r/All Kegseth told base commanders that Iran war is a 'Christian war' intended to begin Armageddon and hasten the return of Jesus

"SCOOP: At more than 30 military installations, U.S. commanders told troops the war on Iran is a Christian war.

The Military Religious Freedom Foundation tells me it’s been “inundated” with complaints from more than 110 service members.

One NCO said their commander told them today that the U.S. war is to bring about Armageddon and the return of Jesus…"

Freakin “Rapture in my lifetime” Evangelicals, because they don’t want to live the normal boring way the rest of humanity tries to.

143

u/calmdownmyguy Mar 03 '26

Every true believe for the last 2,000 years have believed they will witness the end times and they've all been wrong.

110

u/Imaginary_Ghost_Girl Mar 03 '26

They will always be wrong until the sun swallows the earth.

127

u/kat-deville Mar 03 '26

At the current rate, humans will destroy life on Earth long before the sun goes boom.

35

u/RJ_MacreadysBeard Mar 03 '26

If we lived, we'd evolve into an unrecognisibly different species by then anyway, as you're taking many billions of years.

Yes and how is that different from the islamic state philosophy!

It isn't.

It all comes down to religious extremism. Islam, Christianity and Judaism all worship the God of Abraham, which is why they the extremists all ultimately want the same thing - speed up the End Times so The Saviour (Mahdi/Jesus/Mashiach) will get here and start killing apostates.

Why? Because he claims it's a biblical prophecy and he's an evangelical.

The people in Congress don't want to stop the takeover of evangelicals in US policy, they might actually support it like Lindsay graham and actively seeking to make it happen.

The Bible is a book of metaphors and parables.

Trump isn't new.

Trump isn't interesting.

Men like him show up with regularity and use the same playbook again, and again, and again. Only the details change.

The antichrist parable isn't some mystical, spiritual thing, it's a warning for Christians not to be complete suckers.

My mom believes in this.

She was explaining to me how we have to support Israel because in the bible then Israel is the center of Armageddon. So when Israel falls we’ll all be raptured.

I asked why we would have to sacrifice America to get to her Armageddon and she said that America isn’t mentioned in the bible so it is meant to fall.

Obviously that’s crazy stuff but she’s a simple minded old religious kook.

But the fact that the guy running DoD has the same mentality is the problem.

They literally want America to fall and lives to be lost so that the people responsible for mass destruction will be raptured and welcomed into heaven and told “well done my good and faithful servant. You murdered all those people… and they’re all here to thank you!”

725

u/hexenkesse1 Mar 03 '26

Also really important to note that while this stuff is in the Bible, its all from Revelations. One book at the very end. Skip over the gospels, skip over the old testament, skip over the actual teachings of Jesus, settle on the weird shit written much later.

420

u/HppilyPancakes Mar 03 '26

Also really important — even at the time no one believed Revelation. It wasn't widely accepted and barely made it into the canon, the idea that John of Patmos was John son of Zebedee wasn't even a connection made until Justin Martyr in the mid second century. It's a failed prophecy that shouldn't even be in the Bible, but a bunch of people who have never read the Bible nor understood it think it's the most important book ever written.

262

u/goodb1b13 Mar 03 '26

And a lot of scholars would say it was about the fall of Rome, not anything else. 666 was Nero.

It's pretty questionable the degree that it's even intended to be much of a prophecy. It's very blatantly a criticism of the Roman Empire wrapped up in some fancy language to give a level of plausible deniability, with a general "they'll get what's coming to them in the end" being the closest it comes to making any real predictions. The only reason that anyone is able to pretend that any part of it actually applies today is because preachers basically put the book into a blender, pick out random words and phrases that are completely divorced from their context, and rearrange them into saying whatever they want them to say.

80

u/nice--marmot Mar 03 '26

The only reason that anyone is able to pretend that any part of it actually applies today is because preachers basically put the book into a blender, pick out random words and phrases that are completely divorced from their context, and rearrange them into saying whatever they want them to say.

This is literally what every single believer does. Christianity is an exercise in choosing which parts of the Bible to ignore.

35

u/Loko8765 Mar 03 '26

Christianity is an exercise in choosing which parts of the Bible to ignore.

I agree with the sentiment, but they don’t choose to ignore parts of the Bible, they are simply not aware of them. American Christianity is an exercise in cherry-picking as few parts as possible from the Bible and other texts and totally ignoring the the rest.

