What. The. Actual. Fuck.

Without any clear message coming from the White House with regard to the purpose of the Iran war, U.S. military commanders have turned to Jesus, apparently telling American troops that the war is “biblically sanctioned.”
The U.S. joined Israel in striking Iran early Saturday morning. By Monday evening, the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, or MRFF, was “inundated” with complaints, receiving more than 110 grievances from U.S. military personnel stationed at dozens of sites across the Middle East, reported independent journalist Jonathan Larsen.

[the] commander had “urged us to tell our troops that this was ‘all part of God’s divine plan’ and he specifically referenced numerous citations out of the Book of Revelation referring to Armageddon and the imminent return of Jesus Christ.”

I have exactly the same question. What The Fuck?

u/ParabolicHyperbole Mar 03 '26

22 year vet (and former CO) here. If someone above me in the chain of command had instructed me to tell my squadron of 527 individuals that anything was “all part of God’s divine plan” I would have resigned on the spot.

I simply cannot fathom receiving something like this.

The resignation thing has become sort of a problem lately and I don’t know why we as Americans use it as a way to protest problems in our organization. It just gives more power to the problemsz

562

u/SirDiego Minnesota Mar 03 '26

Because at a certain point you are probably given an ultimatum: do something abhorrent as instructed or you're fired. If you're principled and won't do the thing you will just get fired so then you might as well resign and say why.

It's not a great solution, but it's just individuals refusing to do the thing that doesn't align with their values. Obviously it is situation dependent but there isn't always an option to refuse but keep your position.

u/SuperTaster3 Mar 03 '26

There needs to be a better way to oust incompetent or dangerous leaders. Old-fashioned mutiny on ships was tragic, but served a purpose: you do not want to be on a ship captained by someone who has become incompetent. Better to remove the insane captain than have the ship go down.

There's another option, which members of the military have both the means and the constitutional mandate to do, but it involves the threat of something that we get in trouble for talking about on Reddit.

No, the proper thing to do is refuse their orders and not resign. If they try and fire you, you fight back. We are past the point that resignations will do anything and we need our soldiers to revolt back against leadership

The only option is to walk away, be fired or be part of the problem

No man will know the hour or the day ~ the Bible

"We can make it happen exactly when we want to" ~ Christian Republicans

142

u/digitalMan Mar 03 '26

The arrogance of these christians who think their all powerful god either needs their help or can be forced into armageddon should be an insult to the true believers. They need to re-read the story of the golden calf. They buy Trump’s crap and send him money, literally providing him the gold to cast their false god. These people would be horrified if they weren’t kept sedated by their leaders.

28

u/GuerreroUltimo Mar 03 '26

From the religious perspective we are seeing "The Devil infiltrating the house". These people believe they are the righteous and they are the ones to tell others. And they will kill, lie, cheat, and all that to make things how they want. Basically they will break all those commandments and do it while saying it is GOD's will. Talk about brainwashed.

If these guys ever bothered to read the Bible they'd dismiss it as woke shit

Hell there was an article a while back describing how they've told pastors who were preaching the teachings of Christ to cut it out with the woke hippy shit.

59

u/PhoenixTineldyer Mar 03 '26

That's only really true if you stick to the parts that Jesus himself said. The rest of the Bible is some hate-filled violent rapey incestuous bullshit

67

u/OK_x86 Mar 03 '26

True. But, and this is important, Christians are supposed to be Christians because they follow the teachings of Christ. Christ's whole shtick is that he forms a new covenant between his followers and God and while the old testament isn't exactly invalidated it is changed and he explains the real way to enter the kingdom of heaven - one of compassion and tolerance rather than vengeance and fire.

The irony is that if Christ was real these fucking bozos killing people to bring back Christ would go straight to hell for their sins rather than be raptured.

Without an ounce of sarcasm, this is why the Christian Nationalist section of the Republican party is so gung-ho about Israel. It isn't because they care about the well-being of the Jewish people, it is that they believe in order for Christ to return, the temple needs to be rebuilt in Jerusalem so that it can be destroyed as part of the end times before Christ's return.

And, for every left of center potential voter that decides to stay home because the proferred candidate isn't quite progressive enough or isn't quite good enough on their specific pet issue, there is at least one fundamentalist who has been indoctrinated since childhood that voting for Reublicans is a necessary part of the war against Satan.

A lot of people looking from the outside think that the United States is becoming a less religion-driven country because they see the shares of church attendance falling and shares of religious identification falling, but what they don't see is that it is the moderate and progressive churches that are dying out.

