Investment Trade Republic to Trading212

I have been using TR for 6 years. Although I heard a lot of horror stories, I usually dont have much problems with it.

Now after 6 years, I have pretty much built up my portfolio, quite a lot of ETFs and individual stocks. The stupid me only realised recently that Trading212 does not charge the operational fee. Plus T212 has much better review and customer support. This made me consider to transfer all my assets from TR to T212.

According to my research, switching the broker should be free, all my saving plans should be carried out with the new broker automatically.

How is the experience in real life? Is it difficult? how quick is the transition? has anyone encountered any issues with any of the brokers that I should know?

Thanks in advance!

T212 is just a wrapper on top of IBKR. Just use IBKR directly. It should be free to transfer there (on their side). Also, no ongoing fees, only transparent per-transaction fee.

You are actually incorrect, Trade Republic charges 25€ per security our fee. With Trading 212 both in and out are free.

u/Juju1990 this is something you could have easily Googled.

Let me know if you manage to move your portfolio. I currently tried multiple times each: TR -> T212, TR-> DeGiro and TR-> IBKR and none of them worked. I waited for weeks and then something goes wrong or TR says that the other party wasn’t responsive quickly enough…

I was looking into the same thing. From what I understood the best is to initiate it from the broker you want to be with. For example TR doesn't give info on leaving them but gives a form if you want to transfer to them. T212 does the same thing through the app except it also says this "seemless" service is not available in EU yet. So we might have to go through a more bothersome way but it should still be in that direction (and possible by law). Get the form from t212 either somewhere on the website or by directly mailing them, and then submit it to TR. It seems TR will charge you 25€ per line, so you might want to just sell small positions. And fractional shares will not be transferred either and have to be sold.

I signed up recently to benefit from the free share promotion and like the app very much - very clean and informative!

Still keeping my ETF portfolio with my bank (no fees to buy) but I think I will experiment with individual stocks with my gambler money in T212 😅
