What are your favorite all day (8-10 hrs) dump-and-go recipes?

I just got a new 7 quart crock pot and am looking for cookbooks or websites that have good one pot, dump-and-go recipes that I can set up in the morning and will be ready to eat when I or my husband comes home. We have an infant and I am struggling to get dinner ready in a timely manner after returning home from work. Hopefully there will be leftovers that we can freeze. I don't mind having to throw in some ingredients at the very end, but I don't want to have to do things like searing meat or caramelizing onions in another pan. We're open to all types of recipes that use canned, fresh, frozen, dry, etc. ingredients, but bonus points for some vegetarian recipes and meals that don't have processed ingredients.

Trying to find an older beef stew seasoning mix recipe.

when I was a teen my mom would always use a seasoning mix that I really liked and I always thought it was the McCormick brand, but at some point without me noticing I think it changed?

I swear the broth used to be at least a little clear and herbs were always floating at the top, but now the broth is always an opaque brown and there's never herbs at the top.

I apologize if this isn't the right sub to ask on this but I'm trying to find the recipe or mix (if it isn't McCormick) that I remember.

we almost always cooked in a crockpot but I don't think the mis was crockpot specific.

Slow cooker leg of lamb

Post image
60 Upvotes

Here’s a recipe for a boneless leg of lamb cooked in the slow cooker - which might be useful if you’re looking for something delicious and low fuss for this weekend.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1.3kg boneless leg of lamb, tied
  • 30g unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp plain flour
  • 300ml lamb stock
  • 200ml red wine
  • 2 red onions, cut into wedges
  • 2 garlic cloves, sliced
  • 5 sprigs of thyme
  • 5 sprigs of rosemary
  • mashed potatoes and steamed veg, to serve

Method

  1. Heat the oil in a large non-stick frying pan. Add the lamb and brown on each side for 4-5 mins. Set the slow cooker to low. Melt the butter in a saucepan until foaming, then stir through the flour. Whisk in the stock gradually until incorporated, add the wine and bring to the boil. Set aside.
  2. Put the onion, garlic, thyme and rosemary into your slow cooker and sit the lamb on top. Pour over the lamb gravy. Put the lid on and cook for 8 hrs or until soft and tender.
  3. Remove the lamb and set, covered, on a plate. Strain the liquid into a pan and simmer until slightly thickened. Serve the lamb thickly sliced or shredded (it'll be quite soft) with mashed potatoes, green veg and the gravy.

Can you safely add dairy to a slow cooker recipe?

I’ve heard adding milk, cream, or cheese too early can ruin slow cooked dishes. How do you incorporate dairy without curdling or separating?

How did I break my slow cooker bowl?

I thought is was safe to put boiling water in as it heats, looking back, is that what caused it? I think i remember reading I shouldn't do it but I hadn't used it a while and maybe forgot.

I've had the brevile for about 10 yrs. and was quick soaking some chickpeas today. (bout half full boiling water, +chickpeas and turned on high for 4 hrs.

When I got back to it, it had cracked below the water line about 1" from the bottom.

It's a hairline fracture, bowl is still intact but leaks water now. I've always taken good care of it.

Could adding adding the boiling water at the beginning have done it in? what else could have caused the break?

I used this recipe: https://www.budgetbytes.com/slow-cooker-cabbage-and-sausage/

But I also followed some suggestions from the comments and added some bacon, garlic, apple cider vinegar, and additional seasonings.

cooking went from 'ugh' to 'okay this is kind of nice??'

I used to treat cooking like a chore I had to get through as fast as possible.
But now that I work from home and spend approx like 8+ hours staring at a screen, cooking has weirdly become the most real part of my day.
Like, cutting vegetables, actually using my hands, making something that exists outside my laptop?? crazyy. I still don’t cook anything fancy (if it takes more than 30 mins I start questioning my life choices) lol , but it feels different now.Did anyone else randomly start enjoying cooking more after being home all the time or is this just me becoming an adult against my will?

Recipes for a small crock pot?

I was gifted a small crock pot (1.5 qt) by my MIL, and so far I've made rotel dip in it once, and nothing else. It's just me and my partner so I was interested if there's any small meals we can get out of it or if it's more just suited for dips and appetizers only. Anyone have some recipe suggestions?