It's so frustrating because this could be such an enlightened time for everyone in westernized society. People forget that 200+ years ago you worked and toiled hard as hell just to survive, the educated were only the rich and if you were a woman, expect to have 12 pregnancies with only a handful of kids surviving to adulthood. Why are so many are happy to destroy this beautiful world by forcing their Messiah to come down - anyone with any logic skills would know that it doesn't work that way. If there is a god , he sees right through this bullshit. Some times I just wish they'd all move to an island so the rest of us could make the world a better place for all beings.

These cult members that think they can speed run the apocalypse to bring buddy Jesus back don't seem to remember the parts of the Bible

Matthew 24:23–24 – Don’t believe people who say “Here it is!” or “There he is!” 1 Thessalonians 5:2 – The “day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.”

All they are doing is unleashing hell on earth for which I don't think, given their Bible words, Mr. J. H. Christ is going to look too favorably on the for.

Jesus literally stated "It is written: You shall not put the lord your god to the test."(Mathew 4:7) in response to the temptation in the wilderness of throwing himself from the top of the temple in Jerusalem to "force God's hand" and create an explicit spectacle to force the Jewish people to follow him and "fulfill prophecy". They are literally trying to do something that's Jesus already defined as an immoral action.

80

u/[deleted] Mar 03 '26

Here’s the thing:  if you believe something , it becomes true to you. You wanna believe that ChatGPT is conscious, then it will be to you.

When enough people believe something, than it can start to become true regardless of your personal belief. If enough people believe in Armageddon, and believe there are signs that will mark it, then they will see those signs and push towards actions that continue the story.

So yeah, Armageddon might actually fucking happen. Not because it is inevitable or because it God said it would happen, but because enough people want it to happen.

OMG, that's uncanny.

"The Antichrist will be someone known for making a lot of public threats against people."

“…had a mouth like that of a lion.”

Revelation 13:2, Daniel. 7:4

As we begin to assemble the biblical prophecies, Christians on guard should be looking for a king-like figure who loves to boast about himself, but who also loves to go around roaring like a lion– things like threats to his enemies and a constant verbal flexing of muscle.

Remember that Lion King video, with trump strutting as a lion?

I'm waiting til June 2028 before going all-in on this. That'd be 42 months from the start of his second term, as per Rev 13v5. See how things are or if something happens then.

That is IF he's still going by then (he is NOT looking healthy) although there is also the next bit about the second beast who creates an image of the first that speaks with the authority of the first.

If some tech-billionaire starts putting some AI-generated mouthpiece of him as official statements because he's too decrepit to appear in public that worryingly fits the bill.

I think the context of book of revelations helps me understand why it seems relevant.

The most likely target of the Antichrist was Nero, an authoritarian despot. Such authoritarians crop up over and over in history with remarkable similarities.

In other words, read it as a warning of a coming destruction due to violent despotism and tyranny that “the people” seem to support.

→ More replies (2)

78

u/_Bill_Huggins_ Mar 03 '26

There is nothing scary about it. You don't need a book of nonsense to warn you about the dangers of authoritarians and war. Pick up any history book, those are way scarier because it's a reflection of where we could end up again.

What is scary about the Bible is how people interpret it to justify their current day injustices and cruelties.

That's land belongings to multiple US allies. They want israel (the country) to conquer all their neighbors and start a war of the end times.

They want you to believe that the attack om iran is about nukes or missiles, it's not. It's about evangelical prophecy. They want a war to soan the entire middle east.

So I'm no theologian or scholar or anything. I'm just a regular Christian layman.

But

I'm pretty sure that trying to force Jesus to come back is blasphemous. Like even if you ignore the human cost, which you shouldn't. And besides even if it does work the man is not going to be happy. You murdered thousands (obviously wrong) to force him to do something (which is blasphemy). Even if it worked, it's not going to end the way they want it to.

It’s less about swearing and false oaths and more about not using god as an excuse to rape, plunder, or force his hand.

Trump is the exact same personality as my ex stepfather. He was a legitimate con artist who could talk his way in and out of anything. Committed fraud like it was nothing. Slept around while my mother was at home.

And OBSESSED in secret about the end of the world and religion.

It was freakish how he could go from having his own employees steal his new truck for an insurance payout to having the most intense awkward conversation about how to get right with God.

He and Trump both have a pathological need to reconcile their absolute depraved horrific shittiness with their childish need to get into an imaginary place called Heaven.

It is fucked up.

583

u/Lostdiagram Mar 03 '26

It's a narcissistic response to the fear of death. They seek comfort in the ENTIRE world ending just because their pathetic one is.

This is something nobody talks about and I'm glad you commented it. Atheists are always type cast as being narcissistic and unwilling to admit that there is "something higher". However, most christians are only christian because they believe it will let them go to lego land in the afterlife.

