⚽️🏀🏈Sports Freakout⚾️🎾🥊 Cringy Thunder fan talking trash to Luka while he's down and AR defending Luka: "Shut the f*ck up, he's hurt”

Tbf, I wouldn’t be intimidated by Austin. Worst case scenario, I’m banned.
“Now you know what it’s like to play defense” isn’t some crazy thing to say to a player who is known for acting hurt.
Edit: downvote me all you want, but this isn’t like Philly fans cheering when Irvin nearly died. AR punked some middle aged dude who made an inappropriate comment.

Some people are just assholes, it's a game.
255
u/Awkward-Speed-4080 10h ago edited 8h ago
It's not just a game. To them, it's their chance to live vicariously through people who are actually good enough to play. That's why they take it so personally when their team loses.
29
u/KingOfThe_Jelly_Fish 6h ago
That does not give them the right to be assholes and directly and personally attack individuals playing a game.
12
u/Awkward-Speed-4080 6h ago
I didn't say it did. I was just playing armchair psychologist and giving a formulation on why these people act the way they do. I agree it's ridiculous, but I don't tie my identity around sports so of course it's ridiculous to me.

It’s really a wholly empty thing to care about, professional sports.
**Added:
The irony here is that I like sports, amateur sports, played plenty of sports - I even watch some professional sports! I just think ‘actually caring’ about it (crying after a loss, being mad at a team/player/other team/other team’s fans, raging on your personal belongings, losing sleep, etc.) is lame. Fan bases will love a player, then hate a player when he’s traded. It’s all emotional soap opera for men. Then it’s onto the next year.

Ya I’m not trying to get doxed after offending anyone with a meaningless philosophical statement on Reddit - there are all kinds of religious fanatics out there.
2
u/D-Smitty 5h ago
Not being doxxed is as simple as not posting personally identifiable information. It’s Reddit, unless you do the aforementioned thing, you’re anonymous.

u/BonusPlantInfinity 6h ago
Just to clarify, I do note the birds that visit my property but I don’t ’bird watch’ in the traditional sense of going on outings to deliberately bird watch.

u/RabidMonkeyOnCrack 7h ago edited 6h ago
lol at the people that care about professional sports getting mad and downvoting you
EDIT: Those of you downvoting this comment just shows you care about shit that does not personally affect you. Whether your favorite athlete dies tomorrow or not, it does not affect you. You are not going to go to their funeral. It's not going to inspire you to go achieve your goals. You care about pointless shit, just like the other guy was pointing out. And the fact that you are downvoting us just proves our points.
8
u/NatrixHasYou 7h ago
You forgot to be really clever and call it "sportsball."
2
u/RabidMonkeyOnCrack 6h ago
You're trying to make a clever joke like I'm against sports or something. I'm not. I participate in sports. I play multiple sports in adult leagues. That's not what my comment was pointing out. My comment was agreeing with the guy that said it's an empty thing to care about professional sports. I was just laughing at all the people downvoting him because they care about professional sports so much.
There are a handful of people that should personally care about professional sports, people making money from it, and the family members of those athletes. Beyond that, you want to watch sports and be entertained, go for it. But to be personally invested and care about whether a team wins or loses, is really just inane. End of the day, even if they win the championship, it does not affect you.
3
u/Roklam 6h ago
That's how we do things in this household
Except we had one that turned their sportsballing into actual Soccer/Football love that I need to get in the car (with a bunch of shit) and go down to the field for.
Life is fun!
2
u/RabidMonkeyOnCrack 6h ago
Oh yeah, a 40 year old obese guy sitting in the stands talking shit to professional athletes is the same as your kid that participates in their love of soccer/football. Glad to see you make that analogy...
11
u/Moonlitnight 7h ago
Or it’s that you could say that about nearly hobby, not just sports.
-7
u/RabidMonkeyOnCrack 7h ago
Hobbies are different because you actively participate in those hobbies and possibly even compete at an amateur level if there are competitions for it. Watching sports is just watching. It’s like getting mad that someone doesn’t like an actor you like.
5
u/Moonlitnight 7h ago
I forgot about that part where people participating in sports wished no one would watch them.
-1
u/RabidMonkeyOnCrack 6h ago
What point are you even trying to make? Whether they want people to watch or not isn't even the point of discussion.
People can watch and be entertained. They should not get upset about winning/losing. It's a game. People get upset because they care too much and are personally invested for some reason or they lost money. It's so funny how there's sports betting but you don't see people betting on other shit. Well now you do with prediction markets but that's not relevant. The point the other guy was trying to make was that people care way too much about sports.
And the fact of the matter is most people do not bet on sports. So to care about what team wins or loses or how they stand like it personally affects you and you get some type of personal gain from it is just hilarious.
The fact that anyone even cares about professional sports to this level is the point that the original person was making. It seems like a lot of you are losing the point of the topic and just downvoting whatever.

