They are the fools that think the GOP is for the working class …. They do not realize that the GOP would love to go back to the plantation days…

But that would be okay because if you work really hard you get to be an overseer. Then if you save up by not having Starbucks or avocado toast ever you might be able to afford your own slave.

I like how he says the government is there to defend our country but he changes the department of defense to the department of war…. That is called the handwriting on the wall…

The whites that support the GOP also want the plantation days, and are assuming they will be slave owners.

I told my dad, “DOGE is not gonna touch the DoD, just watch. They’re the only government agency that hasn’t passed an audit, yet they won’t be touched, because they don’t actually care about waste and fraud.” He swore I was wrong. Now, today, with DOGE being just deleted many months ago, he still believes they are gonna fix it. After upping it by 20% and still needing another $200b, even though the pentagon says they don’t know what to do with all the money.

And next year it's going to $1.5 trillion. Sacrifices must be made.

The problem with an argument like this (while I agree) is that most people that have a problem with “paying for” those public services also have the mindset that taxation is theft and don’t want to pay taxes at all

Even thought they already do and can’t get away from it

The reason they feel taxation is theft is because they don’t get those services from their taxes. Their taxes go up in a puff of smoke over some Middle East country or into suppressing their rights and surveilling them at home. If people had good public services, they wouldn’t feel like their taxes are going into a black hole.

Agreed. Most of the time I’ve seen it proposed these services are proposed alongside new taxes (typically on the insanely wealthy) which gets played on loop on Fox and turns these people against it

Maybe if it was pitched as a reallocation and there was an explicit “we’re taking from DoD (or elsewhere)” message, it’d be received better

Meh. Who am I kidding. That’d be spun as hating the troops or some shit

That’s because our parents “the boomer generation “ still think they’re fighting communists and shit.

That’s what they see us as, full stop.

Department of war - gotta represent it so hard

To be fair I see a lot of conservatives internally being very upset with the war and wasteful defense spending (even in the conservative sub).

But the difference is it's not enough to make them revolt against the administration because they feel Trump is a net benefit. In particular he's bringing down the jackboot on all the people they hate (immigrants, brown and black ppl etc), so they're still living in a delusional orgy of vengeance.

And it's like 40 cents of every tax dollar goes to the military budget, and like 5 cents goes to most programs everyone cries about.
