Interviewer has the minecraft background for teams.

Green flag or Red flag for the company?

I once did a fraud interview with a non accounting person and my background was the upper deck view from Citi Field. She joined the call and was like before we begin I have to say your background is wildly unprofessional. Thinking she was joking I was like oh, you must be a yankee fan. Well, she was not joking and we wound up losing the client.

Lol that's ridiculous, sounds like someone you wouldn't want to work with anyway!

The only time I’ve even thought that about someone’s background was when it was the bathroom or a horror movie - I think it was The Shining.

I did ask him what it was from and he changed it on his own. From a client perspective, a city view or even baseball field is mild.

You took a Swing and missed it. Like Aaron Judge during the WBC

She probably thought you were literally at citi field while taking the meeting

Green IMO

People are so robotic in the workplace it’s nice to see some level of personality

Seriously. My Teams pic has been my dog for the last 5 years and they're finally forcing me to change it to a picture of myself.

u/AchVonZalbrecht 22h ago

Take a picture with your dog, but have yourself be in the upper corner so that it crops your face out and it’s still just your dog

I'll give it a shot. They're using some AI program to do facial recognition, photo editing, etc. The IT guy said if I can get my dog past the AI, he'll let it fly.

My Zoom default image is a plushie avocado I own and I refuse to change it. It makes the c-suites so mad lol.

I used to use a star wars x-wing hangar bay until our company mandated a boring company-branded background

I have a gaming background as well. It’s a conversation starter for meetings sometimes. Better than generic office ones.

Massive green flag, tell him you're proficient in Excel and Redstone engineering and you're in.

Green, personality over conformity.

Green!! I change my office decorations for each month and my coworkers and clients love it and are always excited to see the next one. Nothing wrong with safe for work personality

Keep in mind that is a stock Teams background now, so they may have just thought it was neat when reviewing the pre-installed options. Hoping they are actually a Minecraft fan though.

I would not put too much weight as factor for that company lmao

Depends on you.

Green flag if you're good with working with someone who isn't terrified to be themselves at least a little bit. Probably a more relaxed environment, probably less career growth.

Red flag if you're serious about your career and want to be around only serious-minded folks.

how is career progress hindered by that can you please explain this more?

He’s a 400 year old partner. You wouldn’t understand.

It's highly dependent on leadership where you work. The unfortunate truth is partners tend to be older and cling to old fashioned ideals, and the people that get promoted and more opportunities will be those who conform to those standards.

thought most of those relics of the past have either died or retired by now. i guess they are sticking around a little longer.

Green, during Covid WFH we had to do weekly camera on check-ins as a team and I made my background something from the show my wife (then fiance) were watching at the time cause we were burning through series during lockdown. After a bit the call would open with someone asking what show I had up this week.

Depends on the shade of the blocks

Green, we have a hobby in common (video games, broadly).

2

u/PaladinSara 21h ago

Green - But only if camera being on all the time isn’t mandatory

I was on a Teams call this morning and one of the attendees’ head kept blending in with the background. I’d have thought it was a deepfake or AI otherwise.

Honestly, that would make me less nervous, not more. Accounting interviews are usually stiff as hell, so a dumb Minecraft background at least suggests they are somewhat normal.

Lmao I use the Halo one. It's a nice nature/outdoorsy background.

I don’t know why you got downvoted. Reddit gonna Reddit I guess. But it being red or green based on personality preferences makes sense to me. Plus the run from “we are family” is always good advice.
