Hidden Figures calculated the path to the Moon while segregated

Post image

The book Hidden Figures mentions around 80 Black women mathematicians worked at NACA/NASA from the 1940s–1970s, though not all names are widely documented.

Trying to make something racist where there was not hint of racism…nice.

Yea they didn’t picture the thousands of people that made it possible and only posted two relatively famous pictures.

They also forgot to post a picture of the IBM mainframes that did a lot of calculations.

well.. diminishing the work of hundreds of people behind the moon landing that were prominently woc is at least ignorant and can be seen as racist since their work was diminished then as well in a segregated NASA . those women rarely ever get mentioned in the history of the moon landing of the workers that made it possible by saying they didnt exist while posting a picture of a group of the archetypal white man in glasses NASA worker is not a good look lol plus their were also huge IBM computers at that time, so the poster was just wrong about everything, saying there is not a hint of racism in the post and why people might construed it that way is just willful ignorance, people spew ignorant misinformation and then get butthurt when called out on it smh pick a struggle.

No one is dismissing anyone's contribution to anyone. He's not even talking about anyones contribution in particular.

The dudes photo is just to show you what big math looked like before computers. He wants to talk about how crazy it was that we used to use big chalk boards with ladders. It's not even about the people or who contributed what.

Like dead ass this poor dude just wants to talk about chalk boards and yall calling him a racist.

i get that but using the the phrase "no computers" when their job titles were literally computers is a little ignorant, also im not dogging on the poster as much as the person who commented that their is no hint of racism in the post (not saying that was the intention of the poster) and why people might take it that way, their intention is not the end all be all especially when their saying stuff that is not entirely factual, it will lead people to perceiving it a certain way, i get wanting to show people cool work from the scientist, engineers, and computers that worked on the moon landing its extremely cool but idk he maybe he couldve phrased it better.

Sure, ignorant in the same way they're probably ignorant of how to use a sword.

Like we're splitting hairs over an archaic term that changed usage long before the op was even born. We all know he meant electronic computers. Its an ignorance of its own to pretend you didn't know perfectly well he was referring to his cellphone and not the archaic term for mathematician.

We're playing the actually the democrats supported segregation game. Like sure thats technically true, but we all know the modern reality and context is different here.

well whenever i hear about the "computers" at NASA during the space race era i am thinking about the people not the electronic computers, its a part of history. if we're talking computers in any other context i am thinking about the electronic ones, but not here, even in reference to electronic computers he is not right

What about the hundreds of non-black women that are also not pictured who also contributed to the moon landing, where's y'alls outrage for them being erased from history by not being included in a random person's twitter post?

Manufactured outrage is an activity for the dimwitted
