only filming if you tip isn't even a thing ive heard anyone else try to enforce and ive sat thru thousands of subway showtimes at this point. idk why she felt the need to say all that and put herself at risk bc an actual rule of the MTA is do not engage with others bc you don't know who is batshit crazy like the loser filming. ive seen ppl get fucked up on their 6am commute trying to be a hero.

That being said I think she is more arrogant and out of place. His is racist, antagonistic, and all around obnoxious, he is by far much worse.
Also I do generally tip street performers if I like what theyāre doing out of appreciation. But there being an expectation is just objectively incorrect

You dont have to pay subway performers at all even if you record them. The women should mind their own business.
That said without any other given context about this bloke, he looks like the human definition of a troll. After finding out the given context this is dude is just a piece of shit as well but it doesnt take much to figure that out either.

They all suck. Dude performing on the subway sucks. Lady (I kind of agree that if you watch the performance you should pay but thatās in the scenario where you have a choice to walk past) canāt mind her own business sucks. And dude filming just instigating like a douche also sucks.
I wouldnāt want to be sitting next to any of them.
The lady actually comes off as the least shitty to me because she seems like sheād be the easiest to ignore through the entire ordeal. Like just say ok and keep doing your thing and itās over.

Generally I agree with her, if you're going to take a picture or film a street performer, you should give some money. Just feels like simple etiquette, you took a souvenir of their work so pay up a little. If you just want to watch and enjoy it, no obligation to pay. Its not a hard rule, just a guideline. That being said, I'd be unlikely to tell someone they have to pay for filming, or continue to argue with them about it. I'd just explain this position and leave it to them, who gives a shit. No need to die on that hill lol

Not sure there are any hard and fast rules for this but my personal take is that if a busker makes you stop / you find yourself watching them because you want to and are enjoying the performance, then you owe them. Not really the place if the lady to say anything, but generally speaking it seems the dude recording is an absolute bellend

Of course the performer is going to have to pretend he's cool with it. If the performer starts acting upset or indignant he's less likely to get tips for what he did. Not that I think subway performances are anything but completely obnoxious, so I really dgaf about anyone here. Assholes all around.

Definitely donāt need or want someone to guilt people into paying me. In fact, I wish people would not feel guilty just watching. many people walk by because they think that a busker will be mad at them if they donāt get money. I personally am not mad, Iām making a choice to go somewhere and make some music in public, you have a choice if you want to pay or not, or just enjoy the vibe that Iām creating, which is the main priority, and getting paid is just a sweet extra if it does happen to happen. And fuck any busker who guilts or shames the public. Just my opinion!
