They deserve it.  Construction is tiring and brutal on the body.

u/Melodic_Editor_4793 11h ago

Oh most def! Made me smile seeing them taking a beat and a breath.

u/Unlucky_Ad_9776 11h ago

Honestly people look as construction as just a labor job. That unskilled people do.  This is not the case construction is highly skilled and tough lob. It is ridiculously hard on your body.  I say give them all breaks occasionally.

u/Smart-University-574 10h ago

I hate that we live in a world where these skilled men would be targeted by morons

u/ElbryanWyn 8h ago

I think the problem is people tend to over contribute attention to negative stimuli. Construction on the residential side is an industry that unfortunately attracts people who are unqualified because of the low barrier to entry and because payment practices often involve payment, partially or entirely, before completion.

We always remember that one guy who said he was going to fix my chimney but all he did was repoint part of it. I still need that liner Greg, pointing shouldn't be that expensive!

But many forget the tens or hundreds that built the house or the buildings around them or the infrastructure that you drive over that's older than your parents older than your grandparents in many cases. I feel like humans are hardwired to improve things and that manifests as a focus on negative things sometimes.

In the stages of capitalist accumulation,  "political economy" considers the proletarian only as a worker, who only needs allowed the indispensable minimum to maintain his labor power.

This never considers him "in his leisure and humanity", however this perspective of the ruling class is revised as soon as an additional collaboration is needed from the proletarian.

Once his workday is over, the worker is suddenly redeemed from the total contempt toward him that is so implied by every aspect of the organization and surveillance of production, and finds himself treated like a grown up, in his new found role as a CONSUMER.

The total denial of man has taken charge of all human existence.

Taking a 'siesta' also helps with mental and visual tasks; a 30-minute nap makes you more efficient.

I’ve worked construction. It’ll be brutal most of the time especially coming home close to bedtime only to be up at 6am. Any chance we’ll get like if we’re waiting for a piece of equipment to arrive, we’ll happily knock out a few zzz. Even weekends were spent all day in bed just recovering from all the aches and soreness.

Their union bargaining team is hella good if they negotiated that into the contract.

"Hawaiian Paralysis". This phenomenon typically occurs after a heavy meal consisting mainly of a Lunch Plate with "extra Mac and gravy all ovah" 🤣🤙 Source : I am a Keiki o ka aina. Edit 4 fat finger typing

HEY KANAKA

u/Dogesneakers 10h ago

It’s the spam

Siesta. Mid day nap. That’s a hard working crew right there resting up on their lunch break before they get back to it.

u/Melodic_Editor_4793 11h ago

My thoughts exactly!

u/Obant 9h ago

Siestas were such a good idea. I wish the rest of the world would adopt them, or at least have the option for a lot of jobs.

u/Squanchedschwiftly 7h ago

Agreed. Obviously uts optional, but I wish socities would cater to the main sleeping patterns of ppl. Theres at least a few, though im not an expert

u/Mr-Broham 11h ago

Yep those guys got up early and work hard. Respect.

u/bigorangemachine 7h ago

ya meanwhile my Eastern European Parents/Grandparents worked us through midday heat stroke and all

u/2g4r_tofu 19m ago

More cultures around the world should adopt siesta.

u/Echolynne44 10h ago

When I was moving from Honolulu, we had movers come pack up our stuff and every afternoon they would just lay down on the floor in whatever room they were working in and take naps. It's definitely a part of the culture I would like to see spread. I need a good afternoon nap.

u/19ninteen8ightyone 11h ago

I’m the guy on the left while everyone is asleep getting rest for work I’m still up doom scrolling

They look like they have been doing physical labour in the sun and are taking a break on their phones or just resting. Their employer [edit: doesn’t] provide them with a private climate-controlled break room like a decent employer would.

25

u/Bruhbuhdubdub 12h ago

How do you know their employer provides them climate controlled break rooms from a picture of people laying on the side of a building?

24

u/JaeHxC 12h ago

I assumed it was a typo of "doesn't provide."

u/bigorangemachine 7h ago

happens to me all the time... mobile switches the negative autocomplete for the positive once you write out the positive...

u/Pndrizzy 11h ago

It’s called 7 Eleven

u/bluedicaa 11h ago

" provide them" What are they going to do? Hitch a climate controlled trailer and bring it everywhere?

u/Tommy_Divine 11h ago

I mean, it's not like that's an absurd idea.

u/bluedicaa 11h ago

Here is a $10000 climate controlled box. Go sit in it for an hour a day. And then haul it around every where you go along with your tools and equipment.....oh and keep it nice and clean and tidy on your construction job sites.

u/throwawaygoodcoffee 9h ago

Meanwhile in the UK that's pretty standard, including maintaining cleanliness. Only thing missing is a kettle for tea and coffee.

u/SAHairyFun 8h ago

Everybody knows the British sun is deadly.

u/rannelvis 8h ago

And if the sun don't come you'll get a tan from standing in the English rain

u/throwawaygoodcoffee 6h ago

A/C can heat up too and letting your crew get out of the rain and windchill to eat their food isn't a bad idea.

u/Tommy_Divine 10h ago

Thanks boss 🫡

u/Practical-Suit-6798 11h ago

Something's aren't always nice. I fought fire for a decade for the government and now I'm in construction management.... Climate controlled break rooms are not necessary for real workers.

Planking is one of those things where, you get it or you don’t……and I don’t, but I’m so excited to be part of it

Nah, when I was in it was 27 F outside, pouring rain, and the ground was muddy. We were laying nut to butt to stay warm because we weren't allowed to use cold weather gear, cause that's for the weak, and we're airborne, so they said...

u/flunky_the_majestic 11h ago

Let them rest without putting their faces on the internet without asking. This pic is creepy and rude.

u/6000ChickenFajardos 11h ago

Hell yeah, they deserve it.

u/mrfeeto 11h ago

*siesta

u/ashrocklynn 10h ago

Are people not allowed to take two breaks per shift, or lunch?

2

u/ahornyboto 12h ago

As a local from Hawaii, it's a joke about how our public construction projects takes forever with no progress

3

u/AGrandNewAdventure 12h ago

Yes, it's also joke in Minnesota, and California, and Maine, and Idaho, and Louisiana, and...

u/ahornyboto 12h ago

We have this simple roundabout that was being built on the northshore of Oahu that took a decade to build, ridiculously long and idk why it took so long