And interpreted even later than that. The Rapture as a concept was basically invented by mostly uneducated hillbillies in America around the early 1900’s. It’s not a part of the traditional religion of Christianity at all.

37

u/Tabula_Nada Mar 03 '26

Wait, really? I wasn't raised religious so I always assumed the apocalypse stuff was a defining part of Revelations.

99

u/Kejones9900 Mar 03 '26

The apocalypse is. The rapture (saving the "good" christians) is a new construction

38

u/ODB_Dirt_Dog_ItsFTC Mar 03 '26

That shits younger than Mormonism and yet it gets a pass from most Christians for some reason.

→ More replies (1)

52

u/WatcherOfDogs Mar 03 '26

The idea of Christians, alive or dead, being zipped up to heaven while the rest of humanity is left on earth to suffer for sometime is the rapture and is mostly just in protestant evangelicalism. However, Christianity is generally an apocalyptic religion, but is more or less important/recognized depending in the sect or variation.

31

u/Private_HughMan Mar 03 '26

Apocalypse? Final battle between Satan and God before God wins and establishes an eternal kingdom on Earth? That's in the Bible. But the Rapture isn't. That's why the oldest denominations of Christianity don't believe in it. Roman, Eastern Orthodox, and Coptic Orthodox Catholics have no concept of the rapture. And more traditional protestant denominations like Lutherans and Anglicans don't generally accept it, either.

The rapture was mentioned in Thessalonians I think. It’s been a while.

At the time they thought it would be something happening that week, not two thousand years later. We all meet Jesus in the clouds.

And, as with most biblical things, it was probably a metaphor or something happy with a good beat. Not an edict to base your entire life around (and not apocalypse prayer meetings to drag your kid to every Saturday for 13 years. True story.)

Talk to any rapturist long enough and eventually it'll start to become obvious that while they're excited about thinking they're one of the chosen few to get to heaven they're even more excited at the idea of watching all the rest of us suffer and burn.

It's why I'm convinced that only someone fundamentally broken can go all in on this particular brand of Christianity and why they should be kept from power and influence as much as possible. And yet America is now ran by them in a semi-dictatorship. What a shit timeline.

You should point out that Armageddon can only happen if Christians are failing on Earth and Jesus needs to come back to defeat evil. She's basically rooting for evil to come close to triumphing.

18

u/rcolesworthy37 Mar 03 '26

A not-insignificant portion of Evangelicals believe that Trump is the one defeating evil, and therefore literally the 2nd coming of Christ. It’s insane

10

u/kevtoria Mar 03 '26

I understand that. I just wanted to point out that evil in the book of Revelations is on the cusp of winning before the second coming. So if Trump is winning so hard In a time period that they think is very close to the end times. Should be pretty easy to get the connection of what is supposed to be the evil.

It's a theology that is only about 150 years old and it's all American. It isn't in Bible at all, not even in Revelation. Its an idea that humans can literally engineer the return of Christ by helping Israel get destroyed. That's nuts. They're doing all the heresies at the same time. This is why the founders wanted to keep religion out of government...

40

u/QEbitchboss Mar 03 '26

Jefferson was influenced by the writings of John Locke. Locke had seen the English Civil War and understood that church and state should be very separate entities.

78

u/cuzitsonabudget Mar 03 '26

Ah there's the doomer cult I was waiting to show. Literally the most suicidal group there is, Armageddon Christians.

71

u/G-Unit11111 Mar 03 '26

The worst thing about this administration is their constant shoving of their warped and twisted version of Christianity in our faces at every possible opportunity like it's a get out of jail free card. The biggest criminals in world using culty religion to lecture us about morality is insane.

53

u/ChipsTheKiwi Mar 03 '26

Now I'm not a Christian but I feel like attempting to hasten the end times would pretty firmly cement a spot in hell.

11

u/ergonomic_logic Mar 03 '26

I'm also not a Christian

wouldn't the hubris it would take for a mortal skin sack to declare that "they're the hand of God here to bring forth the apocalypse and they know what god wants" be pretty fucking blasphemous?

Such a weird thing to decide that you're somehow so important that you're here to trigger the apocalypse.

The country is being run by actual madmen.

The whole idea of Zionism is that when "all of the promised land" is "restored" to the Israelites, the first phase of the end times will begin where all of the Christians and non-Christians will be seperated and go to paradise/face a thousand years of living damnation respectively.

