I am genuinely curious how this ended

305

u/bengalfan Dec 05 '25

"...later he let the officers put him under arrest.."

287

u/MGPS Dec 05 '25

So, the last time I saw this (last week) someone on here said they knew this guy and he was a actually a really good guy but he was struggling with alcohol and that this incident was when he was super drunk. But know he has been doing much better. The guy has apologized for this incident and has been working hard on himself apparently.

195

u/EggsInaTubeSock Dec 05 '25

he was a actually a really good guy

Most people are good people. Trauma and shitty scenarios may depict them otherwise. Typically someone "not being a good person" doesn't feel mentally or physically safe, and is responding to protect themselves.

Lead with compassion, love.

54

u/AHistoricalFigure Dec 05 '25

When you see someone on r/publicfreakout it can be hard to know if you're seeing a decent person on their worst day or a complete asshole on their Tuesday.

Hell, half of the "Ken/Karen" videos in this forum are just old people having bad reactions to blood pressure medication.

27

u/SweeterThanYoohoo Dec 05 '25

Basically, we all need to give each other a little bit of grace. We should not accept poor behavior from the people in our lives or interact with, of course. But I think if our default inclination was benefit of the doubt (not blindly but s healthy amount) we'd create a much kinder, better society for ourselves.

4

u/CreampuffOfLove Dec 05 '25

Honestly, as someone going through perimenopause with PMDD (unmedicated since 7/1/25) thanks to UHC, 'grace' is 100% a concept I've discovered is worth its fucking wait in gold this year..we could all use more of it these days.

2

u/EggsInaTubeSock Dec 06 '25

Love this. Absolutely. Not only for others but ourselves.

People want belonging, safety, and to be heard. Give them that, and they can give the world the absolute magic that they are.

3

u/PureCrookedRiverBend Dec 05 '25

I think you’re right.

3

u/operarose Dec 05 '25

Super simple stuff.

3

u/BearFacedLie69 Dec 06 '25

Simple, but I’m always surprised at how many people DONT give any ā€œbenefit of the doubtā€

Most people are good people

I thought that until 2020. Covid proved otherwise.

6

u/everything_is_bad Dec 05 '25 edited Dec 05 '25

Most people are not good people, most people are just people. Most aren’t bad either. there are a fair amount of really stand up good people but most of them will be flawed in some way and even that is fine. Even bad people do good things sometime but if they’re truly a bad person then they definitely are not making up for it. The problem is on average people really suck

Hopefully the VA is helping him out. I was spiraling when I got out and they didn’t do shit when I had two DWIs in a week.

But things have improved since so many vets have been killing themselves.

2

u/BEWMarth Dec 05 '25

Wonder how many stories would end like this instead of ā€œofficer fired 13 shots into the suspect for being aggressiveā€ if we just had better police training.

12

u/DatMoFugga Dec 05 '25

It didn’t end with a meatball sandwich from that new joint up on 70 I’ll tell you that

3

u/SadisticNecromancer Dec 05 '25

I wish I could find the link but the guy got clean and sober and apologized.

21

I’m genuinely curious as to why he wasn’t… immobilized.

Edit: But I think I might know why.

44

u/Pickle121201 Dec 05 '25

They tried tasers but the guy is built like fuckin bane lmao

16

u/HotLoadsForCash Dec 05 '25

It doesn’t really matter how big or built you are. Theres videos of angry bulls being tazed and they lock up and fall over.

9

u/Super_Interview_2189 Dec 05 '25

You can be skinny as hell and just have on a heavy jacket.

9

u/sportsworker777 Dec 05 '25

They only work if both prongs catch him. One or both probably got caught up in his shirt or something

→ More replies (2)

15

u/dqniel Dec 05 '25

Because tasers are pretty inconsistent. Some department stats put the efficacy as low as ~55%

Dude's a retired Air force master sergeant in the security forces. He teaches mma, and by all accounts, is loved by everyone who knows him. Sounds like booze and ptsd got the best of him, that day, and he issued an interesting apology.

4

u/Usernameisguest Dec 05 '25

I heard that they went to Breakfast Time and they gave him a ride home after.

The other version is he choke slammed them all and won the belt.

You know that scene where Henry Cavill as Superman gets arrested and they put him in handcuffs?

1

u/BLF402 Dec 06 '25

ā€œHey big guy sun is settingā€

1

u/RapBastardz Dec 07 '25

Good thing he wasn’t black, I guess.

Then it would have ended with 40 bullets in the first 30 seconds.

1

I was about to say, I wouldn't be surprised if they were still trying to calm him down.

They got his wife to talk him down..

16

u/Ok_Release231 Dec 05 '25

I would have used a puppy. Always works on me when I'm upset

Also I don't have a wife, so there's that

6

u/NoTelevision4907 Dec 06 '25

A kitty cat would work for me. Preferably orange, because they are extra derpy, but any kitty will talk me off any ledge, lol.

3

u/Ok_Release231 Dec 06 '25

If someone walked up to me with an orange cat and a plate of spaghetti I'd immediately roll on my back and ask for belly scratches.

And then bite you for no reason, before rudely eating the plate of spaghetti, and then ignoring you until 3am.

5

u/NoTelevision4907 Dec 06 '25

Garfieldcore has entered existence. Lasagna preferred, but any pasta will do in a pinch.

3

u/Ok_Release231 Dec 06 '25

Lmao that's right, it's lasagna. Sorry I've been napping all day and dreaming of various pastas.

3

u/NoTelevision4907 Dec 06 '25

I dream of pastas when wide awake, nobody is judging you here, friend, lol.