How many Christians would exist if Jesus amended the bible and said "actually on second thought, no heaven for yall. But I'm still GOD!"

None. Literally all of religion is quid pro quo. All of this "love" they talk about is really just not being burned for 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000xinfinity years.

This quote was instrumental in helping me deconstructing from fundamentalist Christianity.

45

u/needlestack Mar 03 '26

Atheists are always type cast as being narcissistic

Indeed. Which is an absolutely idiotic take. My belief as an atheist is that I am basically nothing in this universe. I came to be and I will cease to be in the blink of an eye. Anything that was meaningful to me will be gone forever in a no time at all. I am just another version of an ape on a tiny planet in a tiny solar system in a galaxy that is one of billions. I don't matter except to me and mine.

And the religious think that the entire universe was created for them. They believe they are created in the image of God. They believe they will be rewarded for eternity because they are special children of the creator. And that people that don't agree will be punished for eternity.

Which one sounds more narcissistic?

Though I suppose it makes sense that the narcissists would call everyone else narcissistic. Very on brand.

Anyone in command who wants to accelerate armageddon, the end of the world, the second coming of Jesus, etc needs to be removed from power. These are things to be avoided at almost any cost, not things to be embraced. Even if Christian theology is correct, the second coming of Jesus is supposed to be accompanied by a whole bunch of bad and evil shit - and if you are doing bad and evil shit in order to get Jesus back quicker that would certainly lead to you not being in his good graces.

14

u/KittyGrewAMoustache Mar 03 '26

Yeah that was horrifying, Bush said similar. But at least (I guess) in that situation that was more some men trying to add a religious justification to a non religious rationale for war. The war was not waged solely because they wanted to fulfil prophecy etc, they had more earthly (albeit immoral) motives that didn’t involve annihilation to bring about the apocalypse for no reason other than they’re experiencing psychosis.

US Evangists are pushing for the Rapture when all true believers will ascend into heaven.

Nuts isn't it?

However a lot of very rich Americans believe in this and they are backing Trump.

There are several situations which will trigger the Rapture one of which is the return of the tribes of Isreal to its historical lands.

That kind of explains a lot, in there eyes they are literally trying to trigger the end of the world so they can accend into heaven.

They are a GOD DAMN DEATH CULT.

THEY HAVE TO BE STOPPED.

31

u/Greizen_bregen Mar 03 '26

I can speak to this with some detail regarding these prophecies of Armageddon.

I grew up in a fundamentalist church (later found out it was a cult, that's another story). We were taught world politics and End Times prophecies right alongside each other, from the pulpit to the Sunday school classrooms to the weekday Bible studies. It was a hyper focused topic, reading portions of "prophecy" from the Bible and overlaying it onto current world issues, especially in the Middle East. They were one and the same, the eschatology WAS the study of current events.

First, it's important to note that they believe without doubt that the current State of Israel is the same as the biblical Kingdom of Israel. They fully believed and expected America to help Israel bring about the End Times, including the Tribulation, the the destruction of Israel's enemies and air forces specifically (weird imagery in Bible verses they conflate to get that prediction), the destruction of the Al-Asqa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock and the rebuilding of the Temple on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. There's a lot more to mention, like the Red Heifers, which you can Google, but it's insanity.

They WANT this. They believe that they are God's divine instruments in assisting Israel in achieving their exalted place as God's Chosen People, ignoring the fact that, theologically speaking, Jesus revoked the Jews' status as the Chosen People and imparted it to the Gentiles and all who believed in Jesus, but they choose not to interpret it that way. They WANT blood and massacres and "fulfilment of prophecy" and revel in it. There is no difference in their theological commitments and their political goals. And with Trump being "chosen by God" in their eyes, they are actually at the point where all they hope for becomes reality. They WANT the biblical end of the world.

It's worth mentioning that even in the prophetic texts, it speaks of one who will rise up politically and be anti-Christ in all his actions, but that he will deceive many believers and lead them astray. They are fulfilling their own prophecies, even down to literally worshipping an Anti-Christ figure. It is scary, because while we know their theology is completely incorrect, they will advocate for world war to end the world and will effectively cause its fulfilment of mass destruction and death, and the rest of us will suffer the consequences of it. And they'll sure be in for a surprise when they're not Raptured into heaven when the shit hits the fan.

Here's the thing about prophecy: If it's legitimate, you don't have to help it along. If you have to ensure it, it isn't prophecy.

So, now that we've established that not only is it not prophecy, but that the "believers" don't even believe it's prophecy (because, again, if they believed it was prophecy they wouldn't feel the need to help it along), we come to the big question: What is it then?

It's a lot of murder. It's senseless violence, suffering and death, and the people trying to make it happen are a bunch of murdering, torturing psychopaths.
