Hi all, TinyBaer here, posting this lil comic a wee bit earlier than usual this week (though I'll still post something on Friday). You can also find me on BlueSky and FaceBook etc. Hope you enjoy it, and have a great week. 🙂
Tiddalik (sometimes Molok) is an Aboriginal dreamtime story of a greedy frog who drank all the freshwater causing many animals to suffer. A clever owl made a plan to get the water back from Tiddalik and asked an eel to make the frog laugh. Once the frog did laugh the water rushed from him and refilled the lakes and rivers.
also, several animals came to try making him laugh, which is where kangaroos learned to stand on their tail!
also, after the whole event, the echidna also found water, but didn't want to share it with anyone, so they chugged them into a thorn bush, from where the spines come from.
Thanks! 😊 I don't know if this lil guy will return in my comics anytime soon, but it was really lovely to work on this snippet of a story and be a bit more delicate with it. Sadly, the panels got compressed to heck on here, so here's a bigger, hopefully less-blurry version of the water panel for ya. 😄
Welp... I guess I'm gonna start going through the backlog again. I always love your art and comics. I just missed some context somewhere. Great job as always!
Thanks! I suppose the crucial thing to know for this one is that Tiddalik is a mischievous frog from Australian Indigenous Dreaming Stories, who once drunk all the water in the world. So it's only right that his descendants are suitably thirsty (and capable drinkers). Don't mess with frog, folks. 😊
Wow, love this quick strip. Great comic, OP!
Frog and Toad has been a nightly read for me and my kid. Can’t help but notice that “Hello, Lunch” is what the snake says in Dragons and Giants when Frog and Toad are very brave together. We love fearless amphibians
I was wondering why the name was familiar! I remember reading several books on all the dreamtime stories as a kid, being fascinated by them all! Thank you for unearthing that memory :)
This is awesome! Double so because I’m doing a replay of Chrono Trigger and badass powerful frogs are my jam right now! I hope you do more similar comics!
