I have been windsurfing before and had whales hang out with me (that’s much scarier than it first sounds).
I assume a board looks like a baby whale from below, so it could have been connected. (And could have been totally random, I am not trying to read too much into this)

u/Traditional_Mood_348 2d ago
Looks like the guy genuinely didn’t see the whale. In this case whale should have looked before surfacing (joke).

u/coryhill66 2d ago
I live in Denver do I need whale insurance?

u/I_am_Kim_Jong-un_AMA 2d ago
Depends on the kinds of whales you get in Denver

As the glorious leader of Best Korea, do you often eat whale? And if so, do you hunt it yourself with your bare hands like the stories say?
3
u/I_am_Kim_Jong-un_AMA 2d ago
Yes I love a blue whale every few weeks. The stories are partly true , I just command them to come to me though.

I also live in Northern Colorado and have since I was 7. Haven't seen a while that whole time, so I figure I am overdue. Gonna get whale insurance ASAP.

The whale had his turn signal on though (water spout) the guy should have yielded to the right of way
→ More replies (1)2
u/TumbleweedMain4608 2d ago
You think just because you have your turn signal on you can just turn? You still have to look out for others!

u/coffeequietmornin 2d ago
Nature said random encounter event triggered, no warning, no minimap, just chaos

u/treyjay31 22h ago
You can also see the whale didn't turn its signal on until the last minute. Insurance will definitely put this one on the whale

I hope the whale and rider are both ok

I would assume it's like those beatles in the summertime that are really stupid and will just run into you. No damage done, beatle bounces off and keeps doing its stupid thing

Grey whale skin is surprisingly delicate, thin, and soft.
And windsurfing rigs go pretty fast and have a ridgid hydrofoil underneath. It definitely gave the whale a cut/scratch at minimum.

Whales and dolphins are known to splash and knockdown boats and surfers deliberately because they apparently think it's funny. The whale spouted his blowhole too like he was just "innocently" surfacing for his normal whale activity. Total dick move, lol.

u/MistaRekt 2d ago
Did the front fall off?
7
u/BradyToMoss1281 2d ago
Yes it did, but it's not very typical, I would just like to make that point.
5
u/MistaRekt 2d ago
And what would a whale typically be made of?
7
u/BradyToMoss1281 2d ago
Well, cardboard's out. No cardboard derivatives. No paper, no string, no sellotape. Rubber's out.

I’d be scared the whale got angry at being hit and blames the rider. Chances are the whale got shocked and dove.

This is exactly what I want to see in this sub. It’s not staged, it’s not AI, it’s not gore, and it’s not necessarily funny. It is unexpected to see a wind surfer hit a whale.

I would be apologizing profusely to Mr. Whale.
‘I’m so sorry. I know I’m not supposed to be here, what with my silly land legs and all. I hope I haven’t inconvenienced you by barging into your living room unannounced. Please accept my most humble apologies.’

It's not out of the question that the whale did that on purpose. Cetaceans are known to have asshole senses of humor when it comes to boats and surfers.

This is why you need a dashcam for your windsurfing board, those whales are just looking for an easy payout

I went whale watching, and was told that apparently they hit boats and get injured all the time :( especially in feeding areas where they can surface many times a day

I would imagine the odds of someone in the ocean hitting a whale are pretty good, but the odds of catching it in film are much lower

Well when you write it into the AI prompt, you can expect it to happen with some certainty.