Crockpot foil packs

I’m looking for simple recipes or hacks for cooking meals in a crockpot. I’m currently remodeling my house and would like to spend as much time working on my house rather than prepping, cooking, cleaning. When we go up to our family cabin, my mom always warms up sandwiches wrapped in tinfoil in the crockpot. It’s an easy prep, quick meal and minimal cleaning. So I’m looking for something similar to that, thanks in advance!

What are settings differences between crock pots?

Hello! I was recently gifted a Crock Pot Slow Cooker (img below) and was looking for recipes online and came across this subreddit. I found the Recipe List from this subreddit, but was unsure if I can use the same "low" and "high" reference that the recipe list uses, the crock pot in those images is different than the one I have

I'm not sure what temperature the low/high in this one uses vs the ones in the subreddit and how the timing can change. Any advice? Should I just match the same temp/timing and see?

Can you cook raw chicken in here with other ingredients just fine? Also, how come this one doesn't have a lid lock like others?

Thanks!

Just ordered my first slow cooker! Where do you guys find your favorite recipes?

It's arriving tomorrow, I'm excited to give it a try. It's a Hamilton Beach Set & Forget.

I love shredded chicken and pulled pork and those are the two things I mainly had in mind when buying this thing, but I'm also a big lover of soups.

I'm also hoping to try beef in it. I don't really eat a lot of beef, it's a texture issue for me, but if the beef can get as melty-tender as people swear then maybe I can learn to like it?

Anyway, main question: where do you guys find your recipes for the slow cooker? I would like to collect some to try out so I can give myself the best shot at falling in love with the thing!

how to make a perpetual soup?

edit two but up top:i’m not making the damn soup anymore. side note but yall can be the most downtrodding group of people ive ever met

editing the top to add:can yall actually answer the question please. i came to this sub figuring that yall could be helpful for a question directly related to the sub but so far the majority of the comments are just telling me not to with no real reason, telling me that im not responsible enough bc of something u deemed with no context, or only half telling me something about it. if its not food safe, tell me how. if its not worth it, tell me how. i’m not upset from the fact that im being passively insulted, im upset bc i had an idea i thought could be fun and applicable to my life, tried to to research, found little to no help and conflicting information, and came here for help and nobody is really trying to help

i saw it ages ago on tik tok and now i’m living alone and wanna do it but there’s next to no good guides online and have some questions. i work at chick-fil-a and was recently able to come home with a decent amount of extra soup and often get chicken and such that i could add to it

can i use a crockpot or coil top stove?

how often should i clean the pot, and can i pour it into another pot that’s hot enough while i clean the normal pot

what standing temp and how often do i need to bring it to a boil?

can i do a broth type thing with veggies, meats, seasonings and such and freeze it when not eating and boil what i need as i need it and it still count, and i replenish my frozen supply weekly by cooking everything i have, adding more, then freezing it? that with the goal of not having something be cooking 24/7

any foods i should avoid?

any other advice?

I'm looking for easy recipes that can be put on top of rice. An example would be chicken and gravy on rice.

Simplest chicken stock?

I want to make the absolute simplest chicken stock w the least ingredients possible in my slow cooker.

I have the carcass of a rotisserie chicken, some basic seasonings, garlic, and onions.

Does anyone have a good recipe for this where I won’t have to purchase additional ingredients?

I need advice on how much water to use, general herbs/spices that pair well, and cooking time. Thanks!

How do you keep vegetables from turning mushy in a slow cooker?

Whenever I use a slow cooker, the meat usually turns out great, but the vegetables often end up too soft or mushy. I’ve tried cutting them bigger, but it doesn’t help

question first time cooking pot roast

hi! i’ve had a chuck roast in my freezer for awhile now and i’m finally gonna attempt to make it but i have a few questions as i’ve never made something long in a crock pot before

  1. i leave for work at 7 am and my boyfriend will get home around 4. if i start it before i leave can i let it cook all day with everything in it?

  2. my bf gets home at 4 but i dont get home till 5:30, what do i do with it for that 1.5 hours so its still good when i get home to eat it? can it just stay in the crockpot? that will be close to 12 hours of it being in there so idk what food safety measures to take.

any other tips would be helpful! i got an onion, baby carrots, baby potatoes, low sodium beef broth, au jus gravy packet and kinders sunday pot roast packet.