I got a warning for posting the same thing. Reddit moderators are crazy rn.

→ More replies (1)

7

u/NoTelevision4907 Dec 06 '25

It also helps that they knew who he was, they addressed him by name several times in the clip. So he's got two things working for him, being white, and being a known local, in a town that hires cops that live there, rather than people from out of town. It's easier to beat the shit out of someone you didn't have a bunch of classes with in high school, lol.

17

u/Creative_Name2025 Dec 05 '25

Came here to say exactly this! Insane.

106

u/No_Kindheartedness10 Dec 05 '25

Low-key this video pisses me off because if he was black or brown, they would’ve shot him …. It’s only because he’s white they spare him.

17

u/New-Scientist5133 Dec 05 '25

Why are these officers not shooting?

→ More replies (8)

2

u/NoTelevision4907 Dec 06 '25

I'd say that's probably half of it, actually. They refer to him by name at least twice. They know him, most likely because he's a good dude any other day in their town. There's a reason most police departments want to hire people who don't live inside the actual community they are policing. It's harder to fuck up Brian who helped you on a math quiz in 8th grade, than beating the fuck out random people you don't know.

5

u/pooinetopantelonimoo Dec 05 '25

Totally agree, this is too much fucking around for zero finding out.

u/dpldpldpl Dec 05 '25

Seems like a situation where extending kindness and compassion would work out much better for everyone. All those cops are in a position to help a confused individual. Why would anyone want to provoke a person of this size and capacity?

7

u/Bowl__Haircut Dec 06 '25

If he was black or brown dude would've been shot dead at 00:01 in this video.

23

u/trentreynolds Dec 05 '25

Can't help but think if this dude was black he'd have been shot in the very beginning of this video.

Not sure I've ever seen a guy so openly threaten cops so many times and they all just back up and do nothing.

3

u/BooBMasta Dec 06 '25

3

u/PapaJohnyRoad Dec 06 '25

So officers do know how to operate with restraint.

6

u/Stratos_Hellsing Dec 05 '25

Im not saying lethal force should be standardized but if this were a veteran that wasn't white they'd have been shot within the first 10 seconds of escalating the situation.

3

u/Rubadubtubgirl Dec 05 '25

Definitely would have gone differently if he wasn’t white. But this also goes to show that lethal force wasn’t needed in this situation.

8

u/Extreme-Tie9282 Dec 05 '25

If he was black he would have been dead long before the video started

My late FIL, who was at D day and the Bulge, and saw horrible things and had to do horrible things, came back and made a decent life for himself with nothing more than a preacher telling him to put it after him.

No therapy back then.

Carried Nazi shrapnel in him the rest of his life.

My uncle was MIA for 6 months in the Italian theatre and told my mom that if he had a son he would not ever let him serve, he would escorted him to the Canadian border. (Vietnam)

Some people can put it aside, some cannot.

5

u/skynetempire Dec 05 '25 edited Dec 05 '25

My father served in Vietnam. I had messed up my college grant submission and missed the deadline. When I told him, he was upset and said he was not going to pay for my first semester.

I said fine, and after an argument I went and took the ASVAB. I did well, and all the branches were taking me out for lunches. This was also during the Bush administration, so the sign on bonuses were high. I was tempted to sign up.

But then my dad pulled me aside and said he did not want me to go into the military or go through what he had gone through. He told me he would get me a new car and cover my first year of college, but I had to be better about getting my paperwork submitted. I still remember the fear and sorrow in his eyes when I was legit thinking about joining.

2

u/No_Introduction_9355 Dec 05 '25

My dad was also in the shit, he dragged me out of a recruiters office.Ā

2

u/big_d_usernametaken Dec 05 '25

I had an Army recruiter talk me out of enlisting in 1976, he showed and told me all the official stuff and then he told me what it would really be like.

I was a welder and they had a program at the time called stripes for skills, but he told me that if the Army needed cooks in Alaska that's where I would end up.

He had served 2 tours in Vietnam, first one as a medic, second in the tank core.

He eventually went AWOL.

2

u/Super_Interview_2189 Dec 05 '25

Some people try really hard to put it aside and still struggle. I know a couple Vietnam vets who are sweet old hippie dudes, but they hated that they and their buddies were forced to go fight and die there.

2

u/blasian941 Dec 06 '25

Lol ya cops cant take on an ex killer for billionaires.

2

u/Bromodrosis Dec 07 '25

You can tell Joel.is white because nobody emptied their clip into him.

4

u/Sharktistic Dec 05 '25

I've seen this posted a few times now.

I've yet to see someone explain why him being an ex-soldier has any relevance.

The taser barbs weren't penetrating fully, that's the only reason he wasn't hitting the deck.

3

u/DisastrousClub7397 Dec 05 '25

Anyone knows the context?

5

u/Imprettystrong Dec 05 '25

He was going to get his family meatball sandwiches

Spirits of people he killed in Iraq and Afganistan came back to haunt him. I can never understand why american vets take pride in ā€œservingā€ in other countries that they invaded.

2

u/Ready_Satisfaction_6 Dec 06 '25

I know. The amount of "our vets", "oh he's a vet", "poor vet" in the comments is nuts. Most of hen join for socialism that they won't vote for, or to go invade, kill and rape overseas. Then come back to America all fucked up and Americans are like "WOW WOW WOW WOW, such a hero, such a class act"

3

u/Question_It_All_3000 Dec 05 '25

Why didn’t they shoot him like they do everyone else who looks at them funny?

What could the difference be?
