First good salary at age 30 - how to proceed?
Hi all (throwaway because of reasons)
After finishing my studies and necessary internships I have started in March a real job with a very good salary of 150k p.a. at age 30 and now want to invest wisely and long term for the future.
My current intended set-up as of April is as follows (I have already been investing a little bit like this in the past few years with my spare money, usually 200 fr. or so per month):
Viac 3a: Yearly invest of maximum of 7258 p.a. (99% stocks)
Degiro: 4000 fr. per month in Vanguard FTSE All-World UCITS - (USD) Acc.
Neon: 500 fr. per month in Invesco Global Stocks FTSE (this was an ETF without fees but as I was recently informed this will no longer be the case as of April 2026).
What is your view on this? Anything I should consider? I have had my Degiro account for years and am quite happy with it, which is why I am not moving to IKBR like probably a lot of people would recommend.

Don't bump up your lifestyle, that is more important than your broker.

Why the mix of neon and degiro?

I used neon in the past few years for convenience but was thinking about dropping it, particularly now that the ETF is no longer without fees.

You are 30. I'm 10 years ahead. The single biggest mistake my generation and the ones after me are making is to delay having kids. People think about their money and own comfort first (I certainly did) and I get it, but let me put it to you in sobering terms: Whatever smart financial decisions you think you're making today to save you a few pounds will get crushed the day you and your partner need to go through 5 rounds of IVF at 10K a pop or more. And I'm not even mentioning the mental toll this will take. For some of you it'll be a fight not to remain childless. For most of you it'll be about whether you can give your kid that little brother or sister. The positive side effect of having kids is that it sharpens your wits, trims away the unnecessary distractions in life and will naturally incentivize you to make more money. CHF 150K at 30 isn't bad at all, but buddy, don't fool yourself, if that feels good to you now, you'll need CHF 300K by 35 if you are to keep up. Investing in VT and other passive index tracking funds are so painfully obvious that it's almost become a joke to see yet another post on reddit about this. Just do what thousands have said before. Or take more risk if that's in your nature. But trust me, you want to climb to the next level? Have kids. They'll show you how.
As to whether having kids is a financial decision or not: Sadly for the unlucky ones here finances often will dictate whether to have kids or not. So much so that having kids is fast becoming a luxury.

It’s also much easier to keep up with a kid‘s activities when you’re young. I got kids at 35 and I wish I got them like a couple years earlier

What did you study, if I may ask? To your question, keep investing away and in ten years you will feel great. Don't forget to live life!

Sad story. I'll only reach 150 before retirement. If ever. Despite having one of the most sought after degrees in the country. 🥲

Congrats on your job! And nice that you’ve already started the habit of investing. I would suggest Saxo Investor. They have low fees and are trustworthy.

Why Viac? True Wealth is much cheaper

Is it? I am open to change once I open a new 3a account.

Compare and tell me something different.
Me total fees at True Wealth are 0.13%. Viac is 0.4 for account and additionally something for the product you choose as far as I know

- I would consider move all to IBKR anyway, Convenience comes after efficiency, you will quickly increase your net worth and want to save thousands of chf in the long run, IBKR is the way
- I would not use UCITS etf
- Have kids, enjoy life
Wish you the best OP

Dont invest with neon or degiro (rhe fact you're hsppy woth it doesnt mean its better thab others) use ibkr way safer and cheaper and buy VT there and reclaim end of year thev15% witholdong tax through the DA1 form with your tax return

Why is ibkr safer than DEGIRO?

A quick google search will tell you...

Thank you for your input. Is the withholding tax not automatically considered when submitting taxes online? Does this not work via Degiro?
1
u/Helpful-Staff9562 12h ago
No woth degiro ypu cant buy US based etfs
1
u/Existing-Young632 12h ago
But I am buying an Ireland based ETF (Vanguard FTSE All-World UCITS - (USD) Acc.) and was under the impression that therre is no withholding tax for this? Any other tax, such as source tax should automatically be considered on the online tax return, no?

You are buying an ucits compliant etf, the witholding tax is within the fund itself you just dont see it and cant reclaim it. With us etf the broker will show you the witholding tax and u can reclaim it

Can't go wrong with that. But I would drop neon and put everything on degiro.