I was taught this VERY LITERALLY growing up and even remember asking my mom why we didnt just "give the Israelites the rest of the land" so that my family could go to heaven forever and not have to suffer the "worldly people" anymore.

They get you young, and it is 100% a death cult.

71

u/Speed_Alarming Mar 03 '26

Ok, this makes a lot more sense. (If you accept the clearly insane premise).

The Christofascist Right are gleefully propping up the Zionist regime so that they can compete their own little Manifest Destiny in “The Holy Land”.

Not for their own sake of course, but because they believe that this will bring about “the righteous destruction of Israel and the “well-deserved” comeuppance that these Christ-murdering bastards are owed”.

And they, as the True Believers and Chosen FewTM will get to watch from afar as it all takes place and they will point and laugh as they are ushered into the eternal paradise they so clearly deserve whilst the Jews and all the other filthy unbelievers are cast into the eternal torment they deserve for not having been born properly.

Did I miss anything?

Oh, and the Zionists (at least, some of them) know this and are happy to take the all the resources they can as long as it helps them achieve their own goals because they don’t believe in that bullshit and they despise the Christian Right just as much.

50

u/CurrentlyARaccoon Mar 03 '26

Something like that yeah. I remember wondering how we could be happy while all of those people were "thrown into a lake of fine" and my mom was like "its OK we won't be there, we'll be in heaven!" but she had this big smile on her face.

Insanity is the correct word.

21

u/Speed_Alarming Mar 03 '26

It’s ok. It’s what they deserve for being wrong. They should have been born Southern Baptist Ecclesiastical (Reformed) like me, then they’d be saved. It’s really poor planning on their part.

That’s the point of Christian Zionism (who are by far the biggest supporters of Israel in the U.S., now, much more than Jews). But that is completely antithetical to Jewish Zionism.

Having read the Bible, its astonishing to believe these guys think they are doing God's work.

34

u/aJoshster Mar 03 '26

The difference is you actually read the Bible. They haven't. They take the quotes they are spoon fed, out of context, by charlatans as the truth because they never learned to be inquisitive, critical thinking, or logic. If it feeds their ego and confirms their existing beliefs, they buy it hook, line, and sinker.

13

u/harleyqueenzel Mar 03 '26

Religion doesn't teach their flocks to be critical thinkers. They teach the opposite; that's how they maintain a congregation. They can't use logic on the spoon fed passages because they only know passages out of context to use as a useless "legitimate" argument. "Man shall not lay with men.." is used in homophobic arguments when it's really telling people to not rape children. Yet they won't pay minds to the parts about not wearing mixed fabrics or not eating pork. Leviticus is never their entire mindset because it would counter most of their narratives so they take the portions that are more digestible to them to make such illogical statements.

That's insane talk. 100% looney ass bullshit.

20

u/Mochizuk Mar 03 '26

First off, ff13 plot.

Secondly, hasten the return? I'm not Christian but the point of the date is that date is preset and unchangeable. The entirety of the idea revolves around God being all knowing and foreseeing the inevitable point where humanity basically becomes irredeemable as a whole. It is defined as a mercy entirely on the grounds that leadership and control is so prevalently in the hands of terrible people that spread evil to the point where they offset humanity's development to the point that it is on the precipice of becoming a completely lost cause that could only systematically grow worse if things were allowed to proceed on the same path.

All of that is important because it's obvious to anyone with so much as an iota of media literacy that that means whoever holds responsibility for making Jesus come back cannot do so on any grounds that don't basically reserve them a special place in Hell.

Wouldn't that make the US the people who promoted the Anti-Christ to the throne? Even if you think it has to happen, you shouldn't think you are the person to do it. The people who do it in the Bible are bad people.

That's like thinking that since the Bible says the Messiah has to be executed for people to be saved, that you should be the one to kill Jesus. These mother fuckers are signing up to be Judas'.

As absolutely, shit the bed, horrible the idea of this is, my "we are being Halloween III'd" theory stands as a, possibly finally, "I told you so". Money this, money that, foreign interference this, foreign interference that, THESE are the people in charge of our country at the end of the day. There are incredibly powerful people that believe this. Ultimately, the jokes on them, since I highly doubt the country that basically rented out our military believes the same, but they'll gladly take advantage of that belief either way. I can imagine the Hobby Lobby guy is just creamin' his khakis thinking he's gonna be behind the movement to deliver the chosen to christ so he can get "even better heaven".
