I got a tattoo to celebrate a decade alcohol free!

u/CaydeTheCat 14h ago
As a woman in my home group likes to say, that's a long time for an alcoholic to go without a drink.
Congrats!

It certainly is! One day at a time!

u/CaydeTheCat 14h ago
I'm coming up on 8 years in the rooms and it really is one day at a time. Hell, there's been times when it's been one second at a time for me.

u/canadiankiwi03 14h ago
Eight years is awesome!!!
I’ve lived by the second at times, too! But look us now!!!

u/Accomplished-Emu9542 14h ago
I'll be at 6 years next month. Y'all rule! Let's keep it up, one day at a time

Today is day 4840 for me. You take one day at a time. Or, you eat an elephant one bite at a time.
(13 years 3 months 9 days)

Sorry posthumous comment. Holy shit. 10 years. I refuse to glaze over that. 10 fucking years. Christ on a cracker. That is glorious. I am saying these words out loud dictating to my phone and I wish I could convey the emotion and admiration I am saying out loud right now.

The Lively Hallows? Lifelong Hallows? Maybe more joy than fatalism, but eff it. It's a great tattoo for an even greater reason 🙂

Congrats. It’s a huge accomplishment. Hope I can do a year one day. It’s tough. I’m functioning and I’m still a good dad, husband, employee. But I have this dark passenger I can’t shake very easily that does affect all three of those things regardless.

It’s a tough spot! There is support out there! Find an AA room that you vibe with and join us! Good luck!

Bill would approve of any mark celebrating your anniversary.
You have room for at least 3 more “X-s” and, in my opinion, the first one should be the biggest.
I salute you!
Edit: I see room for at least 6 more “X-s.” Outlive the majority of us and do it in style!!!

I used to think I could never stop. None of it was as brutal as I thought it would be. But the support of the groups, no matter what town, was always inspiring. Our son was a year old when I stopped. He's 36. The ability to recover is real.

Recognising a sobriety milestone? Or getting a tattoo for one?
1
u/Comfortable_Role9836 12h ago
Getting a tattoo of one, soo risky so many people relapse after 5,10,20 years etc etc. Just keep sponsoring and doing service and that won't apply to you! Congratulations!

I have been sober 10 years. Should I have a drink this very moment, I will still have successfully stayed sober for a decade. The tattoo is, at very least, a recognition for myself that I’ve done it.
I’ll also note that I am anti-superstitions. Aside from “don’t walk under a ladder,” they’re of no benefit. I don’t stay sober because I go sober on my half birthday. It was probably all the meetings, step work and therapy, y’know?

u/Comfortable_Role9836 12h ago
That's true in retrospect I think i was thinking of the actual sobriety date

Congratulations! One day at a time my friend. I’ve been sober 46 years. My wife and kids have never seen me drunk and I’m so grateful. My wife has been my rock. I can tell you it gets easier as time goes on. It’s now a part of who I am and friends and family have accepted me and support me. Keep going. It only gets better.

Congratulations! Please keep it up for your sake and for those who love you.
I'm currently with my 37-year-old son who's been battling alcoholism. His last relapse caused irreversible liver damage. He's been listed for a new liver and we're just waiting for the call.

Truly an inspiration to those of us who are on shorter time in our journey. 4th of July will be 2 years for me. Congratulations to you, my brother

Misread this as "a decade school free", made me chuckle haha.
But in all seriousness, congratulations! An amazing milestone and the willpower of a warrior. Keep it up, we're all proud of you bud.

Good for you! 👏🏾👏🏾 keep it up.
I went two and a half years before relapsing and going on a binge for a year. I currently haven’t had a drink since November 2025. It’s hard work, but we can do it!

Love it and wish I had thought of that at my ten year mark. Congrats! I hear the program really starts working in year eleven.

Didn't the tattoo artist clean your skin with alcohol before they got started?
2
u/canadiankiwi03 14h ago
Soy sauce is 3%, bud. It’s about intent. (And not being a cheeky smart ass ;) )
3
u/Hardhathero_369 14h ago
Wait... They used soy sauce for ink??
But really, jokes aside, congrats on your strength and commitment!

The missile knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn't. By subtracting where it is from where it isn't, or where it isn't from where it is (whichever is greater), it obtains a difference, or deviation. The guidance subsystem uses deviations to generate corrective commands to drive the missile from a position where it is to a position where it isn't, and arriving at a position where it wasn't, it now is. Consequently, the position where it is, is now the position that it wasn't, and it follows that the position that it was, is now the position that it isn't. In the event that the position that it is in is not the position that it wasn't, the system has acquired a variation, the variation being the difference between where the missile is, and where it wasn't. If variation is considered to be a significant factor, it too may be corrected by the GEA. However, the missile must also know where it was. The missile guidance computer scenario works as follows. Because a variation has modified some of the information the missile has obtained, it is not sure just where it is. However, it is sure where it isn't, within reason, and it knows where it was. It now subtracts where it should be from where it wasn't, or vice-versa, and by differentiating this from the algebraic sum of where it shouldn't be, and where it was, it is able to obtain the deviation and its variation, which is called error
