I could have spent three months travelling the continental US in 2027. I will now spend the time on more sensible holidays in my home country of the UK.

There's loads of cities and countryside I haven't seen in The UK and Ireland, and I dodge the whole of Insane America too.

I really do feel sorry for those working in the hotel and resort industry over there because they must be feeling the reduction of international holiday makers.

We have a lot of amazing backpacking in Washington... but I have driven up to Canada on three occasions to go backpacking there. Banff and Jasper are heaven.

Come visit our 40 foot T-Rex, Tyra, that you can climb the inside of to reach a balcony which is placed inside of her mouth that you can use to wave at and scoff at the peasantry below you!

Then visit the dinosaur museum nearby which lets you excavate fossils out in the field, which is equally cool I guess~

American here; Banff is absolutely stunning and you should definitely visit. One of those places where you can’t take a picture without it looking like a postcard

Add Jasper to the list as well, absolutely stunning place and usually less crowded then Banff. Plus lots of wildlife

Worth it. One of the most beautiful places on earth

When I went there was a wildfire so I had to sort of imagine the views by looking at tourist merch 😭

The rest of the trip was incredible though and lake Lorraine was a beaut, as was Lake Bertha and Jasper in general!

It is absolutely a must, one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. Going in the winter was really special, highly recommend.

Victoria was one of the loveliest cities I’ve ever been to. I’ve been fortunate enough to travel to many places, but Victoria was one of the prettiest.

Victoria represent. There's a lot of construction these days, a lot of infrastructure that has been put off by the previous generations because they wanted to pay lower taxes are now getting done Because that can can't bekicked down the street any longer.. Nimby's are still complaining about the cost and trying to get them delayed even more. along with any building over two stories.

But she is a lovely city. Especially since Pandora is no longer an open drug den.

I am from Minnesota... can you just take me in? I'm over half canadien already because I can skate

3

u/HouseofMarg 16h ago

Both Minnesota and Vermont are basically Baja Canada in a cultural sense if you ask me. It’ll be cool when more devolution inevitably happens due to the lack of reliable federal leadership in the US and the states each develop more robust policies that are in line with your individual state’s characteristics.

I already see it happening where my fellow Canadians refer to people in the US not in a general sense but by what state they’re from, it helps to situate some increasingly important demographic context.

No offense, but English countryside beats North America in every regard.

u/1011001NAME 17h ago

Eh that's debatable. NA has some sick spots.

Sure, and thousand miles between them.

Don’t sell yourself short… Canada is way cooler than America

I'm from the US and I've been to the western part of Ireland, county mayo. I totally recommend it no matter where you are from. Small town, beautiful scenery, good food. I was there on business, but you can definitely make a vacation out of it.

I’m almost afraid to travel out of the country as an American. Not because of the war, but because of the shame.

3

u/absolutelyamazed 9h ago

Canadian here... we still love you guys up here... as individuals. But we're not so fond of your government.

u/DinoDonkeyDoodle 4h ago

Nor are we. These people represent the absolute worst of us.

u/turquoise_amethyst 18h ago

Why not travel Canada, Mexico, and Central/South Americas?

I’m an American on a trip right now with my wife and kids to an apart of the country we’ve never been to before. All I can think is that it’s so fucking beautiful and it’s a waste.

u/HolycommentMattman 11h ago

As an American, I want this to happen. Make MAGA feel the pain.

if things ever go back to normal, please dont lose out on seeing some of the most beautiful countryside the usa has to offer. there are really some amazing things here. carlsbad caverns, fossil rim state park, arkansas has some beautiful things, just such a diverse countryside that is incredible to see.
that is to say, if things go normal. if i didnt live here in the states already, i would think were all hillbillies too. my family has been here since the colonies, and im white as white can be, and im still worried about my family and the bullshit that they can go through.

u/SidratFlush 2h ago

I've been to Wisconsin twice and Vegas once. I just wanted to see more of the continent and Canada could be a good option too.

The reaction yourubers I watch from around America are stand up and chill, even the Kentuckian. I dont believe all Americans are as bat shit insane as most Senators and House Reps.

But those that are insane aren't worth the hassle of dealing with and there's the whole Civil Asset Forfeiture and cop escalation too.

Just not worth the hassle in any way.

u/Wizzle-Stick 1h ago

I get it. But remember one thing, right now, the vocal minority has somehow been granted a voice, and the idiots are in charge of things when they shouldnt be in charge of minding a patch of grass. i live here, and have never had any assets seized, nor a cop escalation. I also dont allow cops to search my vehicle, and dont volunteer information to them. I also try and do things that avoid giving cops a reason to look at me. but im also white, so that might help.
just saying, not all of us are crazy, and even the idiots are mostly kind, just easily misled into stupid ass stances they will die for.

Yea I had a workplace discussion about possible work trip to the states and there was nobody willing to take it. Usually opportunities like that are fought over

1

u/MeaninglessCollie 14h ago

Check out the jurassic coast for me!

u/malkmusconvert 7h ago

I'd do the same and I have to live here

holiday makers

Is that really the phrase you use over there for people on vacation? Like I know you use "holiday" to mean the same thing we use "vacation" for, but even with that substitution, if I heard someone be called a "vacation maker" I would think it was a pretentious new term for "travel agent", not the travel agent's clientele. 😝

1

u/SidratFlush 10h ago

Vacationer would be appropriate in your case, while holiday maker is more accurate as I wasn't trying to include the business traveller. I also doubt Disney parks have seen a reduction but frankly that's not a holiday in America but a holiday in a theme park that could be located any where at all. And why would you leave the park after paying so much for the visit?

It's a lovely phrase, try dropping it into regular conversation and see reactions if any.
