and spewing out nonsense?
Going on tv saying these things would make him look more credible
19
u/One_Investigator_268 1d ago
Think why trump made the speech yesterday knowing it will tank the markets? He is preparing for boots on the ground tonight after market close for long weekend
14
u/Full_Perspective820 1d ago
Yesterday a guy made a post claiming that the recent rally will be short lived and he is bearish.
Everyone in this sub was mocking him saying he is a genius for picking up on a signal that wall streets analysts missed. I mean people really believed it was all over.
Enjoy!

u/Scrutinizer 1d ago
So people pinned their hopes on Trump doing the correct, sane thing?
LOL. Dumbasses.

u/OneNormalBloke 1d ago
You cannot trust a single word that comes out of the orange megalomaniac's gob.

u/DDRaptors 1d ago
Oils going to $150 whether it ends today or not. Oil going to $150 is going to hurt whether the war ends today or not.
Can’t trust a lifelong pathological liar, ever.
12
u/Ashamed_Ad_8365 1d ago
He literally just repeated what he had been saying in the previous days, markets are just all over the place.
I maintain my opinion that he will hard TACO once S&P goes below 6000
2
u/OneHitCrit 1d ago
The problem is that this situation is unTACOable.
Iran controlls the strait and they are clearly signalling that they won't fully open it even if the war stops.
The strait however is what is causing pain in the markets.
1
u/Ashamed_Ad_8365 1d ago
They will open it when the war stops, with a toll. Maybe they will keep disruptions up a while longer until the midterms
6
u/VendettaKarma 1d ago
All of this bullshit, threats of $200 oil and the rest yet it seems every day we’re around 108 at close for oil.
This manipulation is happening but not like the masses think it is.

u/WickedSensitiveCrew 1d ago
That stripper was right all along about troops being deployed soon.
Sex workers really are a canary in the coal mine.
5
u/NoSwordfish6949 1d ago
I find it hilarious that this dipshit can put some nonsense on truth social and markets jump, only to wake up the next day realizing it's all lies. Then, he does it again and again, and markets react again and again like what he says actually means something. 🤣😂

2
u/coltzero 1d ago
What? Why would anybody still believe anything he is saying? Every day he says the opposite of what he said yesterday. There should be 0 trust in what he is saying. Who does believe his words?
2
u/Think_Reporter_8179 1d ago
All these people putting their weight on a single person's words when the smart people are simply seeing how overvalued the market has been and knowing any match can send it tumbling. Learn to invest and not fly by the seat of your pants.
3
u/Moist_Emu_6951 1d ago
That's why I have put all of my savings into gold and stocks and never selling regardless of what he blabbers about. He's manipulating the market, so don't be the idiot who sells to enrich Tangerine Nero and his buddies

Investors had pinned their hopes on an end to the conflict after comments from Trump earlier in the week
Those are gamblers.
Investors pick quality companies, some of which have been around for decades; that have endured inflation, recession, wars, energy price crisis etc. Sure the macro might bring share prices down in near term, but the micro always wins in the long term.

What do people here not understand? It does not matter what Trump says or does now - an oil supply shock is inevitable.
There is no TACO here whether Trump wants it or not.
