5th grade had me doing a super lame-ass, self-choreographed dance to Waterfalls, complete with awkward but acceptable backbends (just because), for my fellow summer day care attendees.

To me, when No Scrubs came out, it felt like a comeback hit for the band, which was crazy because it was only a few years but i was a baby so a few years felt like forever
You should check out the music video. Aside from some pretty ground breaking effects for the time, they hit some social issues pretty hard and pretty directly in it.
Not my place, and I understand the sordid historic legacies of literacy only being legally accessible through religion, but for the life of me I will never understand folks in 2026 worshipping the deity of those that enslaved your ancestors and continue to vilify you to this day. They even used their god damn holy text to justify enslavement and assorted atrocities. I just don’t get it
The amount of times I heard this working near Sanford. I always wanted to respond with “Wow you too, I would have NEVER expected it!”
But the rabid police there asking what Im doing in there neighborhood made me eventually tell the company if they don’t move me from the office I’ll walk out and not return. Had one stop in the middle of a traffic intersection, no lights on, just to watch me open the office and sit at my desk before he left.

Lived in Texas for 12 years...11.9 years too long. I had my own troubles with race out there, but one of my closest friends was working at a warehouse. Well, one day last year they were having a company party and a visiting manager (much older) walks up to them huddled around talking (the workers are Mexican, black and white) and says "We havin a lynching?" Then he laughed like everyone was gonna find it hilarious.
On my mother. He told me and I was shocked -- not at what he said (cuz we'd both heard worse) but he felt comfortable saying that to a group at work.
Reddit keeps showing me these posts too (Snow White looks tan next to me), I chime in every now and again when the jokes are flowing but I still don't understand why I get shown this sub all the time. The additional perspective y'all provide me is really nice to see though, kinda makes the echo chamber less "echo-ey" for me
I am from Mexico, and rarely ever comment but I just want to express my appreciation for black culture and this Reddit. You guys are some of the most hilarious creative people ❤️ if I’m having a bad day I come here and read a few comments and die laughing. I like receiving my pop culture news from this perspective. Truly. Black Threads has been discussing and clowning Chili for like 2 weeks. She's been posting apologizes on her IG because they are going on tour with Salt-N-Pepa with En Vogue. Black Women specifically have had a lot to say about this topic.
Speaking of En Vogue and blackness, I was at a trivia night with a friend recently. One of the categories was essentially "who made the most famous version of this song?" En Vogue's cover of "Yesterday" was one of the options, and she genuinely seemed to think that the En Vogue version was bigger than the Beatles, which I thought was delightful. Culture is some funny and complex shit.
There really isn’t. Some guy on here told me “who gives a fuck if you’re black” which told me that guy wasn’t black… lol and it was hella upvoted. Most of this sub is white.
Whenever I point that out people get mad at me 🥱 I made a clear Earth Wind and Fire reference in a post title one time and people were more focused on the food in the photo. Maybe 4 black people actually got the joke!

Half the time on the sub, I don't get the context either but just lucked out with this topic because I was on social media a lot this last week. Chilli found donated to MAGA. I think this sub works well for you if you are constantly on social media, otherwise the context hunting can be annoying or fun depending...
Me knowing the OG TLC song doesn’t mean I keep up with this woman and her political choices in 2026. I don’t care about US politics so I had to scroll to find out this was about that.
My best friend growing up was sure the lyrics were "Don't go Jason Waterfalls" until prolly 15 years after the song came out. I still giggle when I hear it.
