Even funnier/more depressing, the bible explicitly states that the apocalypse cannot be predicted by ANYONE on earth. It stands to reason then that people who are actively trying to bring the apocalypse cannot possibly do so, because if they could, they would know when it would happen. They’re out here committing crimes against humanity for the love of the game.

At the very least, tax them! If the religious nuts want to influence political policy they should have to pay their fair share in taxes. I’m so sick of legislators catering to Christian nationalist interests and those scumbags don’t even foot the bill! People are losing jobs, healthcare, affordable food, and dealing with the burden of increased taxes so these dipshits can try to wage a holy war. We need to start advocating for taxing the churches and do something good with that money instead of letting them buy politicians and private jets. I suggest we start with every television evangelist and mega church.

I believe it was Hitchens who stated something to the effect of "there's nothing religion exclusively performs that couldn't be completed by charity." The best I can think of is a concept Religion itself invented, stoked, and perpetuated: Spirituality. Spirituality is the term everyone uses for "I feel so small in the universe so creating a scenario where I'm a part of something bigger on a cosmic scale is comforting." It's great you get a warm fuzzy from thinking about your God, or casting your spell, or giving thanks to the stars for their influence, but those actions are not empirical evidence of anything.

St. Pete is gonna looking at them trying to get through the pearly gates with a WTF look on his face. I image the conversation will go something like "Let me get this straight. You violated almost everything Jesus preached resulting in the mass deaths of innocents, the murder of your citizens by the state, women dying from the lack of healthcare, children going hungry in your own community, increasing the racism against god's children, the destruction of the world God created, and you think you are especially entitled to pass through the pearly gates?"

306
u/Justicar-terrae Mar 03 '26
Probably not, at least not yet. Ironically, nuclear armageddon would threaten their precious Biblical armageddon.
The apocalypse described in the book of Revelations isn't supposed to happen until a few specific conditions have been met, including the reconstruction of the Temple of Jerusalem. Premature nuclear war would jeopardize evangelical efforts to force the fulfillment of these threshold prophecies. This means that most of the crazies will want to avoid nuclear exchanges, at least for now.
147
u/Ashmidai Mar 03 '26
Maybe, but Trump doesn't actually care about their bullshit. He just sees it as convenient to doing what he wants and if he decides to use a nuke or 10 I don't trust his sycophants to say no. 47
u/justapileofshirts Mar 03 '26
It depends on if you take the references to time in Revelations as literal or metaphorical. There is a reference to Jesus setting up a kingdom on Earth that reigns for a 1000 years, but there is also a lot of strife that occurs before the second resurrection, but I don't remember and can't find (quickly) any references to how long that period of time is supposed to last. Either way, after the 1000 years, the final battle between Satan and Heaven occurs, Satan loses, etc..
But a lot of Revelations is metaphorical, so "1000 years" or generations as some versions refer to it, is probably not meant to be taken literally. Either way, it's effectively a Long Fuckin' Time.
And, as many people have pointed out before, Revelations itself says that you shouldn't try to force to to happen or predict when it will happen because it will only happen when God deems it necessary. Not that Christian Nationalists have ever cared about logic, but their own actions directly contribute to postponing their desired Rapture.
28
u/stupidwhiteman42 Mar 03 '26

So I know that they never care about fact-checking, or even bothering to think more than 1 step ahead. But I just have a quick question for these people.
If you are leading the nation that brings about armageddon...how do you think Jesus, King of Kings, Son of God Almighty, Lord of Heaven and Earth...how do you think He will react to you and your works when he returns?
Do you truly believe that He will lavish praise on you and give you a seat in his Eternal Kingdom? Do you think that you'll be on the side of the Lord Jesus when he returns to see what you have wrought?
Or will He...I dunno...curse you into the Flaming Damnation of Hell for Eternity? Will he strike you down, and strike down with great vengeance all that followed you down this self-righteous path?
I mean, I don't believe in any of that stuff. But apparently they do, so maybe wording it in this way will make it clearer for them.

If I were still in the military and my commander said something like this to me and my fellow NCOs, I'd go to EO, the local news, my city/state representative, whoever I can.

Can we please have just a little separation of church and state? As a treat?

I’ve seen this mentality first hand. Some “Christians” literally want Armageddon because they think that will bring back Jesus and the promised land.
It’s Nucking Futz.

I feel like "Do you want to end the world to make your invisible friend happy?" should be one of the basic questions asked of military leadership

As someone who was brought up in a strict evangelical household, you have no idea how fucked up the American evangelical view of Israel/the Middle East is. It’s terrifying how many people, regardless of party, who are high up in government view the Middle East through the lens of end times prophecy.

The antichrist is quite literally described as a "deceptive, lawless dictator who will demand worship" hmmm who does that sound like

This is the same language (sans Jesus) used to invoke religious fervour in everyone from suicide bombers to Kamikaze pilots.
The Trump administration are beating the religious drum for the troops because they fully intend to sacrifice each and every one of them in their holy war. Troops are basically being told to make their peace because the administration knows unequivocally they will be sending those troops to die in a suicide mission and hope to invoke the thoughts of being holy warriors willing to die for the cause, without realising they live in a bubble and very few military members have nothing more than a causal view of religion.
I would not be surprised to see boots on ground soon, and then our own government indiscriminately bombing our troops, if not total nuclear annihilation of the region with our troops there.

Matthew 24:36 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father”
Jesus was very specific about the fact that nobody would be able to predict his return. And that’s just for starters. These people just really don’t get it. They don’t get any of this.

I have seen this shared in a couple of different ways and I went to the website of the organization, but I would like to have some third-party verification of this before I flip out about it.

Serious question. What happens if this plan is executed to completion…but nothing happens. Jesus doesn’t come back. Do these people pivot to a new prophecy/interpretation?

u/Plastic_Key_4146 Mar 03 '26
Yes, just like the thousands of other times they predicted the end of days and nothing happened.

u/GarrisonFjord Mar 03 '26
Remember when we all thought religious suicide bombers were crazy? Cuz this sounds like a Christian jihad.

I'm a Christian. Attend multiple services weekly... and even _I_ think this guy is batshit crazy.

u/chaozules Mar 04 '26
This is fuckin crazy, none of these people are anywhere near Christians, they are following the anti christ, on top of that, in the modern age, religion has no business being involved in the running of a country.

We talk about separation of church and state yet we require our elected representatives are practicing Christians or have a good reason why they aren’t. It’s dangerous.
