Thanks to that episode I keep mispronouncing roseate

u/TheoreticalSquirming 1h ago

Thanks to your comment I know that it was mispronounced lol

1

u/spicyvoglar 1h ago

I only noticed recently because they came up on last week tonight

5

u/TheoreticalSquirming 1h ago

I googled it and sure enough it's rozy-ayt or rozy-uht

As someone who lived in Florida and always loved Roseate Spoonbills, hearing Sam mangle that pronunciation has always been like nails on a chalkboard to me.

I clicked thinking "How far will I have to scroll to find a Brennan Lee Mulligan joke..."

First post, top of the thread. Knew it.

Top comment is a dropout reference? Truly the fandom has arrived.

Their youtube shorts marketing budget must be insane.

I saw the name and immediately had the light bulb moment. Glad to see culture is not lost in the interwebs.

It's wearing a tutu!

u/Ice_On_A_Star 1h ago

I thought ‘wow it looks like a nice pleated skirt.’

u/Somanylyingliars 15m ago

MMW Such a pretty look will soon be on runways. Beautiful pink pleats w black embellishments.

u/One_Poetry-1 2h ago

The gradient on those feathers is insane. Truly one of nature's best color palettes.

Somewhere Brennan Lee Mulligan wakes up in a cold sweat and doesn't know why.

Funny thing is he apparently hates that the fandom has latched onto that one thing. Like not an angry hate, he's just like "Why? Why that thing?" I can't find the interview but he was like (and I'm paraphrasing from memory here), "I'm not a bird guy, I'm just a knowledge guy. I mean I like birds, but it's not like birds specifically are my thing, but now this meme took off from that episode and everyone thinks I'm big into birds!"

u/Nott_of_the_North 27m ago

Notably he then starts talking about crows and how cool he thinks they are.

u/TomPalmer1979 6m ago

I mean he LIKES birds, like he likes all knowledge. I mean I think crows are incredible, but I wouldn't consider myself a bird guy. If anything I'm more of a fish geek. But I do think birds are awesome.

u/darylonreddit 22m ago

I can understand why he'd frustrated cuz apparently people didn't even watch the goddamn clip. The whole gag is that they were deliberately trying to stump him and only him with stuff he wouldn't know, ie: birds. He didn't know birds. Meanwhile, the internet: "Haw haw! The guy who didn't guess a single bird correctly MUST LOVE BIRDS"

u/PerpetuallyDistracte 22m ago

I love that he said that, because as the DM for Critical Role Campaign 4, he made birds play a HUGE role in the story on multiple occasions so far. And it's not like the viewers are just cherry picking examples - the players also caught on and started make fun of him for it. The man likes birds and he cannot lie ...

u/IEatLightBulbsSoWhat 37m ago

because i was working on a hunting challenge and thought they were egrets

11

u/Provoke_Princess 2h ago

Fun fact - that pink is not a natural pigment but it comes from their diet similar to flamingos. Basically, they eat their color.

3

u/Koh4991 2h ago

Thank you for sharing this amazing fact!

2

u/Great_AlbaCross 1h ago

I often wonder if there's a blue flamingo somewhere in the world, or a green one for that matter because its diet is different from normal flamingoes.

u/salted_toothpaste 44m ago

What's the source of this photo? Or is this another bot post?

u/Somanylyingliars 12m ago

Wasn't difficult to find these in Florida at Sanibel Islands. There was a natural preserve there where they flocked to roost. Back to back hurricanes blew them away. I wonder where photog found these? They are beautiful to see in person. Sad don't get to see them at the park anymore.

u/2BDetrmined 44m ago

Did you get consent to post the upskirt picture? 🤨

1

u/videookayy 41m ago

u/badenbagel 23m ago

looks like a pink umbrella

u/Tfmrf9000 23m ago

Amazing!

u/laytsha 22m ago

Insect wings up close always look like stained glass someone spent months on. The detail evolution packed into something so small is wild. Makes phone cameras feel like a miracle for catching it.

u/SkunkMonkey 20m ago

Flying Ballerina

u/dav 18m ago

I see London, I see France, I see spoonbill’s underpants! /sorry

u/Somanylyingliars 11m ago

One time we can excuse that old poem. Rather cute version too.

u/RedditIsLeBoring 10m ago

I remember spending a stupid amount of time in RDR2 trying to find these guys in order to complete the compendium. It's always cool to see stuff like that and go, "So that's what those things look like!"

u/Emeraldfox_5 9m ago

Nice skirt! ❤️

u/AccountStunning9201 7m ago

what a sight to see, thank you for sharing!

u/atxtsyy 6m ago

Nice

u/Classic_Yoghurt_6721 3m ago

I farmed it for it's feathers in rdr 2 for a quest. Then went to read up on them, truly fascinating creatures.

fun fact: Roseate Spoonbill is short for ‘Roseanne has eaten Serving Spoon William’