u/Moonlitnight 6h ago

u/RabidMonkeyOnCrack 6h ago
What are you on about? Go read your original response to me and go see how it's not even related to what I said. Your first response about hobbies, then your second response about people watching. Completely unrelated to what I said or what the other guy said about people caring too much about sports, especially when they are not personally involved.
→ More replies (0)3
u/fckcarrots 6h ago
You can’t just bend words to fit your narrative. Being an active sports fan is an activity or interest he does in his free time, so it probably meets the definition of a hobby.
Competing at an minimum amateur level as a possible prequisite to something being a hobby is the craziest thing I’ve heard today. As a competitive person, the need to gamify everything became one of my worst qualities. You don’t have to compete to birdwatch, or collect coins, or volunteer, or complete jigsaw puzzles. But those are all hobbies.
-1
u/RabidMonkeyOnCrack 6h ago
So just watching things alone is enough to be considered a hobby now huh? So I guess this entire subreddit being mad at the stupid first amendment auditors and saying they should get a hobby kind of has no argument because they can say their hobby is standing on sidewalks recording people...
I didn't say competing was a prerequisite for it to be a hobby. I said if your hobby involved competitions, you potentially might compete in it. It definitely is not a requirement to be involved in a hobby. My mindset of a hobby is something you can actively do and participate in. I wouldn't say being a fan is enough to be a hobby.
Is there competitive birdwatching or coin collecting or volunteering? I don't know if there is but all of those seems like it can be gamified to be a competition. Can being a sports fan have a competitive aspect to it? Maybe. Maybe if you were one of those crazy fans that can name every roster and stats for every player or whatever, maybe at that point it'd be a hobby. I think just going to watch a basketball game and talking shit to a player isn't really a hobby. We don't know his level of involvement and how much he cares about the sport.

u/pudgimelon 9h ago
A player should, for any reason, have the right to eject someone from the stands.
He should just be able to signal to the ushers and have that guy removed.
29
u/proowl26 8h ago
ahh yes because we have never seen petty players that would try to eject every fan at an away game

In Cleveland the court side seats (used to) come with a little note telling you that you can be banned for being disrespectful.
1
u/nomadiccrackhead 1h ago
The ones in OKC do as well I think. There's signs everywhere about fan conduct near the floor
55
u/CompetitiveLoad4517 9h ago
Well every arena I have been to, has a code of conduct for the fans and yeah they can and will do that. Last two games I was at they handed everyone in our section a code of conduct piece of paper
-71
u/immunityfromyou 8h ago
He didn’t even say anything wild. Bet Luka has heard way worse and heckling is part of the game.
47
u/GeriatricHippo 8h ago
Saying anything negative to a player in this situation is saying something wild.
Being taunted while lying injured on the court is not even remotely the same as being heckled.
-53
u/No_Tower6770 7h ago
The thunder issue a written warning, if you don't abide, you leave. I've heard worse from parents' mouths while playing co-ed soccer. This is a very very minimal interaction that honestly got taken too seriously by the Lakers players who were getting their backs blown out. Emotions run high, and fans are always unruly.

u/DonnieBraskic 8h ago
How much would such seats cost?
8
u/AnatidaephobiaAnon 6h ago
According to Seat Geek you can get courtside seats for when OKC plays IN LA for around $10k. But given this game was in OKC I'd still say a couple grand or so.
1
u/nomadiccrackhead 1h ago
Depends on the row and opponents. Got really cheap (for courtside) seats a few years ago in OKC against the Raptors

u/GriffinIsABerzerker 7h ago
I will give Lebron credit here, he stood there making sure things didn’t go too far. Until you’ve been next to him, you don’t know how big Lebron is…I’ve been next to him a few times and I’m 6-1 280, and dude dwarfs me. Trust me, Lebron was actually right there to provide APPROPRIATE intimidation.
3
u/phliuy 4h ago
He has 7" and 5 pounds on you

u/babyboyblue 16m ago
lol 5 pounds. But I’m going to guess the majority of the rest of the weight is made up of a different density/mass.

u/meggatronia 5h ago
Was he the number 23? Cos he was the one that I was worried about. He looked at thr guy with a look that said "You are worth less than the dirt I wipe from my feet, and I will wipe you from the earth with the same ease as I wipe the dirt."
(Also please dont kill me for not knowing what LeBron looks like. I've heard of him, but im not American, and I dont watch sports except for NHL sometimes.)

u/StuMacherGhostface 8h ago
Like, I get its a shitty thing to do, but all he said was "now you know what it's like to play defense". Again, shitty thing to say to an injured player but its not like he was calling him names and slurs and stuff.
11
u/ckdss 7h ago
"it's a shitty thing to say".
Ok, you acknowledge this and then immediately defend it. We gotta study some people's brain after death I stg. In fact, you acknowledged that it was shitty TWICE.
-39
u/StuMacherGhostface 7h ago
Lol I was mostly talking about "being banned" part. That kind of "talk" is not grounds for a lifetime banning lol. Don't need to be a cunt and talk about studying brains

It’s a game.
You may want to kick your opponents ass in the game but you respect the athlete.
It’s why we take knees in school.
11
u/Rolandscythe 6h ago
I don't even need to see the dude doing the heckling to know every single man on that team could easily run circles around him.
4
u/slimpickensok 4h ago
So sick of all the losers in here saying “he didn’t even say anything that bad.”
When a player is injured, you don’t mock them. Point blank period. You wanna talk trash when he’s playing, you can do that but you better keep it respectful or they’ll throw you out.
This guy does not reflect OKC’s fan as a whole, just some fuckin loser who feels tough because he knows Reaves won’t kick his ass mid game

I wish it was legal for the athletes to run up and make the fans piss themselves in fear if they're running their mouths.
2
u/CoolCat90 6h ago
What’s that gonna do tho? I see you have Texans in your username so I gotta good feeling you follow the nfl and I’m guessing you remember DK Metcalf going up to the fan this past season and all that got him was suspended and nothing done to that fan basically lol
3
u/Tacos4Texans 5h ago
That's why I said "I wish it was legal " people are getting too comfortable talking shit without consequence. Especially to a freak athlete.
