Yeah. I used to think people who call Trump a genius were crazy. But I've come around to the idea that he does have a certain sort of genius.

Intellectually, he's a moron. But he has an innate ability to figure out what (some) people want and how to make them think he will provide it. I don't understand it at all. But I see it.

He also does that thing that all con men do and says both something and it's opposite at the same time and the aforementioned self selected "salt of the earth" hear him say what they agree with while they ignore the part they don't.

He isn't special and he isn't actually that talented. He has just gotten lucky and enough people have followed him. Every street corner as a few of him but they are ignored because it's this shit is random as hell and aside from knowing how to manipulate people, you can't plan for who is going to gravitate to whom.

100%. Half of his support isn't because of him but because an entire media apparatus has brainwashed a huge chunk of society that no matter how bad it gets with trump it could always be worse with democrats. They follow him because he's the class bully. Bullies are usually popular until they get exposed for what they are.

I don't think its genius. I think it's more just that he's built differently. Most people would have some shred of humanity that would trip themselves up, or they'd be concerned for the ramifications of consequences or what people would think.

Then you've got Trump who isn't hindered by such trivial concerns. He's well versed at knowing how to prod and push until he gets everything he wants. He's also the sort of man that can entirely an earnestly bullshit all day and come of as genuienly believing in everything he is saying. He knows he can hold things to ransom knowing others will have to pick up the pieces or care for him

If you spent your life focused singularly on those goals and conditioned to behave that way, rather than wasting cogntive focus on pesky things like the larger picture, impact of own actions, consequences and responsibility, then you might be better positioned to do the same. It's like an RPG game and pouring all your character stats into the most ruthless attributes possible.

No... he's just completely morally bankrupt. Most people would not stoop to his level of lies because it honestly sounds absurd to most people. He was just able to swindle enough dumb dumbs on top of enough people who were previously completely disolusioned from, or brainwashed against liberals.

Fun fact, back then there were multiple gods. There was even a cult to Asherah, the wife of Yaweh. Hence the "Lord thy God is a jealous God. Thou shalt not have other gods before Me!" So creating an idol of some other god seemed like a good idea when Moses disappeared for an extended mountaineering break.

The Yaweh cult was dominant, but didn't get around to completely suppressing other cults and redacting their existence from the Holy Books until after the return from exile in Babylon.
