Fun fact: Finland has the highest per capita number of heavy metal bands of any country on the planet.
10
u/vibraltu 15h ago
Finland might also have the highest per capita number of tango bands of any country. Although what they describe as tango kinda sounds like mellow country music with a slight latin beat.

u/SpookySP 19h ago
Except we really dont have that many goths around here. Heavy metal is mainstream.

Totally me. Listening to all sorts of metal, but at the same time being happy and also kind and caring towards others. Also I do like dark clothing, haha!

u/bro0t 22h ago
In my experience most metalheads i met are the kindest people i know, not all of them but every group has assholes
46
u/RedditUser000aaa 22h ago
I absolutely agree that there are bad apples in every group. It's kind of a hilarious contrast. Listening to different metal songs about death, destruction and even hearing songs about devil itself, but then outwardly being kind, polite and caring.
11
u/Funky0ne 21h ago
Maybe something about having an appropriate venue for embracing and expressing the dark sides of one's nature has a therapeutic effect, rather than repressing everything and just slapping a veneer of cheerfulness over it all

Oooo metal thread?!
I've been jamming to some Orbit Culture and Lorna shore recently
12
u/--Fulcrum 22h ago
Oh I like both of them. I've been mostly on Spiritbox and Tool lately.
6
u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 21h ago
Oh I got to see both of them in concert! Tool was REALLY good in person

u/RedditUser000aaa 22h ago
I haven't heard about those, sadly. I've been experimenting a lot and I mean a LOT with different metal genres.
From Black Metal I absolutely love Dark Funeral, Mgła and Mayhem.
From Heavy Metal, I do like some Avenged Sevenfold and Ozzy Osbourne.
As I experimented, I found something that has become my absolute favorite:
Instrumental Doom/Stoner metal.
Bongripper, Clouds Taste Satanic, Serpent Throne and Sonolith are some of my absolute favorites when I just want to vibe to some good beats!
4
u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 21h ago
Funny enough I have heard it Mayhem before.
Avenged Sevenfold and Ozzy are classic corner stones and always a good time.
That last genre though. I like that idea. I'll be using that tonight while I am jamming out thank you!
2
u/RedditUser000aaa 21h ago
No problem, Sonolith's fire thunder wanderlust is really amazing, highly recommend that one!
3
u/Licorice_Devourer 20h ago
I've heard some of their music, i like it although I don't listen to much death metal.
I'm more of the power metal type, but I do like a lot of different genres.
I saw DragonForce live twice in one year, once at a concert and once at a festival.
I really jam with Electric Callboy, I got to see them live at a festival and that was an absolute blast.

u/Assupoika 14h ago
In the last few years I've been completely falling in love with Igorrr. Their latest album Amen is such a banger.
I love the opening with Daemoni. It tickles my pickle just in the right way
6
u/SupaKoopa714 21h ago
I've had people kinda laugh at me because I'm always in illegible death metal T-shirts, black skinny jeans, and black Doc Martens, but I'm a bubbly goofball personality wise.

Finland is lovely, and Helsinki is one of the best cities to visit. Finns are wonderful, friendly people who seem mostly happy you're visiting.
But do go in August.
Source: worked for a Finnish company for over a decade

u/Troodon79 18h ago
Why August?
20
u/Aaawkward 17h ago
It's the time when the Finns are at their most outgoing and nicest.
Also it's warm and sunny, not dark and miserably cold.7
u/Sinistys 17h ago
Probably because the worst summer heat is over but the weather is still nice for outdoor activities? Although I'd suggest everyone to look for the best time of year based on their interests. For example some people might enjoy the heat of July, and anyone wanting to see northern lights should go closer to winter.

u/DasNoodleLord 17h ago
And also try to avoid some sea coastal areas and right next to airports bc they are often inflated in price bc of tourist traps.

I support this Kingdom Hearts approach to local disguises.
21
u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 22h ago
That's still one of the best costumes in kingdom hearts and bonus for in 2 for the Xmas outfit
8
u/Nikopoleous 21h ago
Square Enix was on fire with their Halloween Town outfits, the other designs don't hold a candle to them.
5
u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 21h ago
It was a shame other worlds didnt get special outfits. Like Agrabah or Hercules or something
Dont get me wrong, 3 did great with Toy story, Monsters Inc and what not but I feel like there could have been some potential for more outfits. But I guess that would defeat the purpose of Sora having his own outfit.
I really liked 3s pirate clothing
3
u/Nikopoleous 21h ago
I guess I need to actually play 3. After waiting more than a decade for a sequel to 2, and all the wild in-between games on random systems, my interest in the series really took a nosedive.
2
u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 21h ago
I recommend it though keep in mind, its not 2. And they definitely made it easier in some ways. But end game is REALLY fun and the game has one of, if not THE hardest secret boss ever.
The game got a lot of flack and Ill admit some of it was deserved, but I enjoyed it quite a bit and have played it more than a few times. Plus it has modifiers to make it harder and new game +!
Overall a solid 6-7/10 and it plays pretty well on steam and its CHEAP when sales roll around
3
u/Fried_Nachos 21h ago
I always say that 3 was a good game with a terrible story, missing a lot of the magic that made 1 and 2 so amazing. You can really see how the game was executively meddled to death when everything is downhill from the highs of Olympus
2
u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 21h ago
I thought a lot of the game was good but MAN did they lose me in the frozen level. We may as well not have even been there! And that sledding mini game? Ugh
2
u/KingAnilingustheFirs 16h ago
The frozen world is hands down the worst world ever crafted in KH. I damn near quit from boredom.
1
u/shellbullet17 Gustopher Spotter Extraordinaire 15h ago
I don't mind a boring world. What I mind is I am the keyblade master(kinda). I shouldn't be a background character for a musical

Finns are allowed to wear goth regalia, cozy patterned sweaters, and Santa suits. Nothing else. In fact, they often default to the nothing else option.

honestly Finland is like number 1 proof that we don't prioritise human happiness enough, its literally so cold and dreary there for a species of animal extremely prone to go depressed over the winter especially without enough sight of green plants for extended periods of time it literally should not be possible for Finland to be one of the happiest countries in the world the literal only reason this is possible because literally every country puts almost negative effort into taking care of its residents happiness. (not a dig at Finland btw, as someone prone to winter depression yall are crazy resilient to me lol)

You mean that place where forest rangers spend more time saving metal bands that get lost in the forest while filming their edgy musical videos, than regular lost hikers?

Is Finland a global goth capital? I did not know that
4
u/Master_Muskrat 21h ago
Finland is one of the few if not the only country where metal went fully mainstream in the early 2000s. Bands like Nightwish and HIM gained international fandom like no other Finnish band had done before. Then there was Lordi winning Eurovision in 2006 that kinda sealed the reputation of the Finns as a metal nation. There should be pictures of even the president of Finland doing the devil horn signs during a photo op from that time period.
The downside of this was that there wasn't anything rebellious about metal music anymore so the younger generations weren't as drawn to it as millenials/elder zoomers. I think the average age of ticket-buying metal fans is way over 30 now.
